I am limited to my phone right now. We had a Gustnado hit us at 1 am this morning and the power has been out since. Winds were around 120 for about half and hour with a lot of swirling. We lost 3 trees. They were twisted and thrown about 50 feet in our backyard. All we could do was watch as our patio furniture, plants, plant stands, etc were thrown everywhere. Our neighborhood is a mess right now with trees blocking the roads. We are fine and the house is fine. Fur babies are good but getting hot with temps in the 90's today. Tarragon is super clingy which is understandable. I'm sure we've lost everything in the fridge but haven't opened it to see. Tulsa as a whole is ok but we were the lucky location to get the worst of it.

I will try and check back later but am running on cell battery and emotional fumes at the moment.

Oh Melissa! We're happy to hear you are all safe. I can understand the mess, my mom had a huge tornado go through her neighborhood last year. We'll be sending vines and prayers for lots of helpers your way.

Poor T-man, he doesn't even like normal storms. Glad to hear you are safe.

As long as you do not open the refrigerator or freezer things will stay cold longer. The insulation is good as long as you don't let the cold air out and the hot air in. Open and close as quickly as possible if you need to get in.

I'm glad you guys are OK. Poor Tarragon. Give him some scritches for me.

We only opened the fridge to get out the insulin. We keep old soda bottles filled with water in the fridge and both freezers just in case. We learned that when we lost power for 6 days a few years ago. DH fit out the cooler and put a few of the bottles in it and put the insulin in there. I put it in a dark inner room closet so I am hoping that will keep it ok.

Wow, Melissa, glad you are all okay; sounds very scary. Please stay safe and sending calming vines to Tarragon. Hope Turnup and Charlie also not too scared but understandable. ((Hugs))

Things can always be replaced--You CANT!!!! Glad you are all OK!!
120 mph is an AWFUL AWFUL WIND!!! Prayers for you & all in your area for return of the power, and that
no lives were lost!! Poor kitties they just dont understand all this--LOve you & HUGS from us!!!

I've never even heard of a gustnado!!! The speed of those winds sound tornado-like to me!! We routinely get 50 mile per hour winds and those cause some serious damage. I can't even IMAGINE 120 miles per hour. I'm so glad you're all safe and didn't sustain any damage to your house!!! Poor Tarragon!! I know Champ would have been completely FREAKED. He hates the sound of loud wind!!! Take care of yourselves!!

T, you are doing great for having such a scary night. Everyone is ok, that is the most important thing. Yikes, that must have been so scary. Thinking of you as you deal with the cleanup. That's too bad to lose the trees.

The insulin is staying cool so that is good. Still no power and it was 98 today with heat index over 100. It's getting pretty warm in the house. Thanks heavens we got new windows and there has been a little breeze anyway. No word from the electric company. It says 1,590 still without power. Lucky us.

Melissa, I'm so sorry you still don't have power! That must have been so scary! Thank goodness you're all okay. I hope you find a way to stay comfortable and get some sleep tonight. I've been through multiple days without power and know how trying it can be. The main thing is that you're all ok though. It's too bad about the trees but everything else can easily be replaced.

If need be, you can always run out for some ice for the insulin and some battery operated fans. I hope you have battery run lamps. I never heard the term gustnado either. :-D

I'm glad that you,T and the family are ok. Those strong gusty winds and destruction of your foliage must have been really scary. I hope your power comes back on soon. Hang in there:)
 
Woohoo! Power is back on. It was 84 in here and I was just starting to get worried about trying to sleep. As soon as the AC came on all three fur babies ran to the vents. Thank you all for your thoughts. It's been a rough 24 hours.

Gustnadoes are mainly in the plains. "A gustnado is a violently rotating vortex in contact with the ground, and for this reason it is like a tornado. Although similar to a tornado, a gustnado is given a special name because it develops in a different way than a classic super cell tornado. A super cell tornado forms from a long lasting and rotating thunderstorm called a super cell. However, a gustnado occurs on a gust front. A gust front is the leading edge of gusty winds that are produced from downdraft winds in a thunderstorm.

Here's what happens; Downdraft winds come crashing down towards earth out of a thunderstorm. The downdraft winds spread outward upon hitting the land causing a strong rush of wind at the surface. It is along this rush of wind that rotation may develop and a gustnado might form. The gustnado's rotation starts from the surface and spins up."
 
I'm glad you and all of the family are safe. I'm sure the clean up will take a while but that is secondary to knowing that everyone you care about are unharmed. Give T a few scritches from us.

Wow Melinda, I never heard the term before. I'm glad you got your power back. I have frozen jugs and blocks of ice in the freezer, but never thought of just keeping lots of water cooling in the fridge when storms threaten.
I'm just glad your'e all safe.
How smart of kitties to run to ac vents.
 
Oh Melissa, that must have been so scary. (Thanks for the definition of Gustnado!!). I'm so glad that you all are OK and that your power is back on. And so sorry that you lost 3 trees. Have you ever heard of Frio insulin wallets? They keep insulin cool and safe in 100 degree weather and are activated with just plain water. Here's a link. I have one. Have never had to use it, but have tried it out and it works fine. It keeps insulin at temps. somewhat warmer than the 'fridge, but still safe. Claudia (cjleo) has a friend who treked the Himalayas keeping his insulin safe in a Frio. Check out the site. If you are unsure which model wallet to buy, call them. They are very knowledgeable.

Melissa, I'm so glad to hear that everyone is fine. {{{{{HUGS}}}}} I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of power, though, but am glad to hear that it's back up and running. How is everything over there? I can truly understand why Tarragon would be clingy. I'm sure that it was as frightening for him as it was for you. Hope everything is as normal as can be where you're at. I'm going to watch the news tonight, me thinks.

Melissa, I am just now catching up on condos. I can't believe what you have gone through in the last 24 hours. How scary for you! Glad the power is back on and everyone is safe. Hugs to you and your family this evening.
 
wow, that sounds really scary. i'm so glad you're all ok. amy said something in trixie's condo about you and my heart dropped thinking perhaps tarragon was sick.

had no idea that was going on in tulsa - this morning i called my cousin in broken arrow, didn't reach her and now i'm wondering if she was caught in that too.

give an extra pet to our little furry buddy tonight. just happy it's over. cat_pet_icon :YMHUG:
 
Hooray for the power! That takes a big worry off your mind and I'm sure it makes thins a great deal easier too. Idon't blame the furbabies for heading to the vents!
 
Melissa, just read through your condo. I'm so glad you, your family and the fur babies are all ok. Glad it's over and you've got your power back. That must have been quite a scare!
