Daphne is almost all green so far, (anti jinx). I gave her the nighttime +9 snack of 1 tsp. of EVO. Should have gotten a +10 today, to see what it was because of yesterdays high of 165, but forgot.

I also weighed her last night and she lost 2lbs. since 3/8. :o I don't think we were giving much less food. We were going to start, but then the vet said to leave her at 15lbs., so not sure why she lost weight. I'll keep a close eye on this.

I was wondering how weight loss affects numbers. I haven't seen much research here on weight. I'll look outside this site and see what I find. I would think it would lower the numbers, but I wonder if there would be a lot of bouncing first.

Re: 3/28 Daphne AMPS 100, +4 55, +5 72, +9 84,

not sure the weight loss would particularly affect numbers, but if she's eating less it would. although a cat in higher numbers does eat more and still can be losing weight.

do you have any idea why she'd be losing weight? that is quite a bit.

very very nice run of numbers for the little girl - again!!! she appears to be settling in on these green numbers, barb. and in fact, did you notice that her amps numbers the last 4 days are all lower than last week's?

eta - does she want to eat more food than she's getting? 2 lbs in 20 days is concerning - is this on a home bathroom scale or a baby scale? how is she otherwise - behavior and all?

Yes, a bit strange on the weight issue. My other cat years ago, lost a lot of weight when she was undiagnosed. Daphne never did lose much weight before her dx.

Oh, and Julie, I've been feeding a +9 at night, and it seems to be doing the trick with it kicking in her pancreas, just a bit, to get those AM numbers down.

I just purchased this scale (I'll try and past it here). I really like it, it has a big base and goes as low as 2lbs., so I'm able to put Daphne right on it. So the first time she was on, she was 15lbs.

I only weighed her once with this 13lbs., so I'm going to weigh her again, and see what I get.
Otherwise she is acting normal and normal appetite.

I hope Daphne's weight loss is nothing serious. I'm curious, too, about the type of scale you used. Let us know if you find out anything new, ok?

Ok, I just weighed Daphne again, and she is 14.4lbs. So its not so bad now, only .6 loss. Don't know if the scale was off that day or what. I'll just have to keep an eye on her now. I'll also go back and look at her notes/snacks :?:

I also used my son's weights and I think the scale is .4lbs high. I don't know that much about scales and their accuracy. If they are anything like the meters, well, I guess we will have to buy 5 scales and get weighed on each everyday  , like I do sometimes with my meters, they can be off by 20 points at times.

Here is the scale at amazon. I really love the big platform and extra large numbers w/backlight. It is for people, but Daphne fits very well on it.

cool scale. i wonder, though, if it is made for people if it might not be as accurate in small numbers. i'm a little relieved that she hasn't lost 2lbs in 20 days!

if she's doing well otherwise, just celebrate these awesome numbers. oh - and i did see you made notes about the +9 snack in your spreadsheet - way to go. those little bits of info can be very handy!

and her behavior is pretty normal? you're not seeing anything to make you think she doesn't feel good?

Very nice numbers...looks like hte +9 snack is doing her some good! Hopefully the weight thing is really just inconsistency with the scale. I know our own bathroom scale can range as much as 5lbs for us beans.

Have a great evening!

I'm glad to hear it doesn't look like she has lost that much weight. I use an infant scale http://www.amazon.com/Salter-Electronic-Baby-Toddler-Scale/dp/B00009KX5U/?tag=felinediabetesfdmb-20 for J.D. Look at the pictures in the link, 3 of the 7 pictures are of cats being weighed. It is easy to use and has a back light, and goes down to ounces. I think J.D.'s last weight was 13 pounds 15.5 ounces. I do find that his weight fluctuates a little. Like from 13lbs 11.5oz to 14lbs 0.5oz and it probably has to do with what he's eaten and what's currently in his belly.

Otherwise, lovely numbers for Miss Daphne

Hi Barb,
Very nice cycle for Daphne today. I'm glad she didn't lose 2 lbs. in 3 weeks! That would set off alarm signals. Probably the human scale is not calibrated well in the low numbers. I use a baby/pet scale, too, and Rusty is always within a 2 oz. margin. I think a lot of weighing has to do with when you weigh (time of day; before or after eating), and what surface you put the scale on. I always use the same spot on the floor and try for the same time of day each week (we weigh once a week). Don't put your scale on a rug! Here's the data on the scale Rusty uses, the My Weigh Ultrascale MBSC-55:

Have a great evening,

but don't breathe in when you get on the scale and scare your mom ok!

I told her I tried that and it doesn't work

Thanks everyone for the great information on scales, names, and kinds. I just figured, when I purchased this one, it could be used for everyone since it went down to oz, but you all are probably right. We had such an old one I needed to replace it anyway, so now I'll get a special one for Daphne. She is such a sweet heart, just goes along with anything I do with her, she sits on the platform of the scale like it was her special place :-D

Dyana, and Ella, I had a chance to look at both scales, and both look good. I think its funny, they show more pictures with cats then with babies. The kitties look awfully comfy in them.

I told DH about this scale info., and of course as usual, he tells me things after the fact. He is very intelligent, (at least one of us is), but doesn't talk a lot, and if I don't ask for his opinion on something, he won't tell me. So over dinner tonight, he explained all the technical reasons why I need a baby/pet scale. Pretty much what you guys already told me, but he really can dissect issues for sure. I try to stay with him on things, but I do find myself drifting @-)
