Previous condo

Coming down from his bounce. Giving a dose increase this morning. Last night at 4am I heard rustle rustle and he was tearing into my bag of gingerbread cookies. Dont think he got any, just ripped the bag.. but my fault for not adding them to the thanksgiving menu i posted

I am feeling disheartened this morning. Dont know if its PMS or what but I realized last night its been a year since his DX, and 8+ months since he came out of remission. He is still bouncing up and down. Somewhere I read that the likelihood of OTJ drops after 6 months and now I am sad to think he might never go OTJ again.. and I dont like all the pinks I am seeing now. I wouldnt mind him being on lantus the rest of his life but its the fact that he isnt even particularly stable.... :YMSIGH: :cry:

He had tons of energy last night but he is getting grubby again so not cleaning himself as well.

Yeah I think its PMS.

I hear you Wendy. Same here, my Rosy may be on Lantus forever and she may never experience OTJ but I know I am doing my best to help her, like what you're doing for Tiggy. The up & down is beyong our control, we can only give our best. You are not alone in this "game", hang in there.

Hi guys, so sorry to hear you are disheartened. I know the feeling. We were otj for 2 and a half years and are back again. Scrabble is finally showing some signs of improvement after almost a month but we still get pinks and reds. I would give anything to have him otj again. So just know I am here with you and totally know how you feel. Hugs, hope you have a nice day!

Hi Wendy

I understand your feelings. It's hard not to get "down" sometimes, especially if your cat
is showing visible signs of not being himself, or illness, whatever, and regulation or OTJ
seem out of reach.

As the others said, you're not alone, hang in there, it'll get better.

Hang in there woman, you are a wonderful momma bean!!! You are doing everything possible.Tiggy knows it and loves you for it.
I hope you won't feel disheartened for long. We want to fix this for our kitties. Surely there are times when we feel like there must be one more thing we could do to make our kitties all better. We look at these rainbow cycles and just sigh.

Our kitties WILL get better. they will get used to a correct dose and they will have good , well regulated cycles. and one day, God willing, they will get OTJ.

join me at the fridge for a piece of PMS and "disheartened feeling" shaking off chocolate??!!

Wendy, I'm with you as I get very discouraged too, but Mary and everyone else is right. We can't predict the future - all we can do is do our best and hope that our babies get to that OTJ. I would imagine it is very difficult since you had him in remission before, can't even imagine - but You did it once, you can do it again.

Patience pants my dear - we all need them!

Thanks for your support! I am going stronger than chocolate right now - starting on the wine. Tiggys diarrhea came back this morning and I called the vet. It went badly. There are so many IDIOT or inexperience vets out there its scary. The issue is that when Tiggy got the diarrhea out regular vet wasnt available and we got this chick straight out of school. And so it was her that called today. Heres how the conversation went roughly and hopefully you can understand why I am hitting the wine now.

Vetchick Tiggys stress of the operation caused both him AND your other cat Cookie to have diarrhea a few days later. Can you keep them apart?
Me He wasn't stressed coming home, I doubt its that. And Cookie is a stressed cat anyway - never had any diarrhea before.

Vetchick Could be irritable bowl syndrome. Could try fortiflora.
Me you really think both cats would develop IBS within 2 days of each other having never had it before? BTW He is already on Fortiflora.

Vetchick Oh - lymphoma?
Me Again you REALLY think both cats would develop lymphoma within 2 days of each other ? I think its a bacterial infection. Especially since the third cat is acting odd now

Vetchick I doubt its a bacterial infection, the meds would have cured it
Me I looked on the internet and they said it might need a longer course. OR it could be protozoal infection

Vetchick I can give you a longer course of meds but I don't want to miss anything. And where would he have gotten a protozoan infection from since they don't go outside?
Me (i was getting annoyed by this point) He developed diarrhea two days after being with you.. so maybe he caught it at yours

Me :Ok heres what we do. If Cookie develops it again, we test for bacteria and protozoas. Meanwhile lets put Tiggy back on the meds.

Vetchick wraps up call. I hit the wine. And am planning to demand my regular vet tomorrow.

Hi Wendy, Sorry you are feeling discouraged :YMHUG: . You are doing a great job taking care of Tiggy and your other kitties, and insisting on proper care instead of accepting advice you know is not reasonable. Take heart that there are cats here who went OTJ after years on insulin, and other who went back into remission after relapses. Someday the newbie vet will reflect on her cluelessness and marvel at how some knowledgable owner stood her ground for her pets and that helped her learn to be a better vet. I join you in the glass of wine. drinking09

Gabby went through a terrible time with diarrhea a couple of years ago. My vet would put her on Flagyl and Fortiflora for a week, it would clear up, and then come back a week or two later. We tested for everything and everything came back negative. We finally had Gabby on Flagyl for a month and she finally kicked whatever the culprit was.

Gabby has been diabetic for over 3 years. Realistically, her chances of remission are slim. I've seen any number of cats fly in and out of LL and there have been times when it was upsetting. What I've come to appreciate is that we are not leading in this sugar dance. We can do everything right but our kitties are in charge and they will do what they want to do despite our best efforts. It's less important whether any of our cats goes OTJ when you look at quality of life. No matter how well regulated our cats may be, what is important is that we do what is best to keep them as happy and healthy as possible.
