punkin's scheduled to start acupuncture next friday - had an interesting conversation with the vet acupuncturist last night. he said he has very good results for cats with chronic pain conditions. also said that the vet we're taking punkin to has brought 3 of her own personal cats to him. seems like great results.

he's doing fine other than not wanting to be held. scarfed his food and cleaned anya's plate, of course. purred about how good his life is. :-D i dreamed last night about him going off of insulin from 8 units to zero in one step. but woke up to him needing insulin, so here we are. we're holding at the 8.5u for now.

Re: 11/10 punkin amps 255

Punkin, work that juice! A repeat of blues would be very nice.

I'm interested to see what kind of difference the acupuncture will make.

Have a good day Julie.

Re: 11/10 punkin amps 255

Hi Julie,
Acupuncture would be a good thing to try, and it sounds like you've found a good kitty acupuncturist. Good luck to Punkin for his first visit. We'll be following along.

Enjoy the day and tell Punkin and Anya to wear their woolies tonight: it's supposed to snow for the Full Beaver Moon Party at Camp Stu.

Hi guys .. nice yellow for punkin this morning .. I'll also be interested in seeing how the acupuncture works for punkin, hopefully he has good results .. have a great day!

Re: 11/10 punkin amps 255

Not a bad sunny yellow for Punkin today!

I am interested how the acupuncture goes. Good luck! That is quite the endorsement though.

   Funny on the dream. Wouldn't that be nice. Oh well! Punkin is a lucky kitty to have a bean who even dreams about making him better.

Have a wonderful day Julie!

Re: 11/10 punkin amps 255

I'm really curious to find out how accupuncture works for Punkin, my biggest question is, how do you get them to sit still with those little needles all over the place?!?!?! My best friend is a chiropractor and accupuncturist, i used to be her accupuncture guinea pig and there are places to put a needle on the body that are used strictly for calming, tho i wonder if it would work on a cat?

I had a dream once that i tested Leo and he was 1.1mmol or 20! But i sure hope your dream comes true!!

Re: 11/10 punkin amps 255

Julie, Just wanted to say I really admire how you take care of Punkin and how well you handle the high dosages your kitty needs. Amazing that one small kitty can need so much insulin. And thanks for all the helpful posts too. Elaine and Pinky

Re: 11/10 punkin amps 255

  I was wondering the same thing as Tracy! Tess just constantly tries to hide at the vet. Good luck, I have heard good things about it too. :-D

Re: 11/10 punkin amps 255

Another person here interested in how Punkin handles acupuncture. Heck, I have trouble handling it. I hope it goes well for him and I do think it can be helpful. Might even stimulate more than the pain centers.

8.5 is very good for now. He is coming down and I don't think you would want him to just drop the need all at once. Slow and steady wins the race. I am into dream interpretation and that is a very good dream. Sometimes they are prophetic.

that's really interesting rosalie! i am glad he's a plodder in all of this - far easier to handle mentally. it's bad enough to get used to shooting big amounts, but then if he zoomed on it? you'd have to tranquilize me or something!

the computer helpfully gave me this screen this morning

"snap Jim! she's broke!"

then turned it off. i'm substituting on monday - my first one - working with a little 3rd grader with Down's syndrome. Went over and met her today and the regular person (who is a friend) let me watch how she does things for a while. let's just say monday may be very interesting! she's a spitfire little girl!

i'm curious about the acupuncture too. i have no experience at all with it, but if it works, i'd rather spend the $$ on that than on drugs. i realized after i bought the bupe that it cost almost as much as the acupuncture. which i think ought to be spelled accupuncture instead! so i keep trying to spell it with 2 c's. i trust they have some way of handling punkin without knocking him out. he's not keen on going to the vet's, but he wasn't too bad at this one's office last time, so hopefully he won't get too worked up.

out again for lunch with the hubby. back in a while.

Would LOVE to see your dream come true :-D

We took Zener for three acupuncture appointments. He was very calm and layed still for the 30 minutes or so the needles were in. There were about 15 needles, mostly in his back, a couple in his head, and a couple in his paws. We sat with him and petted him. It was relaxing for us too. He was more calm after the appointments than he usually is but then he's rather low key anyway. We think it helped to improve his appetite and to balance his energy. Our animal communicator (Terri Sides, http://www.walkingheart.com/) said that 3 appointments were enough for now. Our vet said she has only had a couple of animals that she could not do acupuncture on. The cost was about $70 per treatment.

I agree: it should be spelled with 2 Cs.

Nice numbers for punkin today! I hope your dream does come true. Everyone in LL is rooting for you and punkin.

We took Zener to our vet for 3 acupuncture visits to help with his appetite. Our vet also does acupuncture for pain management and has good results. She hasn't had good results with blood glucose control, but has had good results with acupuncture for hyperthyroid conditions. Zener was a real star and was very still and quiet. He didn't like going to the vet, but once there, when our vet starting putting in the needles, he settled right down and it seemed like a kitty meditation state. It was all very relaxing and peaceful.

Nice blues there with dialing for doseage punkin!

I hope the acupuncture helps Punkin, sweet boy!!!! One of our GAs had alot of acupuncture for arthritis...she tolerated it very well and it seemed to help a little bit. It did not help Gus but he has some congenital arthritis....different.

His numbers are looking great. AND the power of positive DREAMING!!! If you can dream it, you can do it.... or he can....let's call it proxy dreaming.

I hope you enjoy your subbing and that things will go well with the little girl with Down Syndrome....Mike's stepbrother has Down Syndrome and what an amazingly smart and well adjusted guy he is because of the special schools he went to....he is even able to live in a group home (small group) where they encourage alot of independence and he holds a fairly decent job. I know you will have a great influence on this little girl!!

i'm just so excited that we've had 2 days of the same dose! not sure what that means, maybe we're going to have little plateaus in this adventure. we've taken to writing the dose on the fridge so we don't screw up and shoot the wrong thing!

melissa, punkin says thanks for noticing! he thinks he's pretty beautiful too. he especially likes his tail.

Cool...two days on the same dose..CONSISTENCY!

With the undercover mouse....put in two batteries, connect the wand and the cover, turn on a button...voila....entertains the kitties!

now that's my speed! the perfect toy for the lazy bean. i doubt i could get punkin interested, but anya would be delighted!

watching star trek dvd's tonight - nothing on tv.

You should be able to go to bed soon!!! Lucky you. I'm gonna see how Bailey is doing and then I think I'll go into test/sleep mode.....

The toy has three speeds!! woo hoo but mine are afraid of anything more than slow

Julie,
You so have my admiration for all that you have done for Punkin. I understand the 'why's ' of it, but the emotional toll of it must have been tough. I hope the acupuncture does him a world of good! He is truly a medical marvel and you are doing kitters all over the world a service by sharing your story. Your upbeat attitude is an inspiration.

seems to me that each one of these kitties has a special story. those emerge as we read each other's condos. thank you - that's very kind of you to say, but i look around at Lantus Land and see everyone else doing the same thing. just a bunch of crazy cat people devoted to their kitters, because they are that special.

we love our little ones. cat_pet_icon

i do hope punkin's story will help some kitter in the future in the same boat.
