Good morning Lantus Land!

I don't quite know what to do with myself lately. Leo's condo no longer starts with the laundry list of yesterday's numbers and    dose reductions. I'm not getting up an hour early for that +11. I don't have to come home at lunch or leave work on time to make the other +11 or answer the 1:30am alarm (boy it was SWEET turning off that alarm the other night!). I keep thinking, OMG I forgot to do something!

Karma is a funny thing. I haven't tidied up his testing supply box which still sits in a bit of clutter on the counter. His caliper is still laying where I put it down after his last shot. DH is still bringing down Leo's latest prescription of syringes this weekend.

Yesterday Leo reminded me very emphatically that JUST BECAUSE YOU NO STICK MY EARS ALLA TIMES ANYMORE MOMMY, I STILL GOOD BOY AND I SHOULD GET TEST TREATS! Like still EVERY HOUR or somethings, k? :: chews on my hand :: Lubs you mommy. ~Leo, King of Farts

BAD mommy! That little fart cat is addicted to fresh liver, shrimp, chicken, ham and the occasional scallop. Eats better than I do sometimes.

Happy Friday everyone! We are sending love, vines and prayers to our kitteh and beans.

Re: 4/5 Leo OTJ Trial Day 3 AMBG 66

Hi guys .. leo is looking great on day 3!! Enjoy your "old" routine of sleeping all night and thinking in normal time instead of "+2, or it's +11" :-D have a great weekend!

Re: 4/5 Leo OTJ Trial Day 3 AMBG 66

Morning Lisa! With all that extra time, you could take up a hobby..something that involves poking? hmmmmmmm needle point? Enjoy your dilemma   LEO... GO GET THOSE TREATS!!!!

Re: 4/5 Leo OTJ Trial Day 3 AMBG 66

Woohoo Leo. Love that BG!!! Keep it up.

Lisa, you crack me up. Just think of all the sleep and extra running time you can add back to your life! I love Mary's idea of coming up with a 'poking' hobby.   I can see it now...Lisa will take up needle point and Leo will think the thread is his to play with and then expect more treats!!

Have a great day.
Karen

Re: 4/5 Leo OTJ Trial Day 3 AMBG 66

Just wait until you lose your daily condo! Talk about withdrawal!

I so know what you mean about routine. When I did this with Maui, I kept opening the fridge to take the insulin out and then had to just shut the door. You are secretly happy, yet scared because you have been doing this routine for so long now and soon you will have to do something new. I will say, it is a huge burden that gets lifted when you join the OTJ group.

Counting down the days with you and then PARTY!

   HAPPY DAY 3, LEO!!!

Oh my, extra time! However will you fill it? (Let me count the ways!!)

Have a great day, Lisa! Don't get bored!!

Silly bean! Of course he still needs all his treats! That or your hand, you choose!

Re: 4/5 Leo OTJ Trial Day 3 AMBG 66

I still have .5 vial of lantus in the fridge (opened Oct) as I can't throw it out :? , still have syringes.
Losing the daily condo also takes time getting used to.

I still give Honey (and other 2) freeze dried chicken treats - I use them for brushing and started teeth cleaning.
I had to stop my repeat order on Amazon though as I now have 2 of the big dog-size bags ;-)

Re: 4/5 Leo OTJ Trial Day 3 AMBG 66

way to go Leo.. its nice to see a cat go OTJ trial after so long. Can you tell me what you did - if anything - that made the difference?

Re: 4/5 Leo OTJ Trial Day 3 AMBG 66

Happy Day Three!!!
dancing_cat dancing_cat dancing_cat

Yes. It's hard to give up the condo...
sleeping again is the easy part.

I think Leo's inspiration for otj is to stop traveling. Poor baby, hates it so much.
He should get a treat daily just for being so cooperative as to not have to do that anymore.

Re: 4/5 Leo OTJ Trial Day 3 AMBG 66

Congrats on Day 3!!! :RAHCAT flip_cat :RAHCAT I hope that the good numbers continue and kitteh keeps feeling good!!! Iunderstand feeling like you feed them better than you do youself; I think I take better care of my cats than I do myself sometimes! Ahhh, the love we have for our furry babies!

Re: 4/5 Leo OTJ Trial Day 3 AMBG 66

Hi Everyone! Thank you for all the well wishes! It was a pick-me-up to read your notes...as I said to Rhiannon below.

Hi Emily - I hope so too - I get so nervous waiting for the meter to beep! they sure are spoiled, aren't they? :-)

Hi Rhiannon - thank you for the dancing kitties! This sure feels funny. You hit on a point there about Leo ... he hate the traveling, but he's a different cat at my apartment. He owns the place, and we play and have fun all the time. it's not like that at home because he's not allowed certain places because of Molly, and he's "on guard" and he can't sleep with me. Now, he cuddles with me all the time. I started to feel depressed today, and I realized that if all goes well, he'll never come down here again. I won't have my furry little guy and he won't have the fun and freedom he has now. So actually, I'm kind of sad right now. If that makes sense. i didn't expect to feel this way.

