Woke up at 3am with this weird noise in my left ear.. Bailey had managed to somehow squish himself between me and my DH - there was no room I am telling you.. and was purring loudly. I moved over to give him a little more space but then of course I was awake so thought i would go to the washroom. Came back from the washroom and he was sprawled in my spot. i moved him to get into bed but that wasnt good enough and he left... cats!

keeping a close eye on him today with this new dose..

Wink purrs so loudly in the mornings too. He is usually down by my calves but sounds like a motorcycle. Even while I'm wearing earplugs, he is so loud. I haven't even touched him or talked to him. He just starts purring his heart out. This is new this past month. I don't want it to ever stop.

Very Cute!

I am thinking Baileys ear infection might be back - that one ear is looking dirty.. am going to start the meds again.. would explain the high BG.

Re: 6/2 Bailey PMPS 124 +2 38

How much did you give? It does take Syrup a bit to get into the system. Give him a little more and recheck in another 10 mins to see if he's up from the first one yet.

Re: 6/2 Bailey PMPS 124 +2 38

Two drops on the gums? I did that last measure three times since he didnt bleed well and got anywhere between 36 and 50.

Re: 6/2 Bailey PMPS 124 +2 38

Can you put a couple drops in his food and have him eat? Even a couple tsp of gravy.

He's acting ok?

Re: 6/2 Bailey PMPS 124 +2 38

frigging cant believe it really. Thank god I gave 2 drops tonite instead of his 0.1Iu that I started him on this morning. Thats it. No more dose increases for him. he can stay yellow and blue.

I am having to fight off Tiggy who gets excited when he sees the syrup come out.

Re: 6/2 Bailey PMPS 124 +2 38

Oh its going to be a long night isnt it?

You know I watch you sit with people all the time through this and sometimes I see them drop off and go to sleep. No idea how they do that - I am way too freaked and wired for that.

When are you heading off to sleep?

Re: 6/2 Bailey PMPS 124 +2 38 +3 67

67 thank goodness. Its been 10mins since that dose of 1 big tsp HC and syrup I gave like you said.

So next test? 20 mins I guess?

Re: 6/2 Bailey PMPS 124 +2 38

No...it takes 30 mins to get the food into the system. So give him some LC to try and keep the numbers from coming too far back down and give him some time.

Yes..you will have to watch him...it's early in the cycle to be so low.

I will be up an hour....longer if you need.

Re: 6/2 Bailey PMPS 124 +2 38

Ok cool - low carb has been dispensed and he is munching.

Yeah the fact its so early is why I thought vet... esp when I couldn't get him up at first. I guess I just wasnt giving him enough syrup.

Re: 6/2 Bailey PMPS 124 +2 38 +3 67

I need to find out how much syrup to give still.. glad he went up for you.. phew!!! such a worry seeing low numbers.. Im still learning how to handle them too ;-) Im probably going to see low greens tonight too but might be a couple hours. I hope someone is online when it happens.

Re: 6/2 Bailey PMPS 124 +2 38 +3 67

The 30s are scary no matter when you get it on the meter but early on is very scary. I'm glad you retested...did you use the same meter because sometimes you can get false readings if you use the same meter over right away.

Because you have so much data and know how Bailey responds to food, I wouldn't be as concerned about sending you to the ER for a 38. When we get that on Health, we don't know the caregiver, don't know the cat, don't know how the cat reacts to food, etc.

I know you won't fade off somewhere :-D And you know your cat.

Normally, you only need a couple drops of syrup. A tablespoon is a lot of syrup. You just have to give it time to work.

Re: 6/2 Bailey PMPS 124 +2 38 +3 67

I used the same meter but it was a new blood drop so it wasnt immediate. I have retested before with no issues.

He has a wandering nadir.. any time from +3 to +9. Going to be a long night.

Fade? ha! way too wired!!! . I could almost go on the treadmill.... he is wired too - all three cats are totally excited cos mamabean is up and bailey is chasing Cookie around..

Re: 6/2 Bailey PMPS 124 +2 38 +3 67 +3.5 137

Yeah...it does :-D

I'd give him an hour. Give him LC when he's hungry. He might still come back down on you in a couple hours. He's bouncy so he might just keep going up.

When do you stop testing? When you get two, rising numbers when he hasn't had any food or gravy/syrup for a couple hours.

I'd take him back down to 2 drops tomorrow.

Will you be ok?

Re: 6/2 Bailey PMPS 124 +2 38 +3 67 +3.5 137

I think I will be fine. I will overdose him on syrup if need be.. ;)

Question though - how do I know when to feed syrup and when to feed LC? You had me do both..

Wendy

Re: 6/2 Bailey PMPS 124 +2 38 +3 67 +3.5 137

I just had you give him a little syrup because I didn't realize you'd given him a tbsp ;-) :-D

The "Handling Low Numbers" post is linked in my signature.

It's actually pretty easy. If he starts coming back down but is above 50, feed two tsp LC and retest in 30. Lather, rinse, repeat until he's surfing.

If he goes into the 40s, give him a tsp of gravy and retest in 30. Lather, rinse, repeat u Gil he's in the 50s.

If he drops into the 30s again, try two tsp of gravy first and test in 30. If he drops more, give him a couple drops of syrup.

Remember that after mid cycle, he probably won't need as much go bring him up.

I have to get some sleep tonight...I was up every two hours last night and no nap today...I'm pretty bleary eyed.

You be ok?

Re: 6/2 Bailey PMPS 124 +2 38 +3 67 +3.5 137

I gave him a big tsp of HC and syrup..not a tblsp ;) . Maybe 1.5tsp?

I read the low numbers thing but it doesnt say much about LC.. its all about HC which is why I was confused. ... so what you said above helps.

I will be fine - thanks again - go to bed!
