And it's back to the lagoon for Trix  , who is very sweetly snuggling and helping with her condo right now! ExhaustedBean wasn't able to re-get up before +3.75...I don't even remember hitting the snooze bar...kitty alarm Noah woke me up. The Rambunctious 5 have been pretty calm the last couple nights, but working late on Thursdays always wears me out.

The Farm Market was fine. Yes, Kat, fortunately it was indoors, or you would not have caught me there at all! This is the last winter market for us; the market switches to the "regular" weekly market after this, and the focus is obviously on food. We artists just help fill in the gaps during the winter.

I'm off today, so it's fuds shopping for Trix (and beans). I'm hoping to find a new lower phosphorous fuds for her that she likes, and that her BGs like....

Sending many, many, many positive dental vines and prayers out to Zener today!

Have a great day, everyone!

Amy

Morning Amy, nice slide into the Green Lagoon for Trixie! You must have needed that extra sleep after the long day yesterday and a nice way to wake up to a green! Isn't it the food wars with these kitties. I wish Wellness Turkey was lower in phosphorus. I can't remember where I bought the Avoderm Chicken, but it's very moist. I bet Trixie might like it. I think Petco carries it. Enjoy your day off, and is it TJ's today? Thanks for those recommendations, yum.

Re: 3/15 Trixie AMPS 153 +3.75 79

Yep, I'm off to TJs myself! Love that place.

I just looked in my cat fuds cupboard, and I actually have one can of the AvoDerm....I must have tried it with Mario, whom I don't think was too fond of it. I can't remember if Trix tried it or not....

Re: 3/15 Trixie AMPS 153 +3.75 79

Surf, Trixie, surf! The LagoonMeister wants to surf, too, but is too far up on shore today. So have a good surf for yourself and one for him, too. OK?

Hi Amy, Enjoy your shopping trip. TGIF!

Nice greens Trixie! How sweet of her to help with the condo. Enjoy your day off and the fuds shopping (Trixie and otherwise). Good luck with the new food experiment. You are such a trooper. I, on the other hand, do not rock the boat when it is going along. Have a great day Amy!!

Re: 3/15 Trixie AMPS 153 +3.75 79

I really wish I didn't have to rock the boat, Melissa...but with Trix's new dx of CKD, I have to find her fuds with lower phosphorous. I'm not looking forward to it...it took us forever to find the balance of foods that she likes that also keep her BGs in check...

Re: 3/15 Trixie AMPS 153 +3.75 79

I hear ya. Poor girl and poor you. I am just lucky we haven't had to try anything else. Good luck and i hope you find one she likes. :-D

Re: 3/15 Trixie AMPS 153 +3.75 79

Hi Amy.....you'll let us know what lower phos fuds you find, and give us Miss Trixie's ratings, as she tries them, right?

I always seem to come back to FF with Checkers....he doesn't love anything. He tolerates most, and I often have to flavor them to get him to eat. grr_red

Have fun shopping today. :-D

Re: 3/15 Trixie AMPS 153 +3.75 79

Nice slide into green for Trixie this morning. I hope you can find some lower phosphorus food that she likes and that will also keep her BGs low.

Re: 3/15 Trixie AMPS 153 +3.75 79

Hi Amy, just a note on the Avoderm Chicken. I hope you didn't buy too many cans today! I came home to Mags at 222 at the +9! I was so intent on the phosphorus that I forgot to check the carbs. It's 9 carbs, so if Trixie is carb sensitive like Mags, it will spike her bg! It will be good as a mc or hc though when Trixie runs low. Mags still kind of likes the Evo, so i still have that one left/ Enjoy the shopping, especially TJ's!

Re: 3/15 Trixie PMPS 90 - culture results

Trix popped up to 104 at +7, then brought it back down the lagoon for PMPS...you go, girl  !

A vet tech called with Trix's urine culture results. No big surprise, it's negative. My gut told me we didn't need to run/spend money on that extra test, as Trix has absolutely no symptoms of any sort of infection, nor did her BW indicate an infection. But the vet I spoke with (not our regular vet) really kinda guilted me into giving the go-ahead. AND...the want to re-run the urinalysis in 3 weeks. Huh???? This is a cat who is clinically well, with no symptoms of anything being wrong at all, including her early CKD....I just don't see the point in putting her through another needle stick. I appreciate that my vet's practice is very thorough, but I honestly think they go overboard with the testing. So, I do need to speak to my actual vet about it...she always looks at the whole cat, and not just the numbers, unlike the vet who called us with the results, who is a very good vet, but is also very, very clinical. We have to find the balance between keeping Trixie (and all of them) healthy, unstressed, and keeping the bean's bank account alive. We have spent SO much money at the vet since last December it's crazy. And we're just at the start of this CKD journey, so we really have to start picking and choosing. In addition to Trix, we have four other felines we need to consider, too.

