Hello LL
Yesterday

I unfortunately did not have a drama-free night... I was up for a long while with a migraine and then about 4:30 a.m. started my uncontrollable vomiting... so now I just got back from the ER right on time for Mr. H's morning drama!
He is technically at +11.5 right now so I am just going to wait until +12 or +12.5 before shooting. He is throwing the BIGGEST fit in the kitchen. He was very stressed when we got home because both of our alarms had been going off for hours, all the lights were on but nobody was home.. I put out some 1/2can HC + 1/2can LC but then had to take it away as soon as I saw his #.
Dose this mean another dose reduction, or is it another bounce?
I am suppose to go in to schedule my training hours this morning... in an hour.. but if Mr. H is going to be like this and my migraine medication still hasn't worn off, I don't know.
He's so upset! Shut up Mr. Howell you break my heart.

Re: 8/10 Mr. Howell AMBG 43

PMPS 56. I gave him 1u on the fat side. I put out the 1/2can HC FF + 1/4can of the Turkey&Giblets. I also noticed I have not been feeding him quite 2.2cans/day because he eats less at night, so I think I'm going to muck around with his feeding schedule.
Since I kind of blew my job opportunity I'll be home aaallllll day to test him but I'm hoping that he just gets his ducks in a row soon. Shooting at 56 was probably stupid but it was a big jump in 1/2hr and I need to get some rest.

Re: 8/10 Mr. Howell AMPS 56

i'm just SO sorry. wish there was some way to give you a hand with mr. howell - and i'm sending you virtual sympathy.

Re: 8/10 Mr. Howell AMPS 56

Sending you tons of healing vines and hoping that you get rid of that migraine very soon. Also, hoping that Mr. Howell surfs in the greens for you today. That's a very interesting AMPS that you have there, Mr. H.

Re: 8/10 Mr. Howell AMPS 56

Hi guys .. I'm sorry to hear you had such a rough night .. I know you're dealing with a lot right now .. take a step back and take a nice deep breath .. things will get better! Mr Howell is showing some nice numbers .. we all understand the sugar dance can be very frustrating, but you are doing great!

Re: 8/10 Mr. Howell AMPS 56, +3 58

Thank you everyone. You guys have been so awesome.
+3 58. Now I know if I want Mr. Howell to eat, he will only lick the gravy from the HC food and refuses to eat anything mixed with Turkey&Giblets. I put out 1/4can Beef FF and he came runnin'.

Re: 8/10 Mr. Howell AMPS 56, +3 58, +6 63, PMPS 139

PMPS 139. I'm going to keep him on 1u and see how his numbers level out since I cant guarantee I will be able to get up and check him at night. He's been in a good mood and has had a pretty nice appetite today.

Re: 8/10 Mr. Howell AMPS 56, +3 58, +6 63, PMPS 139

let's hope tonight is drama-free for you! were you able to reschedule your new job training?

Re: 8/10 Mr. Howell AMPS 56, +3 58, +6 63, PMPS 139

Thanks Julie, and yes I was, unfortunately I missed out on the first few days of paid training but at least they are letting me come in later.
And I am okay. My migraine and nausea returned and has persisted all day. I don't think the medication they gave me in the ER was adequate -- benadryl. Who has ever heard of benadryl for a chronic migraine.

Re: 8/10 Mr. Howell AMPS 56, +3 58, +6 63, PMPS 139

mr howell's avatar sure looks like my punkin! i think that every time i see his picture. i posted a video of punkin on loose lips today if you want to see the rest of him and see if you think they look alike.

benadryl for a migraine? never heard of that one. usually it's the big guns drugs that require you to have someone else driving the car after you get them. i don't get migraines, although i've had ocular migraines (eyes) but they are painless, but i have a few friends with them and i've had to drive one of them home after a shot.

glad you still have your new job! hope you can rest tonight, too. mr howell, are you listening?

