Cats can have diarrhea or constipation issues that are not related to the diabetes. Peoples can get intestinal bugs that cause us softer stools or diarrhea. So can cats.
IDB, UTI's usually kick my cat into diarrhea mode. Last time I tried the pumpkin/squash 1T bid to firm things up. I like this better than using an antibiotic which will kill off the good bacteria in his system. Then need to feed probiotics to get him feeling better.
Is the poo watery diarrhea, squirting out in a stream more like urine? Maybe with a few larger chunks mixed in? You might need an antiobitic like metronidazole. No drug first option is to add a little canned plain pumpkin, 1T (tablespoon), to the wet food. You only want the pumpkin with no spices or other ingredients added.
Is the poo a little soft, pancake batter cconsistency? Add a little pumpkin, 1t (teaspoon)
Is the poo a little firmer than pancake batter? soft so it passes easily through his system? Just right.
Is the poo firm like a tootsie roll? Does it look dried out? That's pretty firm if it's as firm as a tootsie roll. Ok. monitor so it doesn't get too hard.
Is it hard little pellets, corn kernal size to extra large black olive size? More water needed, add Miralax 1/4 t BID. DEcrease if poo gets too soft like thin pancake batter, to 1/8 t bid. Increase if poo gets too hard and small with no give to it when pressed, 1/2 t BID. you can back down the dose from a higher amount. Or try the pumpkin first if your cat will eat it mixed with his regular wet food.
My cat swings from watery diarrhea to hard firm pellets. He is on miralax 1/8 t BID because we discovered 1/4 t bid was too much. Needs this on a consistent basis.
