usual furry, purry boy this morning. lots of cheering while the food was being prepped, all sucked down in one great big inhale, anya's plate clean . . . all is well here.

we've decided to go for the SRT for punkin. that's the radiation treatment that zaps the tumor on his pituitary gland that causes the acromegaly. i've called Dr. Lunn's office this morning and left a message to get us started. now i want to do it tomorrow! the DH is going to take off from work and go with me - it's a 20+ hour drive to Ft Collins for us. i figured out how much the diabetic supplies are costing us - which is more than $1,000 every 4 months - and the cost of a year of insulin and supplies (at this dose, not even including if he continues to increase) would be the equivalent of the procedure - and then we might get more time with the little furball. it's probably crazy but i'm going to move ahead on it anyway. at least unless some other factor stops us.

So are you going tomorrow or that's just the wish? Wow....big decision and I know you've thought it through up and down!!! So does this also mean he will no longer be diabetic? And what is the % success on the surgery in terms of removing all the tumor? Prayers prayers prayers. I would do the same thing in your shoes.

Julie,

Very exciting news! I have been doing a lot of reading on the subject. It's what I would do too. Please keep us posted, I know I am very interested.

Have a nice weekend!!

more dose tweaking - hard to find the just right amount for him.

the thing with the SRT - i don't mind just adjusting punkin's insulin dose all the time. that seems like nothing with Mr. Flat Boy. don't mind the testing, don't mind the shots or the being "tied down."

what i really mind is seeing increasing distortions from the acromegaly - his feet look like a giant clown's floppy feet on a little cat. of course his tongue has been big for a while. i can see by the LB though, that his colon is also growing - megacolon is a problem with gigantism, and he's got that rattly breathing thing that shows up intermittently. i keep looking at his whiskers and trying to decide if the area is bigger. everything that i'm seeing on the outside is also happening inside of him - his organs are no doubt enlarging as well. the idea that i'm going to watch his body distort over the next year is very upsetting.

didn't hear back from CSU today - maybe dr lunn started her vacation early! i did already ask the vet's office to fax punkin's records to get it started. and ironically, i ran into the vet while picking up punkin's insulin refill today. small town! told him we were going to go for it, so i'd be seeing him soon.

no marjorie, i don't have it scheduled yet, just am mentally ready to do it. and actually, schedule wise we could've gone this weekend. some cats have gone OTJ within a month. Lanky is still on it one year later. seems to vary from cat to cat - i don't know what makes the difference. even if they're still on, the dose always drops considerably.

Wow, Julie!!! Good luck!! I can't wait to see how it all plays out!!

Punkin's numbers look really good today...go Punkin!!

Hi Julie, Good Luck!!! I'll keep sending my prayers from the other side of the world to Punkin. Punkin, be strong, peoples here in LL will give u power