Hi Wendy - heck, what did I do? I have no idea. I kept looking at his trends and trying different things I read about, like going up and down by smaller doses because he didn't hold the reductions. And waiting 2 or 3 times dipping below 50 before I reduced him. I had to do that because of his bouncing - he would earn a reduction and then bounce through another reduction or so when he was dumping shed. I also did some "not approved" stuff like shooting a little short when he was low, and then "making up for it" on the next shot. I'm not sure that had an effect, I only did it a few times, but my goal was to keep him as even keeled as possible. I did a lot of shooting low and stayed up many nights. I did a fair amount of working from home, going in late, going home at lunch. Without that flexibility, this would not have happened i don't think. Looking at his SS, I think a lot of it near the end was Liver Training School....focusing more on reducing the bounce rather than hitting the greens because the greens killed his AMBG values....and to do that I did several BCSs in the last month or so ... "pulling the punch" so to speak. Not protocol at all. But you can see starting around 2/24, I started mucking more with doses ... not really dosing on a sliding scale, but dosing based on what I thought he was going to do in the next couple cycles and how much shed he had. Starting around that time, it seemed like Mr P and Mr L all the sudden stopped sputtering so violently and Mr P seemed to grab on to the edge my his nails and start producing insulin a little more consistently. That all may be coincidence, but knowing Leo (big ECID disclaimer here) the little mucking here and here may have been what he needed to keep his BGs in (overall) a more healthy region for long enough to get traction on healing. Now, the gurus will come along and lambast me for suggesting something other than the exact protocol, but after months and months of sleepless nights, the engineer in me had to start thinking outside the box. Well, not sure that made any sense, but there it is!

Hi Denise - :: smile :: I know! That damned bottle of Lantus will probably be there forever as a talisman against falling out of remission! LOL on the repeat order on Amazon!

HI Ann 7 Tess - yes, he's gonna get back to his regular treat level, but I'll still get the play chewing I'm sure .. .but I like that because he licks my hand before he goes back to chewing! :-D

Hi Ella - true ... I'm wondering what to do ... I am stuck down here this weekend for a Sunday family event, but I have Saturday free. I am going to check out some trails near the river to run on. I was also thinking of going to the tattoo convention down here. I'm an underwater photographer and I've wanted to get a montage of my pics on my back. Fish and coral stuff.

Mary and Stella - yes, I can go be a wild woman! LOL!

Hi Hillary - I know about the condo! I will have to run around and do visiting like you do! I feel the burden shifting and it feels so strange. Thanks for counting down with us!

Hi Mary - poking hobby LOL! i don't think needle point - my eyes are pretty bad. How about swordplay?

Hi Karen - I'll have to find some thread for Leo ... I have a string he plays with, but his favorite toy right now is the plastic strip you tear off the top of a milk jug. @-) @-) @-) Spend $6, it lays on the floor. Drag it in hooked to your pant leg, it's the best new toy. Sheesh!

Hi Devon - I'm gonna sleep in tomorrow until his "preshot" test time! Woohoo! I think it's time to shift the test time later so I don't have to do that ... hmmmm, do I have to shift his test time by only 15 minutes at a time?

Re: 4/5 Leo OTJ Trial Day 3 AMBG 66

Hi Lisa, oh you crack me up with that cartoon of kitty eating on the counter. I can imagine the extra time you must have and all the things we do is like clockwork. You'll get used to the free time fast. And sure leo still deserves treats. Does he ever get on his testing spot? Sometimes Mags up on the sofa where I test her asking to be tested, but she really wants the treat, too. Leo sure is our miracle boy! Have a great and lots of time weekend. :-D
Leo my bro, I'll be over to visit you this weekend, sis Mags

Hi Barb - thanks! Another good test - PMBG 88 - woo hoo!

Hi Kathie - thanks for saying - have a good night too!

HI Ann - Clockwork - you are right. Everything has been so regimented, and you don't realize how it really takes over. I test Leo on my lap at the table where I normally sit at the computer. He sits by me, but when I put the sock in the microwave, he comes right over to the microwave, and after I sit down he comes right over to the chair to be picked up. He's been trained by the sound of the microwave, and when I heat up something for ME, he wants a poke and a treat!!!

Looking good Leo! Keep it up!

... And you're complaining that you don't know what to do you with yourself? Too funny! Although, I may be where you're at one day, so I probably shouldn't laugh. Very nice #s! Just hang in there. You're both doing extremely well, and I know you're proud of the accomplishments that you both have achieved. All in all, doesn't it feel really good to not have to do all that? :-D

Hi, Lisa.
I'm no guru, but I looked at Leo's spreadsheet and what really stands out is Leo started hitting the greens hard on about March 17. So he must have found some good green ale at the local Irish pub, and that made the difference.     That's my take on it.
Way to go Leo!!!

John
