The Smart Cat Box™ litter system is so unique that it is patented in both the United States and Canada. It is manufactured in California of extremely durable polymer material. There are three basic component to the system. The top box has a slotted floor to hold non-absorbent cat litter and to allow urine to drain through.. The bottom box has a slanted floor and drain allowing urine to flow directly into a removable covered urine collection reservoir for easy collection and disposal. The box measures 20"L x 15 1/2"W x 7 1/2"H. The litter tray is 5" deep without the optional sidewalls.
The Smart Cat Box™ has no mechanical or electrical parts. Only routine cleaning maintenance is needed.
Litter may be rinsed with plain water or with a very dilute bleach solution (1 tbsp. bleach to 1 qt. of water). Do not use soap products on the litter as this will breakdown the protective oils in the litter. The litter may be removed to be rinsed or may be rinsed directly in the box. Allow the litter to dry before using it again.
The urine reservoir and the box itself should be cleaned periodically, just like any litter box. Urine residue will eventually build up on the box and cause odor, so if you notice an odor, clean the box first. If the odor persists, clean the litter. The litter will last 4-8 weeks with typical use before it begins to lose it moisture repelling properties. If your litter smells after cleaning, it is time for a replacement bag of litter.
The majority of cats take to their new litter box quickly. If your cat seems reluctant to use the box, put the old box next to your new box for a few days. Transfer some used litter from the old box to the new box. You may even have to confine your cat in a room with the box for some time before she consents to use the new box. We all know cats are strong-willed, so be patient!
If you continue to have problems, you may find more information about litter box use on the FelineDiabetes.com web site.
