Yesterday was..... ARRGGHHHHH day in MannieLand. Also known as "The escalator went up" day.... Also known as STRATOSPHERE day in MannieLand. :o ohmygod_smile @-) @-) :YMSIGH: SIIIGGGGHHHHHHHHH...... what a frustrating day! Mr Liver won the war yesterday, making sure all in LL knew that Mannie still had one.... WOW. No doubt he was bouncing from his dive the night before, and I expected the bounce, just hoped it wouldn't be as bad as it was. He just kept going up after it started. We hope for a better day today. Paws crossed. He did manage to bring things down a bit, but wow upon wows. It has been a bit since we have seen "that Color" (cardio day) and I hope it is forever before we see it again.  As I said last night: SO DISHEARTENING! I have said to so many others over the past several years to many beans in this position: it's only one number in a sea of thousands... it will come down, he will be blue and green again. :-D :-D  We start anew today, right Mannie? Lubs ya big guy! cat_pet_icon And back to the blues, OK?

All is well in MannieLand. :-D :-D After a fabulous Thanksgiving Day, and dry weather, we are back to the sloppy dreary drizzly rains... SO SO typical of November here in the PNW. Last night it was raining, and amongst all that the fog moved in. It was the strangest thing to watch those two elements mix. Mannie could have cared less. He was zonked on his nanners.  It was a fairly mellow day for him. No doubt he was in recovery mode from his traveling adventure on Thanksgiving, where I know he had no rest for the 6 hours we were there. Poor kitty! So yesterday he slept. :-D He made a few trips out onto the deck, but no further. NO way did he want to mess with all those puddles yesterday. Maybe I need to get him some kitty boots.  This morning we had a great test, feed and shoot and clean plate club , purrs and lots of cuddles. Normalcy in MannieLand. :-D

Have a great day everyone. Today is catch up day - shopping, laundry, errands, and whatever else I can find to do. Mannie has a vetty appt at 8 this morning, to do BP check for his cardiologist, and to attempt, once again, to have a urinalysis done. Maybe they can manage to collect it before he pees in his carrier, or on the vetty floor, or down the front of some poor vet tech. 99% of the time this is what happens, and there we sit with no urine.... He is a master at it. SO, we try again today...   I hope too that there will be some sort of a weather break - I'd like to get out for a hike, at least a local one... It looks promising for the afternoon. YAY!

Hey everybody! I hear that it is 70, and sunny, at the dunes. Maybe we can go and do some dunes sliding, and some hang gliding, and have a cookout and stuff. Rusty is off to the big city soon, and well... maybe we can plan our visit while we plays. Uh Rusty???? When do you go to the big city? is it today???? I dunno! OK friends, plans up in the air... We figures it all out. ~~ Mannie

Re: 11/24 Mannie AMPS 287, +2 358

358 @ +2. :YMSIGH: and darn it! Food spike for sure, but was so hoping I wouldn't see one today. Ok Mannie... down you go! :-D

Re: 11/24 Mannie AMPS 287, +2 358

Mannie, Mannie get back down out of the stratosphere. You're a good dude and friend but Leo does NOT need any friends up there!!! Looking forward to your wonderful espresso - we were SO TIRED this morning from our move! Be a good boy and don't pee in the carrier, k? It's just a little ride and it makes your bean so much happier.

I hope you have a good day with the vetty and then with the chores. I'll be mucking around my new place doing house stuff too. Too bad about the weather. We have overcast 40 degrees and lots of WIND!

Yo Mannie my man ... dune surfing sounds SOOOO good. Warms on my belly! I needs a VACATION from all this moving around stuff. Mamabean made fresh TURKEY LIVER and I scored a chunk for the ride! And, aaaah, you can't get me at the back door anymore. But I gots my own little window and you can sneak me out the window! ~Leo

Re: 11/24 Mannie AMPS 287, +2 358

Paws crossed for the vetty visit. Try to hold it, ok, Mannie? Hope the BP is good too. Zener is coming with the ropes but he's moving a little slowly, still sore from his fight. Happy Caturday, Michelle!
Liz

Re: 11/24 Mannie AMPS 287, +2 358

Morning Lisa ~O) ~O) ~O)
Auntie Lisa - I gots you covered! GOOD espresso coming our way, for sure! ohhhhhhhhhh...... ok on the carrier..... i will try real hard not to pee in it. I gets so nervous, ya know? i know to on the numbers thing.... I told Leo not to come for me... I will meet him, and we can head down together. more funs that way. ~~ Mannie, kitteh barista

