I guess it was too good to last. Time for a bounce. And this time it seems to be affecting him - he's really grouchy today which is so not him. He scratched me and growled and hissed at me and his brothers. But he's eating, pooping and peeing, letting me test him, etc. Will keep a close eye in him. Sure hope he's okay. He's curled up in his safe place - one of my closets. :-(

Update - he's limping on his back left leg. No idea why. Will keep an eye. Hope it doesn't require the stress of a dr visit. :-(

Re: 5/6 ELIAN - amps 375; 300 +2.5 :-(

If he hurt himself, it can cause the BG's to go up. Again, don't get discouraged over this. You have seen him in good numbers and surfing those numbers for the past couple days, which means, he can do it, his body is trying and even so far today he dropped 75 points, so hopefully he won't stay up here too long and will bring himself back down.

Remember this is a process and a marathon not a sprint. Patience pants needed today and if he is hurt, then you may need a vet visit.

Re: 5/6 ELIAN - pmps 384 E is limping/in pain. I'm worried.

Thanks Hillary. I'm not so much worried about his numbers today as what's going on with him. Was hoping he'd get over it quickly but that's not the case. Can't imagine what could have happened to him. He has only been in my bedroom and on the patio the last few days. But he's limping on his back right leg and crying in pain if I pick him up. He did go into the living room a little while ago and was sleeping on the back of the couch so he obviously was able to jump. I brought him back into my room, on my bed, where he spends every night. Hope we don't have to make a vet visit tomorrow. Could I have done anything when injecting insulin? I've been giving it in different areas of the scruffoif his neck. Could I have hit a nerve or something? I don't think so but who knows? :-(

Re: 5/6 ELIAN - pmps 384 E is limping/in pain. I'm worried.

I doubt it, but I'm not a vet. to me it sounds like he hurt his leg, maybe he jumped on or off something and landed poorly. the fact that he is crying in pain when you touch, tells me something is wrong and really should be looked at - even an xray may be needed - possible he strained a muscle or worse broke a bone. the only way to know for sure is to take him to the vet - as much as you don't want to, it sounds like it may be what is needed. after all you, if it is a break or fracture that has gotta to hurt a lot.

Re: 5/6 ELIAN - pmps 384 E is limping/in pain. I'm worried.

Yeah. I'm gonna call Dr Melissa in the am. Tomorrow is her surgery day so I hope she can see him. Like I said - he obviously jumped up onto the couch a little while ago. And he was in the closet, then he went onto his bed on the patio until I brought him in for testing and shot. No problem with that. So he's getting around. It's only when I pick him up or, like this morning, I just tried turning him around in bed and that's when he howled and scratched me and then ran away. Poor baby. 12 hrs was too long to make him wait although he's in my bed and comfy. And he did eat, ate treats, 'preened' and has done everything else normal. Although I haven't been on him 24/7 but I haven't seen him use the litter box. But I rarely do except at night.

Hi Susie,
I agree with Hillary and Sienne that a vetty visit is in order. I hope you can get in to see your vet tomorrow.

Sending healing vines,

Yep. Visit is in order. I keep thinking about neuropathy but I don't think that's what this would be.

His birth year is one year before Shadows.
I just learned from her x-ray she has arthritis. Jumping makes it hurt more, and certainly landing the wrong way.
I hope your vet can see you tomorrow and you get answers.

Neuropathy is painful but I haven't heard of it happening suddenly. It's gradual.
Is he showing any signs of neuropathy.

Re: 5/6 ELIAN - pmps 384 E is limping/in pain. I'm worried.

Paws crossed Elian feels better soon. A year ago my civie crashed into one of my kitchen appliances while playing. I heard it, didn't see it. He was limping quite a bit from that. The vet checked him over (no X-ray) and said it was a sprain. It took a couple of weeks before he stopped limping. One thing that might help, if you can, is to video him limping. When I tried to show Theo's limp to the vet, he was frightened and all he did was crouch down low so she couldn't see what was happening.

Great idea, Wendy. Thank you. I'll try to get video in the morning. I'm worried about getting him into a carrier. He's never been a jumper like my others. The highest he jumps is onto my bed. The others go up on my pot shelves 15 feet up!!! So I'm not sure how, where or when he got hurt. The others jump up to get into bathtub for their litter boxes - his is on the floor. I just don't get it. I'm wondering if may he got a nail caught and pulled off which is painful. He's letting me feel his paw but I don't want to stress him. Gonna get some sleep and call vet in the morning. He's calm, resting and doesn't appear to be in pain so we will call it a night. Unfortunately he's on MY side of the bed and has his head on my pillow. I have to sleep on his side which I've never done (it was the ex's side, needless to say!). Wondering if I should take him to the litter box.

Re: 5/6 ELIAN - pmps 384 E is limping/in pain. I'm worried.

good luck with the vet visit - and hopefully it will turn out to be much ado about nothing! It's just with situations like you described, you just never know what may have happened. To me it sounds like an injury not neuropathy. Neuropathy signs are walking on hocks (flat footed), having to stop and rest while walking down the hall or up/down stairs, things like that.

This to me sounds like an injury (hopefully minor) like he could have miss-stepped and not landed or landed funny.

Let us know what happens.
