I didn't get any tests past +4 last night, didn't think he was going anywhere. Sienne, you thought it would be a busy cycle? How's this one?

Haven't shot yet, a few minutes early. He was hungry and I didn't want to let him wait.
I can get a +1 if I leave for work a little late, then it won't be until +11.

ETA: I know I had to be patient. 6 cycles into dose, first real progress. You were right

Re: 10/12 Tom AMPS 178 +1 158 *advice please*

I'm worried that I left him but I had to go. I don't have enough data to give me confidence in the numbers. He did get his Pred and ate some dry this morning, both of which should/will bring him up.

Should I try to go back home to test? It will take me 1.5 to 2 hours return. DH will be home around +9 otherwise. I'll be there around +11.

He was feeling so good this morning. Feisty when I came to subqs - was not able to give it all. He then helped me pack DD's lunch. I much rather see him this way though.

Re: 10/12 Tom AMPS 178 +1 158 *advice please*

is there anyone else at home that could test him?

just for the future, you might want to get a timed feeder. on a day like today you could leave some high carb food to open at +5 or 6. you could also freeze some canned food - mix with water and freeze in muffin tins - and leave out to be gradually eaten over the next few hours.

i have no idea if he's safe or not. you know him best - there's not really enough data yet to know if he's a diver.

but if i were you i'd make plans for covering him for the next time - with another person, or a way to leave food out for him. the trouble with the dry food is that it will stay with him for a long time. that might cover him today. i don't know.

thinking about you guys today.

I can't go home. Neither can DH and there's nobody else.
Deep down I KNOW he's going to be fine. I tend to worry too much. He's got plenty of food, including dry (FYI, dry was just recently brought back to make him eat. He was losing too much weight and we needed to buy time for the Pred. to do something. Fingers crossed).
Pred. has been making his BG spike as well.

DH will go home as soon as he can.

:YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: I know the feeling when I have to be away, you do what you have to do.I'm sure he will be fine.

Re: 10/12 Tom AMPS 178 +1 158

so you're saying he's got dry available to eat? then he will very likely be ok.

we do worry about our little ones - they're important to us. have a good day.

Re: 10/12 Tom AMPS 178 +1 158 +11 333

+11 333 Who knows where he went today. He won't tell me. But the bowls are empty.

I was so stressed today. I hate that.

Re: 10/12 Tom AMPS 178 PMPS 344

Actually +11.5 but have to test, feed, shoot about 30 minutes early - otherwise it would be 1 hour late. Getting his Pred. now, fluids will be later.
Back a little after +1.

He's going up. Wonder if he went really low today?

i don't know, but my first guess would be that you're seeing the dry food affecting his BG.

I'm sure it has something to do with it. I'm having a difficult time. When Tom went OTJ in 2008, it went very quickly once we removed all the dry food. Now with his health issues, we need him to eat anything to survive (which includes dry) AND we started Pred. which makes him feel better but affects BG at the same time. And we started subqs. And his appetite is inconsistent.
I find all these variables difficult to handle.

Today, there was half a bowl of dry left out along with the wet. Who knows who ate what between the 3 of them. Tonight, there's wet with just a little dry sprinkled on top. I am not leaving a bowl of dry unless I see he's really not eating.

Re: 10/12 Tom AMPS 178 PMPS 344

i wasn't criticizing you for giving it to him. there are times when you gotta do whatever it takes to get them to eat. i was just responding to your wondering why he was high, if he went low earlier or not. he might've gone low, i was just saying that my first guess would be to look at the food. i could be wrong with it too. no way to know.

it sounds like a really difficult situation and i'm certain you're doing the best possible. our kitties don't always make it easy, do they? :YMHUG:

I know you're not criticizing. You're here to help and that's awesome.
They definitely can throw us curve balls. I just love him so much and am so worried.

Re: 10/12 Tom AMPS 178 PMPS 344

hi Sonia,
it's great to hear that Tom's got the feisty going!

I think we can all relate to worries when going out, so there is nothing wrong with leaving some HC out for him as most cats will eat when they go into lower numbers; the dry will not act fast enough so it's not going to help while you are out like HC wet foods, plus dry food keeps the numbers higher for longer than wet foods.

It's easier to come home to a higher number than a really low one and maybe problems because of that low.
Also, I don't know when you are giving fluids but they can result in your having lower BG numbers, so that's another detail to keep in mind. I usually wait to give Shadoe any fluids until her BG is higher or on the rise.

Pats for Tom; I hope he has a good nite.

Re: 10/12 Tom PMPS 344 +3 175

We have blue! Good drop there. Got his Pred. late at about +1.5 but ate barely any dry. We'll see what that does.
Will get a +4.

+5 148
Time for bed. For me anyway. Tom, well, he's feeling good and being silly :-D
We'll see what he throws my way in the morning.