Thanks Lisa on the vetty thing. it's more of a followup visit than anything else. The cardio man wants a BP check, though I will wonder how valid it really will be, since he will be stressed... oh well. And we so so so hope on a successful pee event! Yep too on the weather, though they did update it a few ago, and now we may get some sun this afternoon. WHOA!, and what a concept! :-D :-D

Leo - dude! You gots it. You will loves the dunes... NO MORE BACK DOOR????? oh bummer on that. I will gets you at the window then. COOL, and it is all yours? SCORE, dude! excellent on the livers! WOO HOO, I Lubs them too. See ya!! ~~ Mannie

Re: 11/24 Mannie AMPS 287, +2 358

Morning Liz ~O) ~O) ~O)

Thanks on the vetty visit. it shall be interesting. And I so hope the Nanner King can hold it.  I hope for a good BP, expect it will still be up there. I need to see what I can do to be able to check it at home. Can't be that difficult?? LOL: and famous last words....

Z - dide! You gots the ropes? Thanks man, you sure have to save me alot. You be careful OK? My bean say you sprained your leg.... No more injury, promise? See ya soon, and thanks! ~~ M

Re: 11/24 Mannie AMPS 287, +2 358

Morning Michelle and sending many good Vetty vines for Mannie's BP and potty  vines. I can just picture Mannie there trying to do the thing for the Vet Techs. I hope Mannie comes own from the stratosphere. He always seems to take heart when a dose threat is mentioned, so maybe time for a dose threat. Good luck with getting all the chores done. That is great you made a good stab at the Christmas decorating. Maybe a walk later or short hike if not too much rain.

Mannie, the Espresso was excellent as always. Thank you, and it helped me complete a mini walk. You're the best, Auntie Ann

Mannie, the dunes sounds great. I'll bring some scented lotion to remove the vetty smell. We gavn't done it in a while. Dunes sliding and hang gliding it is and a cookout with tuna bugers. I'll bring the fixins. See soon at the curb, Mags. I

Re: 11/24 Mannie AMPS 287, +2 358

Mannie what's going on dude? You are making your mambean crazy! Sorry about the crazy escalator ride you have been on, no fun! Hope the vet goes well and Mannie cooperates. I hope it doesn't screw his numbers up again. Good luck getting caught up on everything. Have a wonderful Caturday!

Re: 11/24 Mannie AMPS 287, +2 358, +6 247

Good luck at the vet today. I hope Mannie can wait and they can get the urinalysis done. Hopefully vetty stress won't make Mannie go to high.

Re: 11/24 Mannie AMPS 287, +2 358, +6 247 vet visit

247 @ +6 we are back to the yellows. I so hope that he is headed on down.... paws crossed!

Vet visit went well, I suppose. ;-) BP is still as elevated as it was when he was at the cardio man's place. So my vet will contact him and see about a course of action. I hear that normal BP should be in the 100's. expected elevations at vetty visit maybe in the 160's, due to stress. Mannie's is in the 210 range. So.... we will see what cardio man has to say and if we need to out Mannie on some BP meds too. I wish I could get a reading at home, so we could have a good number, a resting number, to know where he truly is. I may look into seeing what it would take to do that. And once again NO URINE! His bladder was so small that the vet could not really get any out of him, he was such a squirmer. It looks like he had emptied it just prior to his visit. ohmygod_smile They suggested I leave him  , I said no. SO we will try and collect some at home. I now... not sterile... but we really aren't looking for an infection, or UTI. I t was requested by the cardio man, for whatever he is looking for.... AIyyeeeee - I so hope he pees in what they sent home, makes collection easy, if only he will cooperate.   Oh sure.... this is Mannie. One says can you pee? and he says no, not today.

Hi Michelle ~O) ~O) ~O) That he is ! THX on the vetty - it was OK, but no potty there. darn it! So now we try at home, which I already know will be a futile effort, but we shall try... And me too on the numbers!! Oh Paws crossed big time on that one. SO far it seems normal, It was a short visit there so maybe all will be good.