Sorry, little vent!

Tonight, we began transition to lower phosphorous fuds. Tonight's blend was equally divided amongst her old FF Chicken, her old Purina One Turkey, and her new Evo 95% beef. I haven't eaten meat in many years, so it all sounds gross to me, but this particular blend...ICK! But, she and Frankie both gave it two paws up...at least for tonight! We'll see what they have to say in the morning. The Evo isn't quite as low as I would like on phosphorous, but it's much better than the FF and Purina. Baby steps. I have several other varieties waiting in the wings, but it is definitely tough to find fuds that fit both the FD and CKD criteria.

but it is definitely tough to find fuds that fit both the FD and CKD criteria.

Yes it is! It's even trickier to find foods that fit both criteria and are liked, as well  .

This is what I keep in stock for Ripley:
Wellness Turkey
Evo 96% Chicken & Turkey
Cowboy Cookout

I give her a blend of 1-3 of these; she seems to be ok as long as there's Cowboy Cookout mixed in; but too much CC is too rich for her. Wellness or Evo on it's own doesn't get touched  .

Re: 3/15 Trixie PMPS 90 - culture results

Trix loves the various Wellness's, but it sends her BGs all over the map. I've had lots of different problems with Wellness products over the years, so I've scratched that one off the list. Trix isn't too finicky....until I try to feed her something "healthy"

I've got EVO Chicken & Turkey, BG beef, Cowboy Cookout, and a few others on stand by. I think we'll probably have to do a wide rotation schedule to keep her interested without her FF.

Re: 3/15 Trixie PMPS 90 - culture results

Hi Amy, yay on no infection with the culture results. That doesn't make sense to get another urinalysis in three weeks, I agree. What does the Vet suspect? Trixie is pretty health and just at the beginning stages of crd. So glad you checked the carbs on the Avoderm, unlike some other bean!

Re: 3/15 Trixie PMPS 90 - culture results

Hi Amy, Today is a day when negative is positive !!!! :thumbup Give Trixie a little scritch from us. Hugs from us. mary&ollie

I get it!!! Kibble was so much easier.
Sometimes not only do I feel grossed out but feel wicked guilty too    Like my veg friends are gonna judge me..or when I go to volunteer on the Farm Sancutary the cows and chickens will know I've cheated on them..   Oh i'm crazy pants...
So glad about the neg results. Just as happy about the lagoon. Keep it up Trixie girl!

Re: 3/15 Trixie PMPS 90 - culture results

Hi Amy, nice lagooning for Miss Trix today  Glad to hear the urine results came back normal, and I agree that a repeat test doesn't seem necessary. My old vet would frequently order unnecessary tests... it is a business, I guess, and they will do anything to rack up the bill. When Kismet was dx with asthma, they wanted to run repeat x-rays (after already doing 3!) which I refused. Why expose him to more radiation when it's not necessary?

Wishing you luck with finding a new food that Trix will eat. K is a very picky eater, too, but I've figured out that sprinkling some crumbled up freeze dried chicken on his fuds will pique his appy. Hope you and your brood have a great day!

yay on the negative culture. Boy, those tests really do break the bank. It's good you have a vet who looks at the whole cat but then also sometimes the clinical view is good to balance. My vet does a little of both, but gives me alternatives sometimes, like we can postpone expensive test X and do cheaper test Y now, etc. She is great.

I'm lurking on the food discussion. With Leo and his BGs and Molly with CKD, it's a challenge too. I have bins with different names on them for who can eat what, and which both can eat, etc. Complicated.

I was all excited to get Cowboy Cookout and several of that brand, but it was soundly rejected all around! So depressing - we are working through Wellness and Evo, and not having terrific acceptance yet. Fancy Feast is still #1. Sigh. Good luck with the food search.

Hi again,
it's great that Trixie's culture results are negative. I agree that you shouldn't have to have a re-test in 3 weeks unless there is something the vet isn't telling you. Ask your regular vet!

Ann (Tess) put together a sheet based on Dr. Lisa's two new lists: the low carb list and the low phos. list. I'm not sure if she posted it as a google doc or not, but perhaps send her a P.M. Good luck! Have you tried the hardboiled egg whites mixed into the food?

Good luck! It is really hard finding a food that is acceptable to the feline palate and that stays acceptable! (and that doesn't trigger allergies!).

Have a good evening,

Ella & Rusty

Like I tell myself (and others): she's (he's in Gobby's case) YOUR cat and YOU will call all the shots cat_pet_icon
