Happy Friday :-D

Dr. B has a diagnosis for Leroy's weird coughing/panting/lip smacking thing :thumbup (Last Leroy update ) Not sure what is is because his email was vague. Now just waiting for him to call. In the meantime I'm nailbite_smile and hoping for something minor and treatable.

Nothing new otherwise with Leroy or Emma. Does anyone have a suggestion for a good nail clipper? I have one a generic one from PetSmart (guillotine style) but all it does is crushes the nail and leaves a jagged shredded end  I have an expensive stainless steel one (non-guillotine) but that doesn't work well either.

I'll be interested to see what Dr B says. Hoping for something minor and treatable with you.

I don't dare cut my adult cats' nails here at home  I did buy one from petco or petsmart for the kittens. It's a scissor-style one, but it doesn't work well either, even on their little kitten claws. Just sort of mashes and breaks the nail. If you do find a good one, let me know!

There's a technique with the scissor types - cut the nail from bottom to top or top to bottom, not side to side. Side to side is more of a crushing maneuver; top : bottom is more of a cutting manuever.

I use my regular human nail clippers for Smokey's front claws- and top to bottom (not side to side) does seem to work better!

news on leroy?

we use a human toenail clipper on the cats - turn it sideways also. works great - just watch you don't cut them too short. if you have it horizontally it also crushes and makes a mess of things.

I use my human finger nail clipper on both my cats, always held sideways.
Ginger's are hard to see (almost translucent) and little needle like things that blend in with her hair. I do the best I can.
After clipping her nails, she always gets a laser light play session :-D

I've tried top top bottom and side to side but both pairs of clippers just crush the nail :? They don't seem sharp enough. Or maybe Leroy and Emma just have super thick nails  It's hard to even clip Emma's nails because she has long fur in between her toes :?

So Leroy.... one of Dr. B's initial thoughts was correct. Leroy has a nasopharyngyl polyp  Dr. B and some other vets reviewed the videos and agreed on the diagnosis. The weird thing is, a nasopharngyl polyp would cause constant coughing and stuff. Leroy just has it occasionally. He actually hasn't had one since Nov. 2. Dr. B thinks that the nasopharyngyl polyp is really small and just causes the occasional irratation. For now it's a "keep an eye on unless it gets worse" thing. That I can do. I was worried that Leroy had something much more complicated @-)