Hi Carla - nope, no urine at the vetty - guess he was "too empty" for them to get a sample. :YMSIGH: dang it anyways! SO far the vet trip hasn't bothered him any. Hope it stays that way. :-D

Hi Ann ~O) ~O) ~O) Well vetty was so so. I guess he needed more potty vines    so now I need to try and do this at home. oh HAHAHAHAHAHAHAA on that. I was surprised that he didn't nail everything there... guess he truly did have an empty bladder!  Yup - thinking the same thing on the dose threat. Hoping today will pan out, if not... will have to up the dose. THX on today - weather has improved so I am off tot he shore in a few, and the creek - hoping to see more of the salmon run :-D
Auntie Ann :-D WOO HOO ! The Manster did good then today - my brew helped you on your walk. Excellent!! ~~ Mannie, kitteh barista

Maggie - WOO HOO! We is off to the dunes!! YAY! Hey thanks on the lotion - I so needs it. I showed them!! NO PEE from the Manster. heeheehee.... OOOOOOOOOOOOO! You got fixin's for tune burgers???? COOL! I gots some shrimps I can bring too. See you at the curb ~~ Mannie

Re: 11/24 Mannie AMPS 287, +2 358, +6 247, vet visit

So glad Mannie's numbers came down for you. Sorry about the empty bladder, I'm sure that was frustrating, but at least everyone else stayed dry! Have a great rest of the day!!!

Re: 11/24 Mannie AMPS 287, +2 358, +6 247, vet visit

These are much better numbers for Mannie today. I'm sorry about yesterday's numbers....I know it can be disheartening to get numbers you don't expect. Mannie is such a trooper about always recovering. In my eyes, he is the "recovery king"!!!

I'm glad the vet visit went well but I would seriously talk to them about starting some BP meds. The 160 in the vet's office includes vet stress. Our vets started Gus on amlodipine for high BP after a couple of visits where he was in the 180s. Because a vet tech can do the BP, maybe you can convince one from your vet's office to come check it at your house. But I'm thinking at 210, he probably needs some meds. The good thing is, if they put him on amlodipine, I've noticed no side effects at all :-D :-D Of course, with his different heart issues, they may pick a different med.

Glad Thanksgiving was a lovely day....ick on the bad weather today. Time to curl up with Mannie and a good book!

Re: 11/24 Mannie AMPS 287, +2 358, +6 247, vet visit

Well, phoey on the vetty visit. I hope they put him on a med that is as easy to give as the Plavix. I looked and monitors are $500 to $1000. I may be possible to get a vet tech to come or perhaps they would loan the meter to you?

Have you tried the Tidy Cats Breeze litter system, it makes getting a urine sample really easy, on sale at PetSmart for $29. I love ours, it's the least smelly litter box we've ever had.

I hope you get out to work off a little of you frustration.

MANNIE! good call on the dunes! Sunny and warm, perfect dunes weather! And rolling in the sand and then the wind will really get rid of that vetty smell. Ha! You showed them! Wanting to take your pee!!!! :o -- Tess

Re: 11/24 Mannie AMPS 287, +2 358, +6 247, vet visit

Hi Michelle, oh no, our potty vines didn't work. That happens; it happened one time to Mags, too! So sorry on the B/P. Mags is on the high side at the Vetty, too, but the last time at the IM her b/p was 160ish! Yes, 210 is on the high side, and I wonder how much was stress. That's a good suggestion of gtting a Vet Tech come to the house. Good luck on getting the urine sample. I guess that involves following the Manster around an out and about! :-D
Mannie, so sorry about the Vetty. I've got a really nice scented lotion, and we'll get the bad smell removed, no problem. We'll also have niptunis to make things easier for you, Mags

Re: 11/24 Mannie AMPS 287, +2 358, +6 247, +10.5 341, vet vi

Mannie, Shasta and I like your numbers sooooooooo much better today (minus those 2 in the 300's...but still better than your numbers yesterday)! However, you better start behaving at the vet and give them your urine or they'll start putting you in diapers or something crazy like that! And that totally wouldn't be Manly! Ok?! You're too handsome for that! Sending our love and purrs!

Re: 11/24 Mannie AMPS 287, +2 358, +6 247, +10.5 341, vet vi

Hmmmm, picturing Michelle, following Mannie around, with a long handled ladle. Gonna get that sample one way or another.
Sorry about the high bp, Michelle. Many of us have 'white coat' hypertension , maybe Mannie does too. I don't see why someone hasn't invented blood pressure monitors for pets, for home use, like for humans . Ya know, with tiny cuff!

Hey Mannie, how about coming down with those numbers tonight, okay?

