Well, well, well....we've got a blue start. Though, truth be told, I do believe I should have my mommy card yanked. I started Champ on new insulin last night, knowing the old pen had pretty much petered out, checked him at +2, and then completely forgot about the little duders. I went to bed at about 11:30 and didn't even think about the fact I hadn't tested him at all last night until I checked him at +9.5 (when I get up and he gets a tuna or chicken snack) and saw his BG was 134!! So, the big mystery is....how low did he go? I don't think he was ever too low, though, because he usually cries like crazy for food and wakes me up. Maybe he just had a nice blue surf. Yeah, that's what he did... had a nice blue surf.

This morning's temperature was so absolutely beautiful at 70 degrees. We haven't had a cool temp like that in a loooong time. I opened up my DD's bedroom window so Champ could hop up on his windowsill and survey all the comings and goings of the neighborhood out front. He finally got to smell some smells, hear some birdies, and watch those same birdies fly around and torment him. He likes to watch the neighbors drive off to work and the little kids walk to the school bus stop. Ahhh...... it must be fall!!!

I would like to thank my wonderful friend Marje who mentioned she "rolls" Gracie's skin to inject. I had never heard of this, but after she described it, I tried it, and it's like frickin magic!!! The hair just parts and there's that purty pink skin with a neon sign saying "inject here." You can definitely tell you got the needle in this way!!

I'll definitely be around to visit condos later this morning. Right now, work is calling my name. I told it to shut up, but, just like my daughter, it just keeps nagging me!!! So off I go. I hope all of you have a really terrific start to your week!!

Re: 9/12 Champ AMPS 152

Good morning!! What a beautiful start for Champers this morning! He must have surfed the blues all night for you. What a good boy.

We had the nice temps this morning too and it's like heaven. My lab loves it when it is in the 50s in the morning. It's like he is a puppy again.

I didn't see the trick Marj told you about. CD told me one time to pull up on the fur, not on the skin. It was one of those "duh" moments and I haven't had a fur shot since.

Hope you have a wonderful day!!!

Re: 9/12 Champ AMPS 152

YAY!! Look at Champ this morning. Way to go!! Such a nice amps, so blue! I bet he surfed blue too. he sounds like Mannie in that he will also get me for fuds when her knows he needs them.

wow! 70???? omg... enjoy that - I'd open the house too. I bet Champ is having one great morning: blue, and then the windows are open. YAY!!

yay on the shot stuff! I pull up on, and part, Mannie's fur, works every time. he has such long fur, it is the only way that really works for us.

Re: 9/12 Champ AMPS 152

Champ's got a lovely blue # this morning. Yay, Champ!!! :-D I hope that you continue to surf in the blues today, little guy! Have a great day, guys!

Hi guys .. looks like champs blue surf has lasted right through this morning so no need to give up your mommy card :-D 70 sounds beautiful! Today is a little warmer then usual, but we have 60's headed our way very soon .. I can't wait! Have a great day!

Re: 9/12 Champ AMPS 152

What a lovely morning. Yep, fall is here , we actually have sunshine in the morning. I pull up on Tess's fur too. What is the roll technique?

We all flake out sometimes in the evening, I doubt if he went much lower. Positive thinking! :-D

Re: 9/12 Champ AMPS 152

Yay Champers for surfing blue all night and giving you a fabulous AMPS this morning. Must be so nice to wake up to some 70's temps when you're used to living in an oven

Re: 9/12 Champ AMPS 152, +2 156, +4 123

Champ is doing such a good job!!! We've haven't had such a nice, easy curve in soooo long. Let's hope he is firmly planted on his surfboard with his toes curled around the edges, hanging on for dear life!!

Hi Melissa!! I know you had baking temperatures this summer, too. Isn't fall gran?!! With the shot technique, I've only ever had one or two fur shots. Champ is a short-haired cat, but his undercoat is so dense you still can't see skin. Pulling up on the hair and then rolling your hand backward just parts his hair perfectly!!! My old way worked fine, but this new way just takes far less time to get a good view.

Hi Michelle!! Good thing we have kitties who know how to help us help them!! And the weather!! We've haven't felt 70 degrees in so long and it was such a treat. Of course, by 10:30 the heat had once again taken over and I had to close all the windows and shades and turn the air conditioning back on, but at least I know when the sun sets, it will cool down again!!

Hi Angela!! From your mouth to Champ's ears!!! Let's hope the surf continues. Maybe even a little bit of green?!!

Hi Devon!! Maybe I do get to keep my Mommy card!! I sure hope you get your cooler weather soon! I don't know about you, but it can't get here soon enough!!

Hi Ann!! I like your idea of positive thinking...what I don't know won't hurt me (since it obviously didn't hurt Champ)!! The "roll" technique, and I explain things horribly, is when you pull up on the fur and then roll your hand back. The hair parts and the skin is nice and taut, perfect for an syringe full of insulin. This technique is probably used by a lot of people, but since I've never knew about it, it's new to me!!

Hi Tracy!! Oh you just don't know how nice it was to finally be able to open a window. Champ spent all morning there except for breaking away for his mini meals!! He does love his fresh air!!

Well, I think it's a certainty that his insulin was old and now that he's getting fresh juice, numbers are starting to look really good. Can't wait until he has a full shed of the good stuff!!

WOOOOOTTTT FOR NEW JUICE!! What a lovely surf today!!!

You explained it right the second time ;-) It is pulling up on the hair and rolling your hand back towards the kitty's head....and voila....as you said...purty pink skin.

I found this originally in the FAQs on the main felinediabetes.com page:

The technique is to pinch some of the skin (for me using my left hand) between your thumb and forefinger (trying to avoid grabbing muscle underneath) and ROLL your hand sideways (for me, rolling my hand over to the left)pulling the skin over your finger...this makes the cats skin MUCH TIGHTER than pinching it up into a tent, and the tighter the skin, the easier the needle penetrates without pulling.

She pinches skin but Gracie is so plush that I just roll hair. Hhmmm....maybe that's why she has the stink eye

looks like that new insulin was just what the doctor ordered for mr champ! glad to see him looking so fine.

Re: 9/12 Champ AMPS 152, +2 156, +4 123, +6 157

What a flat blue day for Champ... hopefully he isn't keeping you too busy this evening!!

Champ is definitely not keeping me busy. He is such a pooh!!!! He just couldn't keep it going. Little bugger. Oh well, there's always tomorrow.

Oh Champ!! Get back down into the blues where you belong buddy!

Thanks for the advice earlier today. I did mean an increase last night not month. I have been more vigilant about increasing every 6 cycles if nothing is happening. Finally he is giving some greens tonight. Stubborn buggar.

New insulin is always a good thing. I think Julie got some new stuff and Mr. Punkin's numbers improved. After being cooped up inside, there is nothing as good as an open window. Have a good night Patti.
