Evening LL! Well spoke to vet early this am & she told me she has never in all her practicing as a vet, known anyone who is So Aware of their animal as I am--Moonie's BW was basically Good--BUT
Her T4 test the normal high was 40 & I think she tested this time= 40.1
and the T3 test-high normal is 50 and Moonie tested 51 this time!! We absolutely JUST CAUGHT IT AT IT"s Very Beginning!! We will be using the transdermal gel Methiamizole( tapazole) which is compounded and will be sent to us. She will be getting a very lowest dose once a day, as she is small and vet feels this will keep Moonie in check- and will manage this illness..
-There can be some side efffects, so she will be well monitored by the vet--and often..

I am SO HAPPY this is what she has and Nothing that Starts with a C, and L, or an M!!!!!!!!!!
Today is the Jewish New Year and we are celebrating that our Baby has something that can be managed--
It is a day to be Thankful--So even though we arent with our family tonite, we are with our nucleus of our family, Me, Moonie & DH--Steak for everyone!!!!!!!!!
Now I will get an education in Hyper-Thyroid!! Hugs & Love from us--Thanks for the love & prayers..

Re: 9/16 Moonie AMPS 134, Has Hyper-T

Sorry she had to come up with any new issues but it sounds like you aren't distressing about it.
Proactive.
And caught so very early that hopefully you can make a difference now that you are aware of it.

Enjoy your steaks and family!

Dear Roni,
It is so good that you caught it so early and that a plan is in place. I know that all will be fine. Moonie is a trooper and she will continue to be. Good job!

Happy New Year! This is a good night to celebrate Moonie's health. Have a lovely evening with your kitty and your wonderful DH.

Lots of love and BIG HUGS!

I'm sorry to hear that Moonie has this illness, however, I'm very glad to hear that it can be managed. I truly hope that she will make a full and speedy recovery from this.

Her AMPS is a nice #, though. :-D Hoping for lower ones from her very soon!

Re: 9/16 Moonie AMPS 134, Has Hyper-T

Roni, I've been waiting for your condo and so glad you have a diagnosis, and you know it's treatable. I am so happy for you that it's not any of those beginning with the letters you stated. You sure were right on top of things with Moonie. I admire you for it, and obviously your Vet is impressed, too. I don't even know much about Hyper-T or how to recognize it, so much to learn about our kitties. Happy New Year to you and DH and Sweet Moonie. Lots of love and hugs from us.

Thanks so much Sienne & Ella for the links for hyper-t.. I will read them tomorrow & find out the info they have for us...We will face this armed with knowledge and hope the meds will be ok for her to tolerate..We feel the vet has a good handle on this & we will as well.
Thanks to you all for your constant support..BBL

Hi Roni!

It's great that you caught this so fast! That saved Moonie a lot of discomfort and probably damage! You're such a good mom to be so tuned in to her. :-D I'm sure she's going to be just fine now. The thyroid gland is very easy to control as long as you take your medicine so get her meds right away and she will start to get normalized again. That's very common in older cats.

I'm glad that was the only thing found and it was still so mild. Talk to you later. Have a good night.

The hardest part of hyperT with my civvie Daffy was finding the right dose. She gets oral meds, so maybe transdermal is a bit easier to tweak.

I've been praying for a good outcome for Moonie, and glad that it's a relatively simple condition to treat.

Hi Roni, Hi Moonie! Sorry to hear Moonie has Hyper-T, but, like everyone else, glad it is something manageable. My civvie Shnookie has it as well. He actually tested only in the "grey" area and is on a low dose of the methamizole tablets. He gets 1/2 tab twice daily, and I just break the half in half and put in his food. The end of this month will be 6 months on the meds for it, and he'll go in to get re-evaluated. He also has a heart murmur, and getting the Hyper-T under control has improved that as well (slightly, at the 3 week mark of methamizole) He doesn't know he is sick, tho, and shows no clinical symptoms from either, and that's what's important.

I love your attitude to see today as a celebration - it sounds like you were pretty worried. Kudos to you, and Happy Jewish New Year!

Well thank goodness you know what's going on, and as Sienne has written here many times "knowledge is power"! You vet seems on top of things and very appreciative of what a good bean you are for Moonie. The transdermal gel sure seems more manageable than any treatment by pill or needle! We will send lots of healing vines that getting the right dose is sweet and simple. Hugs to you and Moonie! :YMHUG:

I'm so glad you have the answer...it is definitley manageable!! It can be tricky getting the dose right, but Moonie is in awesome hands! I think I mentioned before...be sure to talk to your vet about monitoring her blood pressure, as HyperT and high BP can go hand in hand.

Are you getting the gel from Drs Foster and Smith? I found that they definitely have the best price, and if you order more than 10 syringes at once, there is a price break.

Keep us posted - hugs from us!

You're such a smart mama bean!!!! Love to hear that you guys caught it early and she is clearly in great hands between you and your vet! You're right, it's definitely a time for celebration!!! dancing_cat dancing_cat dancing_cat

Hope you guys have a great night!

Good night, Deborah & Shasta

I am SO HAPPY this is what she has and Nothing that Starts with a C, and L, or an M!!!!!!!!!!

Whew! I couldn't agree more!!!! Happy Dance!!!

Check with some of the old pharmacies around you and even some of the grocery pharmacies - there's still pharmacies that compound. We even have one in the little town of 20,000 fairly close to us! They compound enalapril (heart med) for Scruffy....

BIG HUG!!!!

Moonie is still Moonie, with just a little bit of Hyper T. All very treatable and it sounds like you have a great plan going forward.

What were the signs that you saw that make you suspect Hyper T and notice it so early? One of the possible longer term side effects of SRT is HyperT so it's something I've got to keep a watch for.

Have a great night, Moonie's numbers are still looking good!

Great news! I've used Wedgwood pharmacy and they are very good.

Between having the MMI compounded as a flavored oral liquid and the transdermal gel, I preferred the oral liquid. But I believe the gel has less incident of making kitty sick.

Good luck....the hyper t group in yahoo is good one.

(((Roni, Moonie and Family)))

Ronie, you're a rockstar! What a fantastic attitude you have, and paired with your very special Moonie-ESP, that's one lucky kitty!! I'm sorry you had to have a diagnosis, but along with everyone, I'm so relieved that it's one that is followed by "...but we can treat it"! Hooray!

Happy Rosh Hashanah!
Hugs and love,
Jane

Hi Roni,

Sending you, Moonie and fam GIGANTIC hugs! Sorry to hear about the dx but I'm glad that it is treatable and it sounds like there is a plethora of support and resources to help you care for your sweet baby. I hope the treatment helps to make Moonie feel better soon.

Shana Tova to you and yours!
