Pirate Fitzel's Condo Cove

Still trying to process the Pancreatitis dx and all that means. Of course, right now I don't know all that it means. The Pirate is scheduled for a U/S on Tuesday afternoon and will officially join the Shaved Belly Club. (thank you Rhiannon for the Club name - now all we need is a logo).

Fitz has started bupe today. She had her first shot right at her +12. Didn't plan it that way, just when I got to the vet to pick up the meds and got home again. I'm not shooting the 132 as I want to see if the bupe lowers her BG and if so, by how much. Not that I'd be anxious to shoot a 132. The Pirate's been known to crash way too often from the low/mid 100's.

I won't be able to stay in the room with her while she has the u/s but I will stay and wait. I go with the kitty - I come home with the kitty. Bean Rules. I did tell the vet, however, NO aspirations of any kind - no biopsies of any kind - no matter what they find. I realize this might negate part of what the u/s is for, but I've been through the loss of several furrs through cancer and I know that the route of chemo, surgery and such is not what I want for Fitzel. She's 12 and a half years old. I want quality for her, not necessarily quantity. I'm hopeful that the u/s will show that she has a managable form of Pancreatitis and if there's anything else, well..... I'll deal with that when/if we get there.

WCR - she's still hiding a bit. She did come out for about an hour or so this afternoon, but if she saw one of her siblings, she retreated under one of the bookcases. However, now she's out and sitting with me by the 'puter. I think she might be a bit stoned from the bupe. Maybe it's too much? I got pre-filled syringes. She is out, though and with me, so I'm thinking she feels better.I know Mama Bean feels better with her near.

I also picked up an appetite enhancer and some pepsid. Right now I'm only giving her the bupe. I want to see what happens with each new med introduced into her system. If I give more than one, I won't know what caused what.

I really want to thank everyone who stopped by yesterday and the day before to give support. I feel badly that I haven't returned the visit to your condos and checked in on your kids. I'm hopeful I'll feel less overwhelmed and have more energy to stop by and say hello.

Until then, sending much love and vines to all who need them tonight.

Shai and Pirate Fitz

Always a steep learning curve around here, that's for sure. :YMSIGH:
Hope the meds start making Fizel feel better asap.
You may see the old Fitzel soon after all this plays out. Paws crossed.
:YMHUG:

It seems like a lot of kitties are prescribed too much bupe. It may not be a bad thing for the first day or so, though. One thing to keep in mind is that the larger the dose of bupe, the longer it works. The larger dose doesn't provide more pain relief -- it effects the duration of the pain relief.

Bupe by itself does not have an effect on BG. Pain can raise BG. As the bupe relieves the pain, there may be a drop in BG.

So much to learn.... but it helps you make informed decisions. It will be interesting to see if her BG's come down with the Bupe. I hope she enjoys being stoned tonight! I bet she'd love her catnip toy. It's a great idea to see the individual results of the meds. That way you know what helps and when.
Good luck on Tuesday ! Wish you could be in the room with her....why not insist? Don't worry until you know the results. I know it's easier said then done, but try.
Thinking of ya!

Sending Miss Fitzel many healing vines. Be sure that if you want or need to give an appetite stimulant, that she is not nauseous. You need to deal with any nausea before giving an appy stimulant.

Paws crossed for the U/S. I hope she will start to feel better. Are you giving her any fluids?

Dont feel too depressed about the situation. It's an initial U/S, let's wish it's nothing serious for Fitzel.
It's very common for vet to recommend U/S in HK because since they have the machine, why not use it & charge on their client? ;-) In most cases, other than a foreign obstruction (kitty ate something which caused blockage) it's a very safe situation. Dont worry, K? Fitzel can pick up your anxiety emotion & worry too!
