Re: 4/27 Trixie AMPS 259 +2.5 292 +4.5 236

I'm feeling your pain right now!! I changed syringes because the Relion ones were becoming so inaccurate, even within one box, that I couldn't ignore it anymore. His dose was going from 1.5 to 1.75 with me trying to eyeball how much the line at the top was off kilter (I should just get calipers!!). He was getting a green every once in a while. I finally went back to the Terumos, even though there's a pesky bubble that takes FOREVER for me to get out every single time. His dose is now at 2u, but his numbers are still yellow with an occasional flippin PINK thrown in for good measure. The insulin pen is down by 3/4, so my next option is changing the pen. If that doesn't make things better, up his dose goes. I never thought I'd see over 2u again, but that's what I get for thinking!! Champ has a vet appointment on Friday for his senior check-up so that variable will be looked at. I hope Trixie's numbers decide to cooperate with you soon!!

OT...my daughter is graduating from college in December and I'm thinking I might have you make a special piece for her if that's something you do, probably a bracelet. What do you think?

ARGH!!!! Seriously, what is the deal???? Up, up, up, we go on the juice, only to make NO progress!! Frustrated and cursing my patience pants....

Patty - it's great to see you in LL! I'll send you a PM!!!

Re: 4/27 Trixie AMPS 259 +2.5 292 +4.5 236

You know...I was just talking to a dear friend of mine who is diabetic and telling her how I think Gracie's progress or lack thereof is seasonal. Gracie's SS looks identical to this time last year....it has ever since January.

My friend told me...absolutely it is seasonal. She said the barometric pressure can affect BG; the list of variables that can affect it is immense.

With that in mind, I went back and looked at Trix's SS from last April; guess Trix doesn't subscribe to the seasonality theory

I see you just started a new pen so we can take that variable out of the mix. You know what stands out to me? The fuds. yes...she did get into some low greens eating the Paws lickin' chicken and some of the others. But I see a pretty clear line where more yellow and higher started to creep in once you switched from FF (for phosphorus) to CC, Weruva, BFF, etc. But still, it seems odd you'd have to take her dose up that high because I know those foods are LC.

As unhelpful as it is, if you can't identify any reason....not the fuds, not any health issue, etc. ....sometimes they just have to go up. I had to take Gracie up from .5u to 1.4u. It's discouraging but it seems like you eventually hit that breakthrough dose and then they come down.

I'm a big help, huh? ;-)

Re: 4/27 Trixie AMPS 259 +2.5 292 +4.5 236

LOL, Marje...yep, it IS a big help knowing someone else is as baffled as I am! I see the clear line, too. Trix seems completely fine, despite the yellows and higher numbers...she is being her normal self. I'm sure there is some sort of fuds connection. Just as an example, Wellness Chicken always messed with her BGs, too, even though it is LC. But now I have few options, since I have to balance the phosphorous with the carbs, so I'm stuck with fuds that may mess with her BGs. I know she does well, number-wise, on EVO, but she really does hate the stuff and convincing her to eat it is challenging. So, up we go. At one point, over a year ago, we did have to take her up to just over 4.0U, for no apparent reason. Interestingly, that dosage creep started the day after we lost power for 23 hours. Very strange. After getting her up over 4.0U, something "broke", and she worked her way down to F2.50, which were able to hold for a very long time, until this whole low phosphorous thing came into play.

I'm trying to not let it make me crazy, but I'm not being all that successful....

And, it very interesting about the seasonal affect on diabetes. At the same time, I'm not surprised that Trix doesn't subscribe to that theory :? ...why make anything logical for the beans here  ?

Re: 4/27 Trixie AMPS 259 +2.5 292 +4.5 236

Hi Amy - just had to pop in and say HI!

Sorry for all that yellow, but understand too on the fuds thing and the seasons. Your a good bean, you'll get her back to the lagoon.

hope your day has been a good one!

Nice to see a blue number after the yellows today. I never thought about the seasonal thing, but it sounds like a good theory. Simon's ear allergies are worse in the Spring and it seems like his BG is acting crazy too. Maybe a correlation. Also, I was interested to hear about Patty's take on the Relion syringes. I bought some for the first time a month ago, and it is really hard to judge exactly the right amount. I am definitely going to switch to another brand after this box is finished.

Trixie, tomorrow is another day and I expect to see better numbers from you, ok?!

Our vet mentioned the seasonal thing too. Her explanation is less exercise in the winter. That totally makes sense for dogs but also for cats. They sure like to find cozy spots and sleep in cold weather.

ETA: Does Trixie like egg white? I read somewhere that is a phosphorus binder.
