Yesterday

I was so excited last night because Champ ate some FF Elegant Medleys food, but he then proceeded to throw it all up a few hours later. He didn't eat or drink anything after that, just slept. My daughter stayed up until 3:30 to check his BGs every once in a while since I had shot him at dinner time. Luckily, he stayed in the 200's. When I got up at 5 this morning, Champ actually followed me into the kitchen and I figured whatever had upset his stomach was over because he ate a nice helping of tuna fish. He refuses to eat any breakfast, though, but since he did eat the tuna, I went ahead and shot him, though I gave him a skinny dose. I know I won't have time for condos today because I'm going to be spending any time away from work monitoring his litterbox use (I hope he goes) and trying to get him to eat something.

BTW....I called the vet yesterday to let them know about Champ not eating, how concerned I was because he's diabetic and needs to eat, and asking about a dental. I was told the vet was in surgery and I would get a call at the end of the day. Well, surprise surprise...I didn't get a call. My diabetic cat isn't eating and they don't think I deserve a phone call. If they're that busy, I don't know that I won't to continue there, even though I've been taking Champ there since he was a kitten.

Everyone wish us good luck today!!

Re: 8/10 Champ AMPS 208 - won't eat again, shot anyway

Hi Patty, sorry to see Champ isn't eating, and how awful of the vets to not call you back. I would go with someone else who is at least going to be concerned about your animal's wellbeing. I hope he starts eating again soon, and you have a great day!

Re: 8/10 Champ AMPS 208 - won't eat again, shot anyway

Oh Patty, I'm so sorry Champ still isn't feeling well, and you're not getting any help from your vet. Grrrr!!! Did you try giving him any Pepcid? Maybe that would help settle things down for him.

I hope things start improving, and quickly. We're thinking of you!

Amy

Re: 8/10 Champ AMPS 208 - won't eat again, shot anyway

Hi Champ sending you some feel better tummy vines you need to eat for your Bean and Patty hope the vet calls you today nothing more frustrating when they are supposed to call and do not

Re: 8/10 Champ AMPS 208 - won't eat again, shot anyway

Good morning! Poor Champ! Wonder what is up with the guy? I can't believe (or maybe I can) the vet didn't call you back, especially when a diabetic cat won't eat. Hope you get a call today and get some answers!!

Lots of thoughts, healing vines, and prayers to you and Champ today Patty!

Re: 8/10 Champ AMPS 208 - won't eat again, shot anyway

I hope you find a way to get him to eat soon. Tess goes through these stages too. Sending lots of good appetite vines.

Hey Champers! you need to eat your fuds! You need KTSS to come and bring some soup? Or just some cuddles? We do that too! -- Tess

Re: 8/10 Champ AMPS 208 - won't eat again, shot anyway

Patty: I'm so sorry he threw up and won't eat today.

I do think it's time for a vet visit. I always worry about fatty liver disease in a chubby cat who won't eat. Not to scare you but it's better just to get his bloodwork checked out.

Hugs and healing vines.

Re: 8/10 Champ AMPS 208 - won't eat again, shot anyway

Hi guys ... sorry to hear champ isn't eating and is throwing up .. I find it so aggravating when vet's don't call back .. really makes you want to keep going back doesn't it? I hope champ turns around his appy today .. eat your fuds up champ!

Re: 8/10 Champ AMPS 208 - won't eat again, shot anyway

Poor little Champ.....c'mon buddy, you need to eat!! Just a little bit. Sorry your Vet didn't call you back....how frustrating!!

Sending eating thoughts for Champ....

Re: 8/10 Champ AMPS 208 - won't eat again, shot anyway

I'm sharing your frustration (nice way to put it) about the darn vet not returning your phone call. It just confounds me as to why a person dedicated to caring for poor, defenseless animals doesn't see the need to address a medical problem. Especially concerning an animal who has a chronic medical issue. That's exactly how I felt when I decided to leave our last vet. Too busy for my cat.....see ya! I hope that Chamoers is just dealing with a bit of a sour stomach and that whatever bug he has, goes away soon. I wish I could send 50% of Gus' appetite over to Vegas for a while. Sending good thoughts, hugs, and healing vines to our friends.

Re: 8/10 Champ AMPS 208 - won't eat again, shot anyway

i'm so sorry - geez - i hate it when the vet doesn't call back. i think i'd call again and express your frustration and concern for champ. that's just not ok.

wish i could have punkin chat with champ about eating. he has a lot to say about his own eating. lots of positive appetite prayers coming champ's way.

Re: 8/10 Champ AMPS 208 - won't eat again, shot anyway

((((((Patty))))) i'm so sorry Champ isn't eating. Have you re-thought about giving him kibble? Have you tried those FF hors d'oeuvre's? They don't really have any nutritional value to them and they are LC food, just anything to get him to eat.

