He was very bright, active and happy this morning. Almost seems MORE active and interested when his levels are thru the roof. go figure.
ate snappy tom today for breakfast (almost 0% carbs), refused the ground beef 'bribe' for his ear prick ("steak or NOTHING woman!"), has gone back outside to terrorize something, or sulk now! Drinks from the puddles on the deck (doh!), but not drinking excessively and still only peeing at his usual times. Sigh. just wishing we could avoid the spikes in the morning. He doesn't get access to more than about a tablespoon of food over night (that's if one of the others doesn't get it first.. so I'm curious as to why the shot seems to work so well in the morning, but over the same period at night his levels go up. Still.. I keep plugging my numbers into my trend graph and weirdly, there is STILL an overall slow and steady decline.

I sure hope he starts to regulate soon. Bad day yesterday for hubby, just a sad mess, and then Oliver the new stray disappeard for a couple of hours and Stu was convinced he'd run away forever and given his fragile state he completely lost it. I think he's feeling a little overwhelmed too, although I'm finding it tough to be the 'strong' one all the time. Poor Rupert, he has a lot of emotional baggage to deal with in his 'beans' at the moment!

I think it's highly likely that you're seeing bounces. You have no idea how much lower than the 171 Rupert went last night. In addition, the drop during his AM cycle was quite large. He may take a cycle to bounce.

Hi guys .. I always thought it was odd too, how mocha felt "better" with higher numbers .. then someone explained to me that she was so used to being high, she felt "off" when she was low .. but once she regulated she started acting spunkier in the lower numbers .. Do you think rupert would do better with a little more food overnight? Hope you guys have a great day!

Hi Pip. I know how awful it is to see a number like that. I had one last nite and didn't believe it so took another test and it was over a hundred points lower. Don't know which is correct, but I chose to believe the lower on, obviously.
I bet Rupert on on his way down to a better floor, right now :smile:

I think there is a good chance Rupert is bouncing off of those fast drops he had the last couple of mornings. Watch him today in case he does the same today - if he is dropping really fast early in the cycle, you can try to slow him down with some food.

He could also still be seeing some effect from the delayed shot and then the early shot a couple of days ago.

I would give him a couple more cycles on this dose and see if he settles down.

Believe it or not you are still very early in the Sugardance, it takes time for these bounces to come under control. If you could get a test in the middle of the night (DH got that job , as he usually was up at some point or other to, uh, ,,,,,) take a test. Or set an alarm, it dowsn't need to be every night.

in addition to all the great advice given here today, if you could manage a random test here and there, during the bottom half of his PM cycles, it may shed some light on the overall picture. Rupert may very well be visiting the "lowlands" during those times.

he seems to visit the 'lowlands' all over the map! i will resist the urge to get carried away and will give him his fat 1.5 again tonight.... fingers crossed his body will quite damn well fighting! As for himself, he's quite fine and truly pissed at me for poking at him all the time! silly boy.

grrr. it's frustrating though because then you start to think 'well, maybe I missed with the shot this morning?'.. and your brain is saying 'get him into the low range as soon as possible so he can start to heal and avoid those high ranges'.. and you so want to get in there and MAKE it happen.

sigh.

oh well. least HE seems perfectly happy. I just freak at the thought of those high BG numbers causing damage to him somewhere.

then I look at some other people's spreadsheets and realize that they, too, are often all over the map, and that the remission rate is still fairly high here and that those that went into remission had massive swings as well.

I hope Rupert comes down for you this evening. I'm not an expert, but I'd put my money on a bounce as well. Atticus was all over the place when we started too, but he's been coming down steadily. Hope you all have a better evening!

Rupert better this evening... a not too bad 221 at +11. will test again pre shot to see if he's going UP already or still on a down.. still haven't quite figured out where his 'low' point time is yet.

okay, this makes no sense to me. he was at 221 when I tested him about 45 minutes ago. has had NO FOOD in the meantime. Just did his PMPS and it's up to 423??? did it twice to make sure.

is that normal? has the insulin worn off and BOOM he skyrockets up again?

I had a hard time getting a good spot in his ear tonight... and he has an area that's a bit scabbed up, but does bleed fairly easily. could it be that the blood is mixing with older blood on the way out???? I put poly sporin on his ears a few days ago but found that it made the blood NOT bead up very well so I haven't put any since. I think I'll get some alcohol swabs and wipe his ears down so they are totally clean. Poor fella, he must feel like a pin cushion. I'll give him the fat 1.5 again tonight.. but this is driving me mental.

can someone tell me if that reading is possible/normal/logical???

Could be the 221 is a late nadir today. Aahh...the sugardance...ANYTHING is possible.

I've always been one to question "where did THAT come from?" "Why is she doing that?" and everyone said....it's just a number...accept it, move on. It's taken me a while to do it. I still want to know why things happen...why did Gracie have almost three weeks of great cycles and then pink/yellow...what changed? But you can drive yourself crazy.

We all want them in normal numbers. Things that help are consistency in dose/time of shot and food management of curve to try and flatten them out so they don't dive down and bounce back up.

It's good you are looking at other SSs. Take a look at D.C.s...talk about patience. He's been a FD since 2007 and is on .1u of insulin....gorgeous SS these days.

Haannngggg iiiinnn there. You never know when they'll snap into great numbers (also look at Mikey's SS...not "Mikey's Mom" but Mikey with miso00. He's suddenly on a mission after many high numbers).

i think it's very likely you're seeing a high before a break. some cats do that.
rupert did something similar on 2/14 - 2/15. i'd get that before bed spot check tonight and probably set an alarm for a late cycle spot check.
you might just catch a green number!

Pip, if the polysporin is the white cream stuff, it doesn't work well - does just what you described. You need to get the 'ointment' instead of 'cream'. The ointment is oil based and WILL help the blood bead up as well as help the 'pokie' areas.

And your question..."does it make sense?" Does ANYTHING make sense in this dance? ;-) Not MY cat...

so, +2 he's at 264, gone down from the PMPS of 462. Wow. he's just up and down and up and down. weird.

Does anyone notice that in the first couple of hours after the shot, their cat is a lot dopier and sleepy? he seems to get hit fairly quickly and then levels out and is 'normally' active by about the four hour mark. .. I think.. I mean, really.. he's a cat! that's what they do - sleep all the time and act grumpy if you keep pestering them! tee hee.
anyway. fun roller coaster I guess, as long as it's not damaging him too much. not sure I'll get another test in tonight. most curious to see what we get tomorrow morning.

lol! no, not weird at all. that red was a high before the break... just like the PM 2/14 cycle. your boy is on the way down. this might turn in to a reoccuring pattern with him. watch for it. :mrgreen:

that's a pretty significant drop. i'd definitely get a spot check by around +4.
at this rate, he'll be green before you know it.
