Re: 2/27-Cini Mini - AMPS 485 *ARRRGGHH!!* Pics too

Hi guys .. ouch on the amps! Cini mini, it hasn't been that long since you've seen blue .. no reason to bounce that hard! What an adorable pic .. I can't believe that tabasco would have any mischief in him :-D have a great day!

Re: 2/27-Cini Mini -AMPS 485,+4/439,+6/410 *NEW PEN IS HERE*

Woot! The new pen is here, the new pen is here!! flip_cat dancing_cat dancing_cat

So, I have questions:

It's a Lantus pen. Purple, looks like a fat marker. I pulled the cap off and I can see the insulin cartridge. (I can take pics if you need them). I saw Julie's video about how to draw the insulin out of the pen, so I'm straight on how to do that but....

1. Do I pull the vial out of the pen cartridge?
2. There's a dial at the end of the cartridge. What's that for?
3. There's a purple button at the end too. My OCD wants to click.the.button! @-) MUST CLICK BUTTON! What happens if I click the pretty purple clicky button?
4. Do I store it flat in the fridge?
5. If I can't store it flat, which end is best to face up/down? Does it matter?

Re: 2/27-Cini Mini -AMPS 485,+4/439,+6/410 *NEW PEN IS HERE*

Glad the pen is there and love Cini's pics.

1. No...don't pull the "vial" out of the pen...I'm not even sure you can. Just remove the cover and insert your syringe into the pad on the end of the pen.

2. No need to do anything with the dial. That is for humans who are using pen needles so they can dial a dose. It's too inaccurate for us and we don't use the pen needles.

3. You are TOO funny. If you push the click button, the pen will explode so tame your OCD  JK! I don't think anything happens...I pushed it once and nada so why tempt the fates ?

4. I store mine flat in the cheese draw with a frig thermometer sitting on top of the box. That way I know the temp is constant and not influenced by the door opening and closing. Some wrap theirs in bubble wrap. I don't know why you couldn't store it upright except anywhere in the frig that you do would probably be more influenced by the door opening and the frig getting warmer. A drawer is best.

Have fun...it is a little different than the vial. Remember to not inject air into it.

Re: 2/27-Cini Mini -AMPS 485,+4/439,+6/410 *NEW PEN IS HERE*

The button is what dispenses the insulin dose through the pen needle...if you are using it that way. I don't think it does anything without a pen needle, but I wouldn't press it when the syringe is inserted....

Re: 2/27-Cini Mini -AMPS 485,+4/439,+6/410 *NEW PEN IS HERE*

Glad Laurie clarified. When I pushed it, I did not have the syringe in place....that's probably why nothing happened .....and I was too nailbite_smile nailbite_smile to push it with the syringe in place. :-D

Re: 2/27-Cini Mini -PMPS 266 - Starting New Pen

Okie dokie, not too hard to use the pen ;-)

But that purple button is gonna get me sooner or later

Re: 2/27-Cini Mini -PMPS 266 - Starting New Pen

Maybe you should put some red paint on it? DANGER!!!

Good luck with the new pen. Cini Mini, we want to see some greens with that new juice. OK?

Re: 2/27-Cini Mini -PMPS 266,+2/165 - Something's Not Right

Something's not right :?

Cini seems stiff and limping on his right rear leg.

He has arthritis in his tail but it's never seemed to bother him to this extent before.

Oh dear nailbite_smile

Also, his +2 was 165 which means I may be in for a long night.

Re: 2/27-Cini Mini -PMPS 266,+2/165 - Something's Not Right

Did he tussle with Tabasco?

and just so you know...the first Lantus pen I got, I was dialing the dosage that Binks was getting
( Later learned that you don't need to do that.)

ah well....it's all part of the learning curve :-D

Re: 2/27-Cini Mini -PMPS 266,+2/165 - Something's Not Right

I'd keep a close eye on him...know you will. You might need to call the vet tomoorw.

Glad to see Cini coming down. Have fun with the pen. ;-)

Re: 2/27-Cini Mini -PMPS 266,+2/165 - Something's Not Right

Hehe..

No, he was sleeping under my desk in that elongated laying on the side position cats do. I gently petted him to let him know I was there to wake him up to do his +2 BG. Then he sat up an growled and hopped away.

Now he's sitting in the hallway kind of locked up like he doesn't want to move :?

Re: 2/27-Cini Mini -PMPS 266,+2/165,+3/171 - Update

Holding steady with the +3 of 171, so that's looking good on the insulin side of things.

Right now, Cini is laying under my chair resting on his left side. I just saw him stretch out both legs a bit. So hopefully the stiffness and limping are nothing more than arthritis.

Definetly going to have to bring him in to the Vet tomorrow.

Re: 2/27-Cini Mini -PMPS 266,+2/165,+3/171,+7/332 - 3am Upda

Found Cini under my bed sleeping. Didn't yelp or exhibit pain when I pulled him out to take his +7 BG. Fed him some fresh food which he ate.

While typing this I heard a yelp and a growl from the bedroom and he was out from under the bed and all bunched up while standing. He's trying to walk around but it must be painful for him.

Re: 2/27-Cini Mini -PMPS 266,+2/165,+3/171,+7/332 - 3am Upda

Oh Cini what have you done? Hope it's nothing too serious.

Re: 2/27-Cini Mini -PMPS 266,+2/165,+3/171,+7/332 - 3am Upda

Thanks Serryn.

Cini just went to the litterbox and peed. *whew* But as he was covering up his business he did yelp and growl. I am taking it as a good sign on the peeing and he was able to get in and out the LB on his own, albeit slowly and painfully.

Re: 2/27-Cini Mini -PMPS 266,+2/165,+3/171,+7/332 - 3am Upda

Poor Cini, if he yelped when he was covering up sounds like it's something to do with a front leg/paw

Re: 2/27-Cini Mini -PMPS 266,+2/165,+3/171,+7/332 - 3am Upda

I think it's his right rear leg. He's limping on it and when he has to make a tight turn (like in the litterbox) he yelps.

This morning I found him on the stair landing  I picked him up and brought him back upstairs to his bed and then went downstairs to get coffee going and my son off to school. I come back to the stairs and who's sitting on the landing again?? ohmygod_smile

Re: 2/27-Cini Mini -PMPS 266,+2/165,+3/171,+7/332 - 6am Upda

Hey Sienne,

He's still limping and stiff. Takes 2 or 3 steps and then bunches in a ball balancing on his 3 good legs. He went all the way down the stairs by himself, I am waiting to see if he attempts up the stairs. He still gives a periodic yelp/growl.

The Vet's office doesn't open for another 2 hours and my Vet is not working today. I was going to ask the front desk staff to relay a message to her and see if she'll call me back.

Re: 2/27-Cini Mini -PMPS 266,+2/165,+3/171,+7/332 - 6am Upda

Positive thoughts and healing vines for Cini Mini this morning. Good luck at the vet's. It sounds like he might have pulled a muscle or something.
Feel better Cini!