I really hope your vet calls you back and you get some answers as to why Champ isn't eating. I'll be thinking about you guys today :YMHUG:

Re: 8/10 Champ AMPS 208, +2 180, +3.5 145, +4.5 113, +6.5 82

I called the vet office to find out why I haven't received a phone call yet. I told the receptionist that I had left a message yesterday morning and did the vet get the message. She looked it up in their computer message center and said that yes, the vet did receive the message, but I would have to talk to someone else because he's off today. So I asked her why didn't he think it was important for him to call me since we're talking about a diabetic cat who won't eat. She said she had done her part and that I could speak to the office manager. She put me on hold. She comes back on the line after a few minutes and tells me I can talk to another vet in the office, one I've never seen before. That vet then tries to get me to talk about Champ instead of explaining why no one bothered to call me. The most I got out of her was, "I don't know...I don't know...He must have gotten busy and didn't have time to make all his calls." I then was so upset that I embarrassed myself and started crying, which pissed me off even more!! She then proceeded to tell me that they would have to do x-rays since when Champ was a baby he would swallow nonfood items (he swallowed a shoelace and then hacked it up!!). I tried to tell her that he hasn't done that since before he was a year old and I really didn't think that was it. She said x-rays really needed to be done, $220. Then more lab work, even though he just had a second round of lab work done two weeks ago where everything was normal, another $100. I made the appointment for 1:30 today. Since it's now 1:35 and I'm sitting here at home on my computer, you can tell I'm not going. I didn't bother to call and cancel either. I have a call in to another vet who has great reviews. I just hope he decides to call me back.

As a recap, Champ ate about 1 oz of tuna at 5 a.m. today. When his BG dropped down to 113 @ +4.5, I knew he needed to get something in his tummy, anything. So I took a pate type food and smeared some on the tops of each of his front paws. He then proceeded to lick it off. As he cleaned off one paw, I smeared more on the other. When he cleaned that one, I smeared more on the one he had just cleaned. We did this back and forth for a looong time. He probably got only about a full mouthful total into him this way, but at least it was something. Then at his +6.5, he followed me to the kitchen and I put some tuna and tuna water in his bowl and he ate and drank a little bit of it, but not much. Because two people have suggested it, I'm going to try some unsalted butter, just in case it is a hairball. I'm going to make sure he gets some food into him today, come hell or high water, and I just hope that other vet calls me and Champ can be seen today.

Re: 8/10 Champ AMPS 208, +2 180, +3.5 145, +4.5 113, +6.5 82

Oh Champ Boy, please get your appetite back & feel better!! We are all sending eating vines & Healing white light to you!! Hope you can find someone to listen--How is the ER near you? I know the one I go to is nice & listen to what I am saying--More expensive, but they usually help me--Hope Champ eats real soon--So sorry you are having this problem with him--Big Hugs from us!!

Re: 8/10 Champ AMPS 208, +2 180, +3.5 145, +4.5 113, +6.5 82

Hi Patty, sending some please eat and feel better vines to Champ, I was thinking...about this new Vet who has good reviews. What about going ahead and making a consultation type appointment giving Champ's history and then see what the Vet recommends. In the meantime ask for hard copies all of Champ's records from the old Vet who never called back and hand carry them to the new Vet (or have them ready if you decide on this Vet). The new Vet may want to do bw again. Lots of hugs. I suppose you've tried some Gerber Stage two chicken baby food?

Re: 8/10 Champ AMPS 208, +2 180, +3.5 145, +4.5 113, +6.5 82

We're still thinking about you guys...were you able to see the new vet? Please feel better, Champ!!!!

Re: 8/10 Champ AMPS 208, +2 180, +3.5 145, +4.5 113, +6.5 82

any updates?

Honestly, I think x-rays are a good idea. A foreign object is always a possibility, or constipation could also make him not eat.

Re: 8/10 Champ AMPS 208, +6.5 82, +8 76, PMPS 82

Hi Patty - wow, what a day. I am sorry about the vet - that he didn't call. sad state of affairs. i hope all is well with champ, and that the second vet calls you.

paws crossed that this is nothing serious.

Re: 8/10 Champ AMPS 208, +6.5 82, +8 76, PMPS 82

C'mon, Champ... lets go for some dinner! Have you tried baby food yet, Patty? Willie always seems to go for that when he's in not-eating mode. Just look for ones with no onions. So sorry about the vet situation. I hate it when I'm so mad that I cry! Fingers and paws crossed that the new vet comes through for you!

Re: 8/10 Champ AMPS 208, +6.5 82, +8 76, PMPS 82-VET VISIT!!

