HAPPY FURSDAY!!!

Another gorgeous hint-of-fall day! I'm dragging this morning, didn't sleep well. Wanted to sleep with the windows open to enjoy the night air, but the CRICKETS were LOUDER than I have EVER heard!! About 2am I conceded defeat and closed the windows. Need to get over it - much to do today, then...TACOS tonight!

Doug covered the +4.75 feeding before leaving for work. When I got up, I found Oreo scarfing down Hershey's food...and MIRALAX! Hershey slept nearby as Oreo's head was in his bowl for over 5 minutes. :o I guess I need to be sure to keep the way cleared to the LB today?! Jessica said maybe he likes the taste of Miralax...could be...When Ginnie was little, she was taking Kaopectate and her babysitter said she had to hide the bottle or a boy there would drink it...I don't even want to think of the consequences he suffered...

Today marks 8 months Hershey has been on insulin and 3 months on Levemir. Some days he seems so close to regulation and others days...But, to compare the way he looks and feels to 8 months ago...there's just no comparison. Then, I would stroke his bony, greasy, dander-covered body and cry because I could see him wasting away. Now, he's soft and fluffy, has gained weight (Although he's still having trouble holding onto it and is still bonier than he was. Wonder if his hips will ever fill out...), plays some and even chases/wrestles with Oreo some. He's getting there...and that makes my heart SMILE!!! Thank you to everyone who has helped get him to where he is today :-D

Hope y'all are having a SUPER day -

Libby (& Hershey, too!)

Hi Libby!

I agree, today's numbers are the result of yesterday's run of greens. But as far as bounces go, not bad at all. I just looked at his first days on Prozinc way back when.... those were some bounces. It would appear that Hershey has always been a fan of the drama, as he went diving four out of the first five days he was on Prozinc!
I remember when y'all first came on the board, and looking back on it now, you were much "calmer" than most new members that join. Maybe not from where you were sitting, but from where I was sitting, I remember thinking "wow, they aren't really all freaked out with these red to green dives!" My favorite memories of those days were the "laps around the island" exercise routine. :-D

When Ginnie was little, she was taking Kaopectate and her babysitter said she had to hide the bottle or a boy there would drink it...I don't even want to think of the consequences he suffered
LOL, when I read that, all I could think was "what was WRONG with that kid? He must be the only person alive that LIKES the way Kaopectate tastes?" :o

Hope that Oreo soon learns the lesson that "just because it tastes good, that doesn't mean it's good for you" on the Miralax!

Have a great day!
Carl

Hello!!! I haven't visited LL much in a while, but had to pop in and see how Hershey is doing. I see some things on his SS that indicate that you are starting to really understand how Hershey wants to use this insulin.

I like that you are trying the 3x below 50 method, because reducing for every under 50 number didn't work very well for Hershey. I also see that last time Hershey got a reduction, you decided to shoot through the bounce. It looks like that helped too. The next thing I would probably try is next time he gets a reduction, try reducing by a smaller increment to see if he can hold that better. I realize I just suggested that you find an increment smaller than 0.15, and I'm sorry! Hershey seems pretty sensitive to drops, so maybe a smaller reduction would be easier for him to handle. I do see why you reduced by a little larger increment last time, because it looks like you had a pretty hard time bringing his numbers up on 9/2. Reducing by drops is a more aggressive approach, but you test enough, you seem to understand the action of the insulin in Hershey, and you can be trusted to keep on top of feeding if you do get numbers you're not expecting. Just a thought.

OT, I had to laugh at your noisy crickets! I have a screened porch off my family room, and when I am home I always have the door open because the kitties love it out there. Last night when I closed the door to go to bed, I actually caught myself sighing in relief when it got quiet! I hadn't realized how loud it was until I closed the door. Sometimes when I turn the TV on the next day, I realize I had it turned up super loud so I could hear it over the crickets. LOL!

Re: 9/13 Hershey AMPS(271) PMPS(165) 8moInsulin/3mo LEV

Hey, Carl - Always good to see you. :-D After your note, I went back and reviewed the beginning of his SS, too, and was reminded of all of those ugly numbers. And, the on-going drama that is HERSHEY

Thank you for your kind words. I did feel pretty calm, even in the lower numbers, thanks to y'all. I never felt alone and learned so much!! There was that one night, you may recall, when Kim was holding my hand and he kept dropping. I had Doug on one computer looking up the closest ER and I was on the other computer posting. I had already gotten dressed, packed a cooler bag for Doug and me and was getting together the hypo kit, cash, debit card, etc, ready to head out the door after one final test. And, he was rising! :-D

Ah, laps around the island. Sometimes I miss those...every once in a while he'll go once around, but then gives me this look like - enough! Feed my face!!

Yeah, I wondered how in the world the Kaopectate kid could stand the taste. I don't know if Oreo learned his lesson today or not, but he sure ought to feel lighter!!

Hey, Libby - I've missed you!! I was actually going to PM you tonight to see how you are. :-D Thank you for the kind words of encouragement!