Re: 8/10 Mr. Howell AMPS 56, +3 58, +6 63, PMPS 139

Ooooh my gosh that video of Punkin is soo adorable! He and Mr. Howell do look so much alike, I think my guy has got a few lbs on yours, and of course Mr. Howell is a bobtail so he doesn't have the big beautiful plushy thing  Also Mr. Howell's meows are so high pitched and meek, he usually will open his mouth to say the 'Meow' and only get the '...ow' part out. So he sits around squeaking like a mouse
Since I've come to college I've been to the ER about 3 times a year to get shots and IV fluids during migraines. I only ever got morphine one time and every time I ask for it I'm denied. They tell me I need to see my physician and figure out a better preventative method than just thinking I can go to the ER and ge morphine every 4 months. I don't want to ramble but I've been on everything from seizure medications, to blood pressure, to steroids, to anti depressants, and antipsychotic medication in the prevention of my migraines and they only seem to get worse as I get older.
My DBF was there to take me and drive me home, and leave work to get my prescription. but I only want to ask so much of him, you know? He does so much for us and I feel worthless, sitting at home and unable to find consistent work, and then burden him with my chronic illness, and Mr. Howell's FD. Between the two of us he has too much drama!

Re: 8/10 Mr. Howell PMPS 139, +3 27

+3 27 ---- WTF MR HOWELL!??!
He just got up and started mewing and going to the kitchen (it is exactly +3 right now), even though he barely touched his Beef FF dinner. I checked his BG and seriously almost lost it. Mr. Howell, come on man.
I put out 1/2can HC FF and I guess I'll be up all night making sure he doesn't do something stupid.
I only gave him 1u... why is he dropping so quickly?

Re: 8/10 Mr. Howell PMPS 139, +3 27

maybe mr howell has a mixed-feeling love affair with insulin - this is the 2nd time he's gone on insulin, right? perhaps he's aiming to go off again. that's a definite dose reduction for morning.

my friends with migraines have had similar struggles. it's a horrible thing to deal with.

Re: 8/10 Mr. Howell PMPS 139, +3 27, +3.5 62

+3.5 62. Phew!
Yes, this is his 2nd time with insulin. The first time he was diagnosed my vet strongly discouraged home testing, but when it was a different vet that told me he didn't need insulin anymore after I had taken him to my primary vet 2 times recently, and my primary declined to tell me this, so I decided something was up and I should just home test.
How quickly can a cat go back into remission after a diet change? Today marks his 14 days on a purely wet FF diet. I am all about that morning dosecrease.

+5 52. I put out the other 1/2can of HC FF even though he hadn't finished hardly any of his food from PMPS. I'm feeling quite loopy after today and I need to get some sleep. Hang in there, Mr. Howell!

I would get another test at +5.5.
We usually want to see at least 2, ideally 3 rising numbers, before you go to bed.

Good Luck.

agrees!

I hope you were able to recheck before bedtime....please print this link out if you havent already: Shooting & Handling Low Numbers

From the Don't Panic section of the link:

If your cat is testing in low numbers and you are not getting a quick response to your post, there are several things you need to do. (Low numbers are under 50mg/dL or 2.8 mmol/L.)

Depending on how carbohydrate sensitive your cat is, feed approximately a teaspoon or less of food with high carb (HC) gravy or HC food only. (If you have a cat with GI issues, using syrup plus LC food is an alternative.)

Test again in 15 – 20 min. Depending on the numbers, give more HC food.

Repeat the above steps every 15 – 20 min. until your cat tests in the 50 mg/dL (2.8 mmol/L) or above range for 2 consecutive tests. Continue to feed in small amounts to keep numbers in a safe range.

Test in 30 - 40 min. and repeat the test and feed process until there are 2 consecutive tests where numbers are stable or rising.
Test in an hour and follow the same steps.

DO NOT become complacent. If number have risen after one or two tests, it’s important to continue testing. Numbers may bobble up and down as the HC food and/or Karo wear off. DO NOT get one test where your cat has risen from low numbers into the 50s and go to sleep or leave the house. You are putting your cat in a risky situation. When in doubt, leave HC food out.
