OH Rory was doing great then he started acting weird.. freaking out on the hunt for food so I put a can of fancy feast seafood pate down and he woofed it back like he wasnt even breathing !!! I let him finish before giving him more and it was the same woofing it back.. then a 3rd time the same so I then checked his blood and it read 2 aka 38!! so I just gave him some maple syrup and am waiting for enough time to pass to check him again..

he was just out on the deck and as soon as he saw me he ran in the house at the testing spot.. its like he knows.. going to check him now its been 30 mins

he is up to 47.. then he started hissing and spitting at me but not scratching or biting.. just feeling different maybe

Maybe a little bit more syrup with his food. We'd like him above 50, but nice to see that amount of a rise.

He might be sensing your stress. You're doing great. No worries. Give him a treat and a brushing if he likes it. Tiki loves the brush so I distract him with it when he drops with his numbers and I have to continually poke him.

Test again 30 minutes after he eats.

I agree with Tonya on sensing the stress. I know the same happens here.

he dropped back to 38 again :( I tested him with the syrup.. Im going to try honey next.. maybe it has a higher glycemic

Are you giving him high carb gravy with that syrup or honey?

Do you have any high carb food? I was told the high carb food or gravy parts if you just give him that have a longer lasting boost to the BG's than syrup/karo etc. I have a box of gravy FF's for steep drops.

How much syrup did you give him? You can also rub syrup on his gums. Don't overfeed with the wet food, just a teaspoon at a time, you want to keep him hungry.

On my last dance into the 30's (oh what fun!) I got away with giving him a medium carb (roasted chicken FF) and that worked pretty well too.

no I was giving him the low carb and I had not yet tested him I just noticed him woofing back old carb free food at first so I gave him what was open fast.. the fancy feast chicken pate.. I think its Low carb.. I will give him some sliced with gravy now

Try to just give him the gravy - too much food and he will get full and will stop eating. Not what you need when he is dropping.

I gave him about 1/4 tsp of maple syrup 2 times.. someone wanted to know how much.. just waiting a few more minutes.. he just licked all the gravy off the sliced stuff and left the meat

That's the important stuff so he did great! Now comes time for the patience pants. The clock never ticks slower than when their numbers drop and all you can do is wait...

Yay!!! Baby steps, but I bet you are already breathing more easily!!! :lol: I just kept checking every 30 mins until I felt he was in a steady climb or I passed out from exhaustion (being an East coaster and all...). Tiki always does his crazy drops after midnight.

Nice to see that 50's. But YUCK on that 49. Time for a bit more syrup mixed with gravy. I'm up for a while yet so will be up for your next test.

A note about reductions. Normally we don't reduce if the low number is close to a previous reduction, but you've had to work hard tonight to get and keep Rory up. I always think that numbers in the 30's mean they are trying to tell us something. I'd recommend going to 1.75U tomorrow morning. You can always go back up if it doesn't hold.

he wont eat, he is full and pissed at me.. I had to pry his mouth open to give him some honey.. a big finger full, about 1/4 tsp of creamed honey

Any chance he eat some low or medium carb food? Unfortunately at this number you should test again in 30 minutes. But, he should be getting at or past nadir.

he still wont eat but he only went up slightly.. I dont think he will drop much like he did earlier tonight.. I will stay up with him and keep testing..