Re: 11/24 Mannie PMPS 312, vet visit

Actually, Barb, they have but it takes a degree of skill to be able to use it correctly and is typically a two person job.

Re: 11/24 Mannie PMPS 312, vet visit

I didn't know that Marje. I was told at the clinic that it was such a chore and took a while to do it there even.

Re: 11/24 Mannie PMPS 312, vet visit

312 @ PMPS. YAY! We are down some from his +10. come on Mannie - down you go! AND... - tonight he spit out the plavix    took three times before he ate it....

Hi Jo - thanks for visiting Mannie, much appreciated!! :-D This is so true - for once the vet tech's weren't hosed, and their floor remained dry... oh well, we will win this war one way or another.  And THX: day was great.

Hi Marje - THX, we were better for a while, then back up he goes. we seem to have a little longer than "normal for him" bounce, and that vetty visit mid morning sure didn't help. They will either send him up, or down, looks like today it was up. So we hope it clears soon. -- on the BP. Yes, well aware that the 160 includes vet stress. 100 is normal, and as all can see his 210 is way outside the realm or normal. We needed to make sure that his cardio visit was or was not "white coat" hypertension, hence the check today, the delay per the cardiologists request, after the plavix was on board for a while. I will ask them for a home visit check, as with anything associated with Mannie, he has rarely followed what the guidelines say is normal, it would be ideal to have a BP check done at home in his element, where he is as he normally would be. So we will see what the cardio man has to say once my vet can talk with him, and they can treat him in conjunction with the other heart issues.

Hi Ann, and Tess - thanks for the littler info. I will for sure look into that, as the other options are, obviously, not working... enough with the hauling him up there all the time only be come back without a urinalysis. shesshhh!  Me too on the meds - I suspect that is what they will do. I will ask about having someone come and do a BP check at home. AND :o :o :o on the cost of a machine... shessh! I wonder if I could find a used one, like on Ebay or something. Need to look into this.... and thanks - went on a long walk/hike through the woods here - that always helps me get things in perspective, and remove the "errrrs!"

Hi Ann and Maggie - No.... sad to say that the potty vines did not work.   darn cat! i know - bummer on the BP, but we will do what we need to do, just waiting for the cardiologist to make the decision, in conjunction with my vet. I think so on the vet tech coming here - sure would be a good idea. And YES on the darn urine sample! so: ladle in hand... special LB. sheshhhh!

Hi Barb - YUPP! That would be me - following the manster around with a ladle. They gave me this sand stuff to use in the LB - supposed to make urine collection easy. oh sure... it requires him to pee in it. He's not a fan.  I like Ann's LB idea better. Yep, me too on the high BP. Yupp too on the "white coat" hypertension, and his cardiologist wanted ton make sure that it was or wasn't just that before putting him on meds. And I so agree! monitors at home for our kitties - all they need are tiny cuffs! :-D
Auntie Barb - OK! I SWEAR I will try. ~~ Mannie

Auntie Deborah - Me too on the numbers... so so better than yesterday. I will rry trel hard to get abck to the good stuff. My bean hope so too! huh???? diapers???? ON NO! oK oK oK. I will be good - one urine sample coming up! ~~ Mannie

Maggie - it's OK.... You are such a good friend - bring the lotion - I so don't wanna stink... OOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Yes on the niptinins!! I am so there!~~ Mannie

Tess - awesome !! I am so lad that the dunes worked out. I so lubs it there! heeheeheee.... sand rolling will work on the vetty smell, huh! I LIKES IT! and I know.... no way was I giving them my pee. no way. boy did she sure try... You guys are the best - you understand! ~~ Mannie

Re: 11/24 Mannie PMPS 312, vet visit

I doesn't take that long once they get it set up. Usually the kitty needs to sit quietly for a bit. Then they put the little. If around the base of the tail or the back paw (sometimes the front). Then they dial in the Doppler and listen as they pump up the cuff and slowly release. They will usually take 3-4 readings several minutes apart and average them. It's normally about 20 min total for Gus counting the time we just sit there quietly before they start.

Re: 11/24 Mannie PMPS 312, vet visit

Barb and Marje - i know zippo on the monitors, but do know that today the BP took a minute for them to do. The vet seemed to feel I could at home, the issue was the expense of the requirement, and would it really be worth it. I dunno. I will try and see if I can get one of the techs to do this at home.

ETA: Marje - just saw your post. They were ready for him when I got there, he was very cooperative for that part. The only thing we didn't do was the sit for a while before they tested. I'm not too sure that, for Mannie, that would have made much of a difference.

