9/6 S'mores - 30ft Up in a Tree!!!

Hey All,

S'more gave us quite a scare this evening. He was out with us in the yard during the day, but disappeared when it was time to come in. I have a tracking collar on him just in case, but he left it in the bushes (first time for that too), so I had no way to track him down.

We kept hearing a meow just across the cul de sac, but when we went over there it would stop, and when we looked around, there was always another cat somewhere nearby (there are a lot of outdoor cat pets in this area).

So, we left the porch light on and went to bed. I opened the windows so that I would hear him call when he decided to come home.

I just woke up to yowls outside which sounded pretty unmistakably like S'mores. I ran outside, but again they stopped when we got close. For some reason my wonderful wife decided to look UP! ohmygod_smile

He was ~30 feet up a tree!

Apparently, the fire department doesn't rescue cats at night... My tallest latter is only 15ft or so... Just when we were giving up, he decided to risk it and climbed down! He tore 2 nails, and is exhausted, but seems OK. He eat some, and then dropped straight off to sleep.

Edited: And now it just started raining! Thank goodness S'more came in first

silly kitter! goes up the tree and doesn't come down! i've climbed up a tree to get my cat before, but that doesn't look like a super tree for people-climbing!

Hi Sam,

At least S'mores big escapade ended before it rained. My cat Katie did the same thing once. I thought for sure something had happened to her for she wasn't the kind to not come in at night. The next morning we heard meows and they were coming from a tree about, yes 30 ft up. She eventually came down her self too. She's never done it again. Get some rest S'mores.

Have a good day.

Hmmmmm... Collar in the bushes...
My civvie cat Suzy likes leaving her collar in strange places, too

Glad S'mores found his way :-D and not too worse for the wear.

Have a restful day!

What a story!
As to the losing 2 claws part....my Midora apparently was up on my dresser years ago and when she jumped off, one of her hind claws must have gotten "caught" on one of the drawer handles (this is a guess on my part). When i got home from work that night I found the claw and a few drops of blood on the carpet. I immediately called the vet. She suggested that I clean the foot with peroxide and watch it for a couple of days (since the cat goes in the litter box). She assured me it would grow back - which it did. You might want to do the same.

   WOW - and go S'Mores!! Mannie did the same ting once too - managed to rip out one of his claws. It was the same for us as it was for Midora: keep it clean, and watch it for a bit. Wounds like that are subject to infection.

I bet S'Mores does not repeat the performance.... :-D

Wow! I love the picture!!! You can really see the tree is huge and your lovely kitty is up every 30 feet of it...

My kitties were playing in the house years back and the fan knocked over onto Stella's foot. I found the fan down and a tiny bit of blood on Stella's Paw. We went to the vet and they wrapped it...and eventually the nail did grow back...

Thanks for the great wake up story! Glad to hear S'mores made it down before the rain.

Stu (GA) literally flew up into a tree, 20 feet above ground, when being chased by the neighbor's dog. Stu was declawed in front!! He hung on as long as he could, peed on the dog, and fell to the ground, landed on his feet, and stood down the dog! We were proud of him.

Scritches to S'mores!!

Some time ago when we lived in a duplex, our upstairs neighbor's cat climbed high up a tree with a diameter of about 16 inches on the bottom and about 5 where he stopped and stayed. And stayed. And stayed. Finally our neighbor attached a basket to a long pole, climbed to the top of his 20 foot ladder (leaned up against the tree) and held the basket up (via the pole) to where the cat was stuck. Darned if the cat didn't climb right into it.

Glad your kitty is safe.

Yikes! That is waaaaayyyy up there....glad he came down on his own and not in too bad of shape after his big adventure... ;-)

What a silly guy!! So glad to hear that he is back down safe and sound. Hope you all have a great day with your paws on the ground!

I would have fainted! Glad it has a happy ending and didn't need a fire department rescue. The tracking collar sounds really cool. My cats are all indoor cats. But what is a tracking collar?

Hi guys .. oh my s'mores! What were you doing up so high in a tree? Bet you have never been so happy to be home safe and warm .. Now next time, leave that collar on silly kitty! Have a great day!

I'm a little crazy, but I have this "loCATor" collar. I do get some strange looks when I'm out with the antenna scanning for S'mores!

He is still exhausted this morning, but his BG was still nice and low at 68. I was sure I was going to see some huge stress number!

OMG!!! S'mores that is an amazing story!! Moonie did that when she was a kitten, & was feral--She climbed up our big pine tree & wouldnt come down--till I finally found a food that was worth coming down for-TUNA!!
Glad S'mores came down & hope his nails will be just fine--Must have given you quite a night!!

Ok S'mores stay put from now on--Have a good tuesday!
