Straight blues through the night? I'll take it! :-D

Going home at lunch today to test again, but I'm also planning on stopping off at the vet's to pick up a year-long prescription for syringes and drop off Mikey's latest numbers. I'm thinking of printing out Michelangelo's articles to share with him and also maybe encourage some of his other feline diabetic owners to be a bit more proactive and get him converted into the vet everyone always dreams of but rarely exists! Don't get me wrong; he's a pretty phenomenal vet and has saved quite a few of our pets' lives over the last 30 years or so we've been going to them. It's just a matter of educating him without insulting him.

Not too happy with the yellow. Come on, Mikey! Go back to greens where you're happiest at.

I stopped in the Vet's today to renew my prescription for syringes. He was out, but both the Vet Techs there chatted with me for a while and asked me questions like what I feed Michelangelo and why I don't do the prescription diabetic foods. I explained to them that they're way too high in carbs for Mikey and no diabetic (well, any cat really, but I didn't want to push the issue) should be eating dry because there's not enough water in it for them. I showed them on Mikey's chart how even a difference between his regular 5% carb food and his "low numbers" 8% carb food can cause a ~20 point rise in his BGs. So, Hill's m/d wet, at 14% carbs, is still waaaaay too high for him.

I also passed them along the two posts written on Michelangelo and told them how much cheaper the Lantus pens were ($25) vs. the vial (~$140). They even started taking notes.

They told me how one person was bringing her cat in every other week for hypos and how they wished the owner would actually care about the cat, but the owner can't be bothered to even remember when she gives a shot, much less how much she's supposed to give and only cares if her cat is walking around. I told them to give her my number and I could straighten her out. They both laughed and said they already had my number on hand to give to the owners of their diabetic patients and were even planning on calling me the next time they get another feline diabetes diagnosis so I could help out. :thumbup I love my vet!
