Leo's Last Condo

Good Morning LL,

I'm back with my kitty :-D I picked up my baby and brought him back home last night, he had another good car ride and was a very good boy. I weighed him as soon as we got home and he's gained back all the weight he lost the week he was with me last  I had a conversation with my dad and basically gave him an earful.....he didn't try denying anything...........sigh. They went thru a huge big bag of Purebites Chicken treats and another big bag of Purebites Whitefish treats, all Leo's weight gain was probably in treats.  arghhhhhhhh!!!!

We had a good test, shoot and feed this morning and Leo's diet is back in full effect here, i'm a tougher cookie than DGpa is when it comes to crying, hungry kitties. I have fully decided to switch Leo to Lev after seeing his AMPS this morning, it seems like he just can't surf his yellows and blues into his next shot and always shoots sky high. I've just got to wait until i can speak to his vet and try to convince her that its a good idea.....wish us luck.

Holiday now for me for 3 weeks......YIPPIE! I told Leo about it, he was probably thinking "oh great she's going to starve me for 3 straight weeks now :-x "
I hope everyone had a great week and all the kitties are feeling good, i see a lot of new kitties on the board........WELCOME!! :-D BTB for us now and we'll visit some condos later. Have a great day all!

Re: 3/24 Leo AMPS 419

Yay for three weeks holiday! That should give Leo time to adjust to his new diet. Grandparents are such easy targets; I speak from first hand knowledge! Good luck getting through to your DD on this. Maybe DM would make a better holder of the treats. I hope all goes well with the transition to Lev and Leo's numbers become more stable.

Re: 3/24 Leo AMPS 419

Do you supply DGpa with the treats? If so, ration them out! Especially since Leo is back outside and hunting, he's getting the PureBites and mice. In other words, double the treats.

As for your vet, I've got 2 suggestions. The first is that Leo has been on Lantus for almost a year and you're not getting the duration you'd like. Lev and Lantus are similar in their dosing just a bit different in their pharmacology so why not give it a try. The second point does relate to their pharmacology. When you inject Lantus it forms a microcrystalline precipitate that resides in the subcutaneous fat tissue. Levemir, on the other hand, does not form a precipitate and instead, forms a depot at the injection site where it binds to protein (i.e., albumin). This article explains the action in more detail. It may be that with his weight gain, the Lantus isn't as effective.

Re: 3/24 Leo AMPS 419, +4.5 92

ACCCCKKKKK I am a bad bean! Leo and i laid awake for quite awhile after his shot this morning and i finally fell asleep at his +2 and slept right thru all my alarms and just woke up, and awoke to this number!!! Now i don't know if this is a rising or falling number. I fed him some of his regular +2 and am hoping he will surf instead of bouncing but this is a huge drop. What a sweetie i have tho, he laid in bed snuggling all morning with me and of course purring the whole time.

Sienne, yes i supply the treats, i've tried bringing a little bag of treats but they always run out and i feel bad for Leo having to get pokies done without his treats, hence the huge bags i buy. And thank you for the article, i'll take a look at it after i post this. That sounds like a nice way of telling Leo's vetty that we need to switch insulins, i hope she agrees with it. I'll have to wait to talk to her until Monday since the office isn't open on weekends.

  Linda, yes grandparents are very easy targets and it doesn't seem to matter if its a fur-child or a bean-child!!

Re: 3/24 Leo AMPS 419, +4.5 92, +5.5 85, +7 94

Oh sure, we grans are always to blame

Poor starving Leo. What's he gonna do for food, for the next 3 weeks?
I totally understand, Tracy. I had the same problem with my DH and our dog. Hubby just could not resist giving treats, no matter what I said....or what the scale said! Grrr!
I hope you have lots of fun stuff to do on your vacation. :-D

Re: 3/24 Leo AMPS 419, +4.5 92, +5.5 85, +7 94

Oh I can't help but laugh with Leo's DGPa. I just love your Dad; he really means well. I hope this talk helps. Leo probably has just the right face to get your Dad to give in to more treats! Good luck with talking to your Vet and the switch. I bet she can't help but agree after you explain how it can make a big difference with Leo. Have a wonderful day.

Re: 3/24 Leo AMPS 419, +4.5 92, +5.5 85, +7 94

I think you'd like levemir, Tracy. And it would be rare to see him do this on lev.....419 to 92 in 4.5 hours.....

Glad you are home for three weeks....hope all is well.

Also...the other day I mentioned 28 days for lantus vs 42 days for levemir. Those are just the manufacturers' dates of expiration for human use (without refrigeration). Many members get much longer out
of their pens.

Re: 3/24 Leo AMPS 419, +4.5 92, +5.5 85, +7 94

DGpa can look after me anytime - but not Vyktor  Here's another idea for you - how about you split the treats into small bags with a daily ration for Leo in each bag. That might make it easier for DGpa to visualise how much to give because that one bag needs to last the day and if he does overdo it Leo will only be out of treats for an evening rather than the rest of his stay.

Leo that was some drop

Re: 3/24 Leo AMPS 419, +4.5 92, +5.5 85, +7 94, +10.5 243

Yeah this morning was a huge drop, but guaranteed this will be the only greens we'll see on this dose and Leo will have some nice blue cycles and then creep up to yellows and then finally pinks and another increase and the pattern continues......... I hope Lev will cure this pattern. Leo is feelin' pretty good tho, just tested him and he came in at 243, fingers and paws crossed that he doesn't bounce to high heaven by his PMPS.

I meant to ask, does Lev come in vials as well? Vials seem to be easier for my father to use than pens, it might be more expensive but that's why Leo's insurance comes in pretty handy dandy! :-D

Re: 3/24 Leo AMPS 419, +4.5 92, +5.5 85, +7 94, +10.5 243

Great to hear you are home! We missed you. 3 weeks off would be great.

Now Leo, diet is in full force buddy. DGpa tries so hard but the grandpa in him can't let poor Leo starve! Good luck on Lev. I hope it evens him out and gets rid of those spikes.

Welcome home Tracy!!!

That's a great suggestion from Serryn about portioning out the daily treats. I'm sure Leo is so irresistibly cute that DGp just caves. :-D :-D Happy vacation!

Hi Tracy - WOO HOO! back home with your boy. How nice that must be. :-D

oh wow on that +4 this morning. Sure was a nice green surf for a bit. :-D I wish you luck with the Lev - I hope it will be a better insulin for Leo. Luck too with DGP. I kinda like the days bag of rations idea. maybe that would help.

Enjoy you evening. YAY on vacation!!

nice to see Leo in green, even though he's starving.

Lev does come in vials, at least in the US. I used to get vials for Jazzy because she was on such a high dose that the vial ended up being cheaper.
