Home all day, so I get to houseclean (which I am actually looking forward to), and keep an eye on Ripley's numbers. She seems to be responding to last night's dose increase.

Ann, Unfortunately, I wouldn't be earning much $ as a house-cleaner. Went BTB after taking care of Ripples, and then watched tv in bed for a while :oops: . Oh well. I have all day to clean...

Ripley's in her favorite daytime spot, basking in the sun. After eating her breffis, she loudly squawked at the back door to be let outside. I'm sure she was asking politely ;-) .

Also, a bit OT, I've always wondered, how did you come up with Ripley's name? I have a friend who has a Ripley (girl) and Jonesy (boy) inspired by the movie Alien :) I love Ripley for a kitty (wish I'd thought of it!)

Hi, Courtney, Ripley heard your lagoon suggestion :-D !

Ripley's named after Alien. I'm a big movie fan, and come from a family of movie fans (my aunt has a cat named Jonesy!).
When I brought Ripley and Lucy (Rip's sis, now GA) home as babies, Ripley got named after a movie (we wanted a strong female name, which is funny, because my Ripley is such a docile push-over, and wouldn't hurt a fly nor a scary alien) and Lucy's name came from one of my favorite childhood books, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. (The character was such a curious, independent little girl, and my Lucy was a curious, independent-to-an-extreme, runt-kitty -- opposite of Rip in every way.)

And Ripley's such a sweet kitty-girl, I'm sure she'd approve her name being used again someday ;-) .

How neat! We are big movie fans, too! DH teaches film studies (as part of the literature program) at our University. Together, we developed a Horror Film Studies course, and a sci-fi class. He frequently teaches the Alien trilogy. Love Ripley --- she is one the coolest heroines EVER. I was just telling Dan about your Ripley, and he said that he was planning on naming our next pud Ripley! :lol: I am a big Poe fan, so if we get another black cat, I am pushing for "Pluto" of the famed Black Cat short story. (Maybe we will just have to get two so we can have a Ripley and a Pluto.)

When I first found Kismet, he was going to be Ilsa if he was a girl, because of all the cars in the world, he crawled up into mine! (Casablanca reference.) I settled on Kismet, because just a week before he crawled up into my engine, I was thinking of adopting a black cat. When I met DH two months later, he told me on one of our early dates, he wanted a black cat (without knowing I had just found one!) So Kismet is truly a suitable name... we like to say that it was kismet (fate) that brought us all together :mrgreen: Casablanca also happens to be Dan's favorite film of all time, so when I told him about how I was going to name Kis Ilsa if he was a girl, we knew we were truly meant to be together. We had a Casablanca (1940s) themed wedding. Like Bogart and Bacall, there is quite an age difference between us... I met him as an undergrad when I took a film course he taught ;-) Dan also resembles Bogey quite a bit, and thinks I look like Lauren. :mrgreen: So I can totally relate to your love for film!

Oh, I love your story of Kismet! And of you and your DH!

I'd love to talk movies with you sometime (OT of course ;-) !) I love to talk about and dissect movies -- but as soon as I start talking about directors, genres, etc., I tend to lose my conversation partner. (My dad and my sis are my film-conversationalists. We can talk endlessly! My sis and I are such film geeks, we listen to the filmspotting podcast & often watch the same movies so we can discuss them -- and she's 3 states away!) That's so great that you guys developed film curricula together ~ any more planned?

Back to kitties (well, sort of): A couple of years ago I went to Baltimore -- I very much wanted to visit Poe sights, but I ran out of time. Pluto would be a great name for a future kitty!

Ripley did reach the lagoon today, though :mrgreen: !

I smelled Lantus pretty strongly after the shot; hoping it was from a bit on the syringe (can't remember if I wiped it w/paper towel or not :roll: ) and not a partial...

I would love that! So far, I've only assisted on developing the two... but Dan is always inventing new courses. He's taught dystopic film, Asian cinema, woman and film... the list goes on and on!

In other news, looks like Miss Ripley is bouncing a bit. I hope her insulin kicks in at +3 and she comes down some for you. Have a great night!