An increment smaller than .15? Thank goodness for the calipers!! Yes, I was trying to figure out how much to reduce by. We tried the full .25u, but that didn't take. Then, the .15u and that didn't take, either. I guess .1u is next. Thank you for taking the time to help us figure this out. If Hershey would just be more forthcoming, maybe it wouldn't be so complex! ;-)

Glad you agreed crickets can be loud! Doug was sleeping through it last night and seemed surprised I was hearing them! :YMSIGH:

The first thought I had when I read about the laps around the island back in PZI was “wow, this woman has incredible patience trying to exercise a cat!!!”
You guys should feel really good about the progress you have made in a short time Libby. The whole cat report is the most important and if Hershey is playing with Oreo, he must feel pretty good bcatrun_gif
Good on you, your fam and all your fur kids! Great job on all accounts! :-D

*clearing the way to the LB*
Hi Libby.
Oh boy, I hear you on the crickets. I too am surprised at the quiet when I close the windows. I don't realize I'm hearing them until it gets suddenly quiet.
For me, it's also the Peepers in the Spring. Holy cow, how can something so small (about an inch or so).....make so much noise.
I have to admit I like the little froggies :-D

Libby, I'm so glad Hershey looks better now, then when he was first diagnosed. Doesn't it feel good to see his beautiful black fur, compared to back then? You are doing an excellent job with him :-D

Hey, Donna - I don't know if it was patience or just being a little nuts. ;-) Thanks for the kind encouragement! Sometimes when it seems like we're getting nowhere, I remember how frail he was less than a year ago. I try not to dwell on how bad I (still) feel that I didn't take him to the vet sooner. But, he seems to have forgiven me...it's much harder to forgive myself...

Hey, Rhiannon - Thanks. And, the meme looks like Hershey! :o

Hey, Barb - Yes, I think Oreo is 'cleaned out' now. ;-) Thanks. YES! it does feel good to see him doing so much better!

+7.5 (223) CLEARLY - Hershey got his directions mixed up! Sure had hoped to see a little green this cycle... :YMSIGH:

Re: 9/13 Hershey PMPS(165)+4.5(125) +7.5(223)8moInsulin/3mo

Hershey's just catching his breath!

Crickets? I live in the city. I'd love to hear crickets. I'll trade. You can have my sirens and I'll take your crickets.

Re: 9/13 Hershey PMPS(165)+4.5(125) +7.5(223)8moInsulin/3mo

  Sienne - We live in the city and have crickets AND sirens!  Actually, we live a couple of blocks from the volunteer fire dept and hear that go off regularly. Rarely do we hear police sirens.

Re: 9/13 Hershey PMPS(165)+4.5(125) +7.5(223)8moInsulin/3mo

Hershey had a pretty good day today, just not too green...Those days are fine, as they line up the good next few days that are coming  Moonie used to not hold her reductions...Now , she is on such a tiny dose, it's ridiculous, but she was laways a pretty low dose kitty--Dont look at my SS!! It stopped in 7/12 but I swear I will fill it in!!!
Love the crickets, they signal fall is coming here in L.I.~~ that little fall chill usually comes with them, and we are right near the ocean, so they are nautical crickets
Have a good night! You are doing great~~Hugs & love from us!

Hi Libby & Hershey,
Congrats on your progress! :-D :-D

I love the sound of the crickets. I also love the sound of the locusts. Both are harbingers of fall, my favorite season. We have had some cold nights and the crickets have been subdued. I also like it when one cricket is cricketing and you walk close to it and it stops.

Have a good evening and keep up the good work.

Ella & Rusty

I agree on congrats on your progress. Making the decision to move Hershey to lev was a great one!! He's doing so much better and you should be thrilled with all you have learned. He's looking great!

Re: 9/13 Hershey PMPS(165)+4.5(125) +7.5(223)8moInsulin/3mo

Hey, Roni - Thanks for visiting us today and for the heads up; I won't look at your SS! ;-) I couldn't keep mine up-to-date if I didn't fill it in as I test. Nautical crickets! Thanks for the hugs, too, they're especially appreciated after this awful AMPS! blech!!

Hey, Ella - Thanks for coming over and for the congrats! I usually love the sound of crickets, too, but last night they were incredibly loud! Jessica said they were just serenading me. hmm...don't know that I've ever heard locusts...

Hey, Marje - I've been missing you; glad to see you're getting your strength back! Yes, ma'am, I'm sooo happy Hershey switched to Lev. You may recall it happened kind of on a fluke. He was nearing the end of his first vial of ProZinc and the receptionist told me the vet said just to let her know what I wanted her to prescribe. (She's never had a patient on Levemir. Doug said it was just because she didn't want to have to deal with me. But, I'm hoping that wasn't the case.) And, yes, I am thrilled with all I've learned. I wouldn't even have known to suggest a change if not for this place and y'all answering the many MANY questions I've asked since we joined. :-D :-D
