Yesterday, I drove to Boulder because they seem to have the only store in the area with some of the Greenies duck and pea pill pockets left. While I was there, I started talking to one of the store's employees who has an FD cat. She started taking care of this cat several months after he'd been dx'd and he was in really bad shape. She said the previous caregiver (for lack of a better word) was not doing anything to treat the diabetes and the cat was skin and bones.

Due to her lifestyle/philosophy, she doesn't give him insulin or test him but has been giving him this natural remedy they sell in the store called GlucoEnsure. She said shortly after she started him on this, he put on weight and has been doing extremely well on it for over two years now.

I was wondering if any of you have heard of this product or have delved into natural remedies to see if they helped treat the diabetes, e.g. lower the insulin requirement, stabilize the BG levels. I'm assuming not but just wanted to ask. I would never think to take Jinx off insulin but I'm not opposed to giving a natural remedy a shot if I think there might be a chance it could help. I still need to educate myself on the ingredients but here's a link to the product in case anyone is interested -

Re: 7/18 Jinx PMPS 369, natural remedies?

There was another member (Boo/Vidya) who used a homeopathic remedy, Mellit, with her cat. It contains some of the same ingredients as the product you linked. I have no experience with using these sorts of products. My concern with supplements is much the same as it is with supplements for human consumption -- often they are not manufactured under highly standardized conditions.

I really appreciate your input, Sienne. That's definitely a risk you'd have to take with using a remedy like this.

Do you happen to know if Vidya noticed any kind of difference in insulin requirements and/or BG levels while Boo was taking that supplement?

Boo wasn't here for long. He pretty much went straight into flat green numbers on the lantus. I think she started the natural remedy at the same time or very shortly after. Most natural remedies take a few weeks to start to take effect so whether or not it helped who knows but, based on Boo's response to lantus I think he would have gone OTJ with or without it.

You could make some enquiries with the company to learn more about their manufacturing processes and also ask about using it in conjunction with insulin as I note they are just marketing it as a preventative. Of course that may be for legal reasons or whatever but worth asking I think.

Scritches to Jinx.

Thank-you, Serryn. I'm going to call the company and see what I can find out. I appreciate the advice and I hope you had a great day!