Re: 11/24 Mannie PMPS 312, vet visit

Hi guys,
Thanks so much for that wonderful espresso this morning, Mannie barista! Just what we needed for the long drive.

Michelle, sorry that there was no urine in Mannie's bladder this morning. Good luck with the "collection"! I hope that the bp thing is "office related" and that Mannie's real numbers are lower. Don't forget that he has had a stressful holiday weekend. Bgs should begin to come down now, too.

Bummer on your weather, but at least you got one good day in the weekend!

See you tomorrow,

Ella & Rusty

Yo Mannie. I'm here in the city and can't wait for our day in Central Park tomorrow. Meet ya at "our" hotdog cart!
Rusty

331 @ +2. well, looks like I will be able to go to bed on time tonight....

Hi Ella - THX, the "collection" should be interesting. I left him to his own devices for 5 minutes tonight, and lo and behold - that is when he went to the LB. Foiled yet again.   Well we try again tomorrow.... :-D Me too on the BP.I'd feel better if he had been at 160/170, and not in the 210 range... oh well,we see what the cardio man has to say. THX: I hope so on the BG's. They have revised our weather - we should have sun tomorrow, cold, but sunny. YAY!!! no rains!!!!
Auntie Ella - you is so welcome!! :-D :-D I can't wait to deliver to you tomorrow - in the BIG APPLE !! WOO HOO!!!! ~~ Mannie, kitteh barista

Rusty - I am SO STOKED! NYC tomorrow! AWESOME! see you at our hotdog cart. ~~ Mannie

Glad that the vetty visit went well; maybe not so well...no uring collection & the wonky beat rate. I will call it wonky beat rate, nobody will have a normal rate once hooked to that machine, let alone our furry babies! They are such sensitive beings. Maybe Mannie was thinking he need to give you some "reading", silly boy
Tell you about my Sandy, the smartest furry girl. She was having very irregular heart beat & the vet hooked her up to the machine. All funny rythym ; found nothing. That was 10 yrs ago. Dont worry Michelle. As long as Mannie is happy & purry, just keep an eye on him.
Have a sunny Sunday! Maybe our Mannie boy wanted to grant you the outdoor activity permit, thus those purple. ohmygod_smile

Hey Michelle...My experiences with Mario and his BP/checks are pretty much the same as Marje's with Gussie. My vet is very concerned if she sees anything over 180 in the office, since that includes the white coat syndrome. I do remember Dr Lisa saying not all that long ago that testing kitty's BP at home really isn't recommended - it's too complicated, and the accurate equipment is way too expensive for the average kitty owner....I wonder if you can do a search and find her post. At $59 a pop, I wish we could check Mario's at home, too, but I guess at this point it's really not a viable option...

One thing I can say about Mario is, after having to go for BP checks for almost 2 years now, he's very calm about it. At first, he had a lot of white coat syndrome about the whole subject, but now he's pretty mellow when he goes back for the test. He's on amlodipine as well, and we've had to adjust his dose several times. At this point, he goes back every few months for a re-check.

I assume they've checked Mannie's thyroid, right? Hypertension is often associated with hyperT....just something else to consider, but I know Mannie has had all sorts of pokes and prodding lately, so I'm guessing HyperT has probably been ruled out.

Have a great night, Michelle!

Good Evening everyone!

Hi Helen - Thanks for your Sandy story. I feel better. We will do what the cardiologist suggests, go from there. and I think so on the outdoor permit - he gave me a color that he knew I'd take off with. Well done Mannie! Yes n teh BP stuff - who knows with him... it sure was a wonky reading, that is for sure.

Hi Amy - many thanks for your recounting experiences. Yes, they have checked the thyroid, a few times and it is well within normal range. Yes on the concern with anything over 180 (well he used 160). The cardiologist wanted me to wait two weeks, from initial exam on 11/12, to recheck, after the plavix was on board, and if still elevated then they will come up with a plan/meds. Thanks too for the Dr Lisa reference, I will look for it. It is interesting that she does not recommend testing that at home. I would think that one would get a better reading at home, resting rate thing there. WOW, but can understand on the being complicated. so I have heard from others her today.. And WOW: you pay $59? They only charged me $40. I guess I should be grateful! Thanks to for filling me in on how it is with Mario. I am sure there is alot of dose adjusting to do. And thx: evening is good so far. :-D
