Good morning LL!

Nice sunny start again this morning. Happy furry purry boy with all 5 p's this morning. Tarragon and Turnup decided to have a whack-a-thon about 1/2 hour before the alarm this morning on top of their beans. Grrrrrr. This prompted Tarragon to go out in the hallway and cry for me to come get him. Poor boy.

DH read an interesting article last night. It said that adult cats only meow to talk to humans and that adult cats don't meow at eachother. Hmmmm. We have been thinking about this. Both of our kitties meow a LOT, but it always seems to be when they are looking for us or want us to come to where they are. Once we thought about it, they really don't ever meow to eachother, just growl, chirp, purrr, etc. Anybody have any thoughts? Here is a little excerpt from the article.

Cats meow. It's one of defining behavior of domestic house cats. Kittens meow for their mothers when they're hungry, cold or scared. Adult cats can communicate with other cats through myriad vocalizations, but meowing is reserved for humans. If your cat is meowing, he wants your attention.

Hope you all have a great day!

Bummer about the early morning whack-a-thong....poor T! I don't know about in your house, but in our house, whack-a-thons very quickly escalate into real fights, so I always have to break them up...no play-fighting over here.

Very interesting article your DH read...and I can totally see how it's true. All of my kitties are VERY chatty, and they make eye contact with me when they meow - they are obviously conveying a message. With Petey in particular, he literally carries on conversations with me...it's very, very cute. Actually, Zen does that, too, but not as enthusiastically as Petey does. But they don't meow at each other. If they're annoyed, they make other, very unpleasant sounds. If they're happy, they purr. I have seen Trix clear a room of big boy kitties with just a glance  - so I know she is communicating some sort of displeasure with them   !

Have a great day, Melissa!!

Morning Melissa, interesting article on the cats meowing meaning pay attention to me, Bean. Whenever Maggie sees another kitty crossing her patio, she does usually hiss. She's quite vocal with me with the meowing, and it always means something to me. Her vocal times are the early mornings when she asks for a brushing, seconds on breffifs, etc. Very interesting.
Aww...poor Tarragon and the whack-a-thon. Cute the way he asks to be carried back to bed. Have a nice day, Melissa.

Hi Melissa. The mid yellow isn't too bad of a start for Tarragon but we'll keep our fingers crossed that he comes down as the day progresses.

After reading your condo I realized that our cats don't meow at each other either but they do meow if they wake up and discover we left the room. Our NFC meows and carries all (10) of her little stuffed animals into the LR every night when DW goes to bed. Thank you for that info.

Won't be long before it's "pool time" in your neck of the woods. Have a great day Melissa and thank you for your visit today.

Hi guys .. sunny yellow for tarragon this morning .. sorry to hear about the early whack a thon! Interesting read, but it does seem true in this house as well .. our girls don't really talk to each other, but they sure meow for our attention! Have a great day guys!

Morning Melissa and Tarragon....another kitty on the yellow floor....guess there really must be a great party going on there!!
Shadow and Raja don't meow to each other either....interesting .... I guess I nver realized that before.
They quietly walk up to each other and kiss an ear or lick a face...but they don't meow.
Shadow will respond when we say "Hiiii" to him....he says Hi back to us.
Very interesting observation...thanks for sharing!!!

Sunny yellow along w/ lots of other kittehs! I hope thye move the party down a little soon.

I've read that too about the meowing. Since Tess was an only cat for so long I never had the comparison. W/ Emma it is only hisses and growls! Emma, I wish she would meow, but it is always YEOOOOW OOW OOW, meaning "get met out of this stupid laundry room!" Once I'm there she pretty much shuts up! I thnk she took vocal lessons from a Siamese!

Nice start for Tarragon today. I hope he slid down for you.

I had never thought about it before, but my cats don't meow to each other either. They make all kinds of different noises to each other, but they only meow at me.
