12/29 Willie PMPS (+12.5) 155 vet visit today

Yesterday's Condo


I bumped Willie's dose back up last night and we've been cruising the blues, which isn't terrible. He had an "ookie" on his eye last night, which I haven't seen for awhile, and when we woke up this morning, his whole eye area was swollen, crusty and oozing. Waiting for our regular vet to open in 45 minutes to see if they can get him in this morning, if not, I'll just take him over to the emergency vet clinic, which is only a few blocks away.

Looks like for now, we're staying put in KS. Nobody is talking about a burial for my grandmother, and I suspect they either aren't going to do one or they're going to wait until they do her memorial mass in late spring/early summer. My uncle is handling the arrangements, and I suspect he and his wife don't want to have to fly back from Florida to be there. :evil: :evil: :evil: My grandmother's niece is scheduled to have her hair done today by my aunt (who happens to be my mom's best friend). Mom assures me that my Aunt will get all the details and pass them along. Oh, small town life..... :roll: :roll: :roll:

As for the request for a video of Herbie's crazy toy antics, I've been trying! The problem is, she is so fast that the video ends up being a blur!

Willie just came in from breffis. He's managed to get his eye cleaned enough so he can open it at least. Poor guy. We'll update when we know something.

Christie, my condolences to you with the passing of your grandmother. I missed that yesterday and so sorry I missed it. Sending good Vetty vines to Willie and hope his eye gets better.

Oh Christie! This is the first I heard about your grandmother. I am so sorry for your loss and for the family dynamics. Unfortunately, DH and I both have that type of atmosphere with our families and know how horrible it is to try and deal with. My small home town in Iowa is the same way. Please know that I am thinking about you.

Good luck at the vet! Poor Willie! I hope you can get him into your regular vet and figure out what is going on with his eye.

We are deeply sorry to hear of the death of your grandmother and send sympathy to you and your family. I hope that all will work out with the burial/memorial arrangements.

Good luck at the vet today; Willie will no doubt get some a/bs for his eye. Poor guy must be uncomfortable.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Hopefully, the memorial will truly be a tribute.

Sorry to her about Willie's eye. I take it you have seen this before? I hope the family drama straightens itself out, Nothing like having connections at the hairdressers in a small town!

Christie I am deeply sorry you have lost your dear grandmother....Sorry I didnt catch it yesterday.. Yes there is always family drama, and it does eventually work out--You can grieve for her in your own way, until the plans are made..My Dad's mom passed in Florida & they did a quick cemetary burial, to which only My Dad & his wife attended. They didnt want me to spend the $$ to come!!-Oh well! So I did my own thing here.

Poor Willie, Glad you took him right away..Hope his sweet eye will be better by tomorrow--
So upsetting when they arent well, wish they could tell us!

I would not presume to know how you feel about your grandmother's passing,
but your mentioning the dementia prompts me to share this:
My grammy suffered 9 years of Alzheimer's...and her moments of lucidity caused her such great sorrow
that I am completely convinced that her passing was a blessed release for her :sad:

Thanks so much to everyone for the well-wishes and condolences. They are truly appreciated.

Willie was a good boy at the vet, as always. It's interesting... he always seems more frightened at this clinic than at others. He would happily stay in his carrier if I would let him! The vet says that while his eye is very swollen and it is hard to tell for sure, it most likely isn't a scratch (which she checked by staining his eye area). She suspects either herpes or "nasty chlamydia." :lol: :lol: :lol: She is concerned that with the diabetes and the immune suppressant meds he's on, the infection, whatever it is, might try to hang on for awhile. I'm to give him 250mg of lysine twice a day and he has Terramycin ointment for his eye that we're to use 3x a day. No orals for now, but she said we would start them at the first sign of any sneezes or nasal discharge.

Does anyone know if either infection can be passed from canines to felines? I ask b/c the very cute baby puppy my cousins brought to my mom's house had really crusty looking eyes, and the puppy was following Willie around and then I held the puppy for quite awhile (little thing was so tired, it curled up on my chest and went to sleep). She did say the infection could have been latent and then activated by the stress of the car trip back to KS. :sad: :sad:

I've got to head off to tbp for the afternoon but wanted to give an update! Weather here is in the 60s today, so I'm hoping to sneak out early and go for a run. Hope everyone is having a good day!

I hope Willie's eye clears up soon, I bet this is the cause of his higher #'s. Good thing you got him in and got some meds.

As far as whether the infection is contagious, why not call your vet and ask?
