Yesterday Leo was the wild outlaw gas-runner kitteh! I had 4 5-gallon cans in the trunk with lots of groceries and TP, and everything shoved in so Leo still had his seat. It was a moderately icky commute. He used the litterbox 3 times, but got stressed near the end and just sat up and peed all over the seat, the fleece I had under him, and it wicked all up my work clothes on a hanger behind him. He doesn't travel well :-( He was out of sorts all night and a little twitchy this morning, but will hopefully be better later.
He woke me out of a dead sleep howling at the back door. An orange cat comes around occasionally, and they were nose-to-nose through the patio door. This cat clearly took over Leo's turf. The howling continued even as I was rubbing him! I wonder if it's the one who gave him the FIV.
Like an idiot, I didn't think about my pharmacy having no electricity. They'd not been able to fill my syringe prescription before I left, and now I have no new syringes. I've already reused two twice. I have sample DBs I got from Maryland but could find no Terumos there. I don't want to switch syringe makers right now. So, I'll use these two again, and likely have to break into the Sharps container for more that have only been used once. I will call around today to see what I can find and plan my gas usage accordingly.
Surreal driving home, crossing into areas with no power and dead traffic lights. I saw 2 open gas stations with long lines. ALL OTHER gas stations were closed with all the lights off, even with other businesses all around them with power. Like they'd completely gone out of business. I suspect these are the ones that ran out of gas and just shut down to make it clear their tanks were empty.
My gas is being well-used. DH topped of my tank since I couldn't get gas the last 80 miles of my trip, he "loaned" a can to a friend so that guy could follow DH and another guy across the border to Pennsylvania where he'd located a gas station with nearly no lines. He'll refill my cans and his own cans, and the other guys will fill tanks and cans. My FIL has our generator, which takes 5 gallons a day, so he'll get a couple of my cans. We'll take a ride down to the marina in the next day or two, because another storm is coming and we have to put a tarp over the door of the boat which was blown out. There is no gas there at all.
NJ declared gas rationing so we're to the odd plates/odd days, even plates/even days rationing starting at noon today. There are too many fights breaking out at gas station lines, people trying to cut in. Police are onsite on major highways JUST to stop gas fights.
Good Saturday to all, and vines to those struggling with Sandy, especially Roni and her family.
