Greetings and welcome back, LL!
What with yesterday's somewhat troubling FDMB-outage, we never got to post a 22nd-July Condo, but here's the one from the day before: Karre's 21st July Condo
I suspect it might take a day or so for everyone to get back into the swing of things - good luck all round with that! I very much hope there weren't too many kitties in crisis that were left to fend for themselves. I'll check around on Health in a bit, too. For now, here's the overview of Karre's numbers:
21st July AMPS 4.9/88 --- Shot 0.25u
(+2.75) 6.4/115
(+3) 6.2/112 --- Blue, albeit a dropping blue, at Karre's normal nadir... Not so great. Maybe Mr. P will come to the rescue?
(+4) 5.2/94 --- Hmm. Karre's nadir is typically around (+3). So Lantus action would be slowly waning. Was this Mr. P pitching in?
(+5) 5.0/90 --- Well it certainly *looks* like this is Mr. P helping out...
(+6) 5.5/99 --- And up a bit.
(+10) 4.9/88 --- And down again. Sheesh.
(+11) 5.0/90
PMPS 4.7/85 --- Shot 0.25u
(+1) 4.9/88
(+2) 4.8/86
(+3) 4.7/85 --- Green green green...
22nd July AMPS 5.5/99 --- Shot 0.25u
(+1) 5.0/90
(+2) 5.0/90
(+3) 4.8/86
(+6) 5.5/99 --- Mid-cycle rise. Another inverted curve?
(+10) 5.7/103
(+11) 5.2/94
PMPS 5.3/95 --- Shot 0.25u
23rd July AMPS 4.6/83 --- Shot 0.25u
(+2) 5.1/92
So we're still puzzling over Karre's SS. He's had four AM-cycles in the past few days that suggest inverted curves. Back in 2008, even though back then he also showed blue BGs here and there, a succession of inverted curves was taken as a sign that Karre was ready for a dose reduction. Here's what we're gleaning from the SS so far:
- Karre's BG range over the past week is 4.6 - 6.5 (that is, 83 - 117). His lowest-ever BG so far on this 2nd stint on Lantus was 4.1/74.
- When he does *just* drift up into the blues, he's normally no more than 5 or so points above the thin green line, as it were.
- Regarding the Barely-Blue numbers: there are factors such as metre variance, small blood samples etc. just to bear in mind.
- The blue BGs he has shown over the past week overall are dropping in height - numbers there creeping down, not up.
- The clearest recent inverted curves happened on the 18th and 20th of July, although the curves in between and after do also suggest albeit late-cycle inversion-type patterns.
- If the occasional blue BGs were a symptom of "numbers creep[ing slowly up and up, i.e. too little insulin", an AMPS like today's is very unlikely.
- What we're *not* seeing are numbers below 4.0/72, i.e. the lower green BGs he showed habitually in 2008 (though even back then he never once earned dose reductions via dropping below 2.8/50. His lowest-ever BG was 2.9/52, and on average he mostly stayed around the 70s/80s.
- Given his range of BGs and curve-shapes, there are clear signs that both his liver and his pancreas are actively and repeatedly participating in managing his blood sugar, which to us suggests that the pancreatitis flar is overcome and the pancreas has healed at least to a good degree, enabling it to pitch in with insulin.
This dose has had a fair chance at settling in (as today is the 8th day on 0.25u), and it looks like it has. True to form, within standard "settling period" of the first three days on this dose, Karre began showing inverted curves. Karre has a history of typically *not* dropping much lower than his average range - instead, he shows readiness for reductions in other ways, notably including inverted curves (Karre's Reduction History Condo). His numbers are all in the normal range. His pre-shots, overall, are staying steadily green, and here and there showing that they're gradually lowering. We're going to give him another day and night on this dose and hope for an undeniable request for a reduction - if such a thing there be  Then we'll revisit the question of his dose.
Happy cycling, everyone!
Jane
ETA: Thanks Marjorie and Sienne for the input of the dosing issue! Still watching this space  Many thanks as always for all the visits and support in Karre's condo - a special thanks to LL-oldtimers Linda & Bear Man and Michelle & Doodle for stopping in! Always lovely to see you posting. Off to make breffis and then condo-rounds.
