This morning marks Quincy's 14th cycle on a dose of one drop. This was after almost two weeks at a dose of 0.10. His AMPS numbers have typically still been blue, but barely. All PMPS numbers have been green since 2/14, and all spot checks have been green for several weeks as well. Is it time to take the training wheels off and see if Quincy's pancreas is ready to go back to work unassisted?

One potential wrinkle: A few weeks ago, Quincy had a cobalamin/folate blood test (his 1st one), and it indicated a deficiency. I am supposed to pick up his B-12 tomorrow and start giving him injections. I haven't found anything to indicate that B-12 shots can affect a cat's BGs, at least not in terms of an increase. But I wanted to mention this just in case someone has found a relationship between B-12 shots and elevated BG levels.

If it's time to give things a whirl, I would start this coming Friday. My parents are coming for a visit two weeks later, and I would love to be ending a successful trial just as they get here. I also would rather not be in the middle of a trial during their visit, as it'll be a little topsy turvy while they're here (I'm running my first marathon!)

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

ETA: I am working from home today, and planned to get a few spot checks. His +4 was 69, and I was planning on getting +7 and +10.

Hi there.. I have not noticed B12 shots interfering with BG numbers in the few times I have used it on 2 different cats.. however your experience may be different. One of my cats was OTJ at the time, the other was actively receiving insulin.

I can't comment on her readiness for OTJ trial but I will say "Great job!"

Quincy's SS is sure looking pretty. I think the pleasure of this kind of decision rests with Jill and/or Libby or Jojo if she's around. For all of the hard work they do, this is the fun stuff (other than yelling, "Shoooooooot!!")

go for it, laura! :-D
fwiw, i think you could start a trial at any time. no need to wait til friday unless it's something you want to do.
i haven't heard a thing about B12 shots interfering with numbers.

GOOD LUCK!!!

oh boy another cat on trial! Now, who's the lawyer? And how will he be found? guilty? not guilty? or even better OTJ??!!!!

(((Quincy))) Congratulations & best of luck to you both! OTJ Trial blessings abound : ) good luck on your marathon too!

congrats on the OTJ trial! When are you starting?

I think I want to wait until Fri morning, in part because I want to see what happens tomorrow when Quincy gets his first B-12 shot and in part because I'm scared! nailbite_smile I know it's just a *trial* and it's called that for a reason, and that it doesn't undo all Quincy's progress if it doesn't work out on the first trial. But I just want it sooooooooooooooooo badly! I'm sure I'm not the only one who's made a lot of sacrifices to give their cats the care they need and deserve, but the possibility of losing my 12-hour leash AND having a happy, healthy Quincy here with me is just so amazing, it brings me to tears.

And what do I do today, on the brink of Quincy's trial but spill brown sugar all over the kitchen floor? I must have cleaned the kitchen floor 4 times today. I did some cooking (big mistake!) and Quincy was all over that. Every time I turned around, he seemed to be smacking his lips or licking the floor. I absolutely have never encountered a cat so fixated on food as he is!

Today's numbers so far:
AMPS~101
+4~69 (snack after test)
+7~85 (snack after test)
+10~93 (snack after test)
PMPS~78

Thanks everyone for your input and well wishes!
