Last night I was worried about Kibby, as he was in hiding all day and into the night. At 12:15am I heard him in the LB, so I sat up to watch him. I noticed he no longer was wearing his cone! :o But it was so obvious that was the reason he was so unhappy yesterday. Suddenly he was on the desk asking for food, he got on the bed to bathe and sleep - he was so much more comfortable and happy that I didn't have the heart to put it back on. So I got very little sleep, as every time I felt or heard him move or lick, I watched to make sure he wasn't messing with his drain. I did catch him occasionally licking the wound, but he wasn't pulling at the drain or anything, so I let him be. If I have to put one of the drooler's shirts on him until I can get him his own, I'll do that.

He goes to the vet at 4 this afternoon, but for now, I am btb!

Re: 11/30 Kibby took his cone off overnight!

Lil stinker! Although I wouldn't want to wear the cone of shame, either. Hopefully, he can leave that drain alone.

Hope you enjoyed your extra zzzzz's... I'm curious as to where the name Kibby came from?

Re: 11/30 Kibby took his cone off overnight!

Does Kibby still need to keep the draining tube? Careful with the licking, canbe very nasty on the newly healed area.
Good luck with the vet's visit.

I can't blame him for taking it off, poor guy. I'm glad to hear he is eating and using the LB. That's all good!

I'm glad he is eating and using his lb now. Tarragon won't do either in a cone. I would just keep an eye and try to block him from bothering the drain, but it will probably be ok. Good luck at the vetty!!

Tiggy was the same - so miserable with the cone on. So I'd take it off when I could watch him, and put it on when I couldn't.. like overnight. At least he got some happy periods without it on!

Kibby, you stealthy thing you! Imagine the little guy knowing he had to be ever so quite or mamabean would wake up and make him stop futzing with his cone.
I hope your day goes beautifully..
prayers for quick and perfect healing.

I don't blame you for leaving it off. It seems like he is OK without it. How much longer does the tube stay in? Sending good vetty vines for this afternoon.

Re: 11/30 Kibby took his cone off overnight!

When my Ali had to have her emergency hysterectomy, she had to wear a cone also. She didn't like that very much either. I tried infant onsies on her and during the day, when I was home, it worked well, but in the evening, she was able to get herself out of them, so the cone had to go on at night.

Glad he is feeling better without the cone, tho!

hahah funny how much they can't resist licking ..

Noni still after now 2 weeks without the cone ! but she'd still look at me whenever she want to lick herself .. like wanting my approval ;D

poor baby

Re: 11/30 Kibby took his cone off overnight!

I hope everything went okay at the vet today and Kibby is still doing better. I'm not surprised he took the cone off. I've had cats do that before. I hope he can get by with just a t-shirt now.

Re: 11/30 Kibby took his cone off overnight!

Maybe you can find a t shirt with a picture of an ice cream cone on it.

Heal well, Kibby. Leave your drain alone!!

Have a good weekend, Anne. Hang in there!

Just got back from the vet - they had to push our appt back an hour. His temp is normal. Pcv is up to 25%, so it's slowly but surely getting better. He flushed the wound out and said it's looking good. There was a tiny bit draining out when I got him there, and Dr said there was a little pus sort of sitting at the top. Because the abscess was so deep, he wants to leave the drain in until Monday, but doesn't need to see him until then. When he does take it out, he'll probably close up the top wound, but leave the bottom one open, so it can continue to drain if necessary. It's going to take quite a while to heal properly, I'd imagine. He did say it would be okay to put a tshirt on him while he still has the drain. I bought a pack of wife-beaters, size 2T (the smallest they had) thinking that loose-fitting might be better with the drain. I also bought a pack of 3-9 month onsies, that will fit tighter after the drain is out. I figure I can just cut the snaps off. The pack I got is for girls, but they have kitties on them! How perfect! He went directly back under the bed when he got out of the carrier, but I served him dinner under there, and he ate it all, plus got his AB. I'll give pain meds before I go to bed.

Even tho his ears didn't seem to be bothering him today, I insisted Dr look at them. There was a little bit of discharge in one of them, which he looked at under the microscope, and sure enough, he's got a little infection starting. So I have to give ear drops twice a day now, too. :o That should be fun  If I can get him to come out from under the bed tonight, I'll see how he tolerates the tshirt, and of course I'll get pics whenever I do get it on him. ;-)

Tara - His name was originally (or his real name is) Skittles. I started calling him Skittles 'n Bits, which then became Kibbles 'n Bits, and then Kibby. It just stuck.

First....love the history of Kibby's name  !!!

Poor little ears now, too! What an awesome bean, catching that so quickly!!! I hope he takes the drops in stride.

I can only imagine how cute he is going to look in his little wife beater and kitty onesies!!! Smart little guy, wiggling out of his cone! I don't blame him...those things look like a huge nightmare. Just about this time last year, my civvie, Zen, had an abcessed anal gland that ruptured. He was supposed to wear C.O.S, too...I had it on him for about 30 seconds and he freaked out so badly that I thought he would seriously injure himself. Needless to say, I don't think I slept for a week or so, because I had to stay awake and make sure he didn't lick  !

Try and have a relaxing evening, Anne!!