Thank all of you sooo much for your positive thoughts and prayers!!! Obviously, Champ felt it all!!! I went to the new vet. They actually told me to bring him in right away. They did all the requisite lab work and this vet (who looks no older than my 19 year old daughter and whose last name is Blue!!) did an extremely thorough exam. He also sat with me for a long time getting background on Champ. I choose to wait there for the blood work (only 30 minutes) and the vet was astounded at how healthy Champ is, how great his blood work is. He said Champ's diabetes was VERY well regulated (it was 114 at the vet's). His white blood count was completely normal, indicating no infection. He thinks Champ got into something...a bug that didn't agree with him or something...and prescribed famotidine (which I didn't know was Pepcid) to ease any nausea so he will want to eat and mirtazapine to start tomorrow if Champ still doesn't want to eat after being on the famotidine. The vet even divided the tablets for me (half tab famotidine and quarter tab mirtazapine). We got home around 5:00 and I immediately gave Champ the famotidine (he struggled a bit, but it went right down). Within 15 minutes, he was in my office, sitting next to my chair, staring at me with his "give me something to eat look." I got his freeze-dried salmon and he ate and ate. I didn't give him too much, though, because his stomach has been empty for two days and I didn't want him to puke it up. At about 5:30, I gave him a bit of the FF Elegant Medleys and he ate it right up. His test feed shoot was at 6:30. He came into the kitchen with me and ate all his dinner!!! And his PMPS was excellent at 82, even though I had fed him some 10% just an hour earlier. I'm hoping he just continues to eat and be well. Paws crossed, people!!!!!

Again, thank you all so much for your caring support. It means so much to know I'm not alone and someone other than myself cares about what happens to Champers!!!

Re: 8/10 Champ AMPS 208, +6.5 82, +8 76, PMPS 82-VET VISIT!!

Patty, I kind of missed all the action today so I'm checking in very late. Glad you were able to get into the new vet today. Old vet sounds not so good! Wow on the pepcid working pretty fast and happy to hear that Champ ate some this evening. Praying that all goes well tonight.

Re: 8/10 Champ AMPS 208, +6.5 82, +8 76, PMPS 82-VET VISIT!!

YAY CHAMPERS!!!!

That's just awesome news Patty, i'm so glad everything is ok with your little man......whew!!

Re: 8/10 Champ AMPS 208, +6.5 82, +8 76, PMPS 82-VET VISIT!!

I'm so glad to hear that Champ is feeling better -- and EATING!! And even better, that you found a vet who seems very knowledgeable and caring.

Re: 8/10 Champ AMPS 208, +6.5 82, +8 76, PMPS 82-VET VISIT!!

Hi Patty, that is great news. He sounds like a really good Vet. The Mirtz works right away when you give it to him and sometimes makes kitty very talkative. Maggie just chatted away while on it. So glad he got you in right away. It sounds like Champ didn't even need it the Mirtz. Have a good night.

Re: 8/10 Champ AMPS 208, +6.5 82, +8 76, PMPS 82-VET VISIT!!

wow that's the best news yet on champ in 2 days! wahoo!

i'm feeling for ya on the crying on the phone - when i get worked up tears are right there & ready for action. it sucks.

so glad Dr. Blue is awesome! maybe champ was just making a statement that he needed a new vet who liked him better!

Re: 8/10 Champ AMPS 208, +6.5 82, +8 76, PMPS 82-VET VISIT!!

Very happy news tonight! What a relief. And you found a good new vet! Hooray!!

Re: 8/10 Champ AMPS 208, +6.5 82, +8 76, PMPS 82-VET VISIT!!

Great update for Champ! I kept checking to see how things were going. To hear he's eating again is just wonderful.
And the new vet sounds like a keeper.

I'm very happy for you and Champ!
Here's hoping tomorrow he will be feeling even better and have his normal appetite.

Re: 8/10 Champ AMPS 208, +6.5 82, +8 76, PMPS 82-VET VISIT!!

YES!! AWESOME!!!! A hooray on the new vet. I am SO HAPPY that Champ is being Champ again. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: 8/10 Champ AMPS 208, +6.5 82, +8 76, PMPS 82-VET VISIT!!

What a relief! I'm so glad he is eating again. The new vet sounds like a keeper too.

Re: 8/10 Champ PMPS 82, +1.5 56

I am so filled with relief for you both. Poor Champ obviously was nauseated and I don't blame him for eating if he was feeling like that. Thank goodness you found a vet who cared. To think: you call with a complaint about the type of care your cat is getting and all you get is a chance to spend another $300.00! The nerve. No apology or anything. Glad you decided to not go (and not call to cancel, too). Maybe this new vet will be more considerate of you as well as Champ. Have a better evening.

Re: 8/10 Champ PMPS 82, +1.5 56, +2 36

Oh goodness!! Champ ate really well for his PMPS and +1.5. I even fed him 10% at both meals. His BG keeps going down and now he doesn't want anything. I was able to get him to lick up some gravy from a spoon, but he's just not hungry enough to eat anything. I'm going to check him in a couple more minutes and see if he's gone up. If not, I'm going to have to break out the Karo.

Re: 8/10 Champ PMPS 82, +1.5 56, +2 36, +2.5 40

Yikes!!!! Hope it's a big bottle of karo!! He's being stubborn but we are so happy to hear he ATE!!!

Re: 8/10 Champ PMPS 82, +1.5 56, +2 36, +2.5 40

He's for sure getting a full 0.25 reduction tomorrow!! Until his appetite is completely back to normal (meaning he'll eat as much food as you'll let him), I'm going to be sweating bullets about numbers like these. I ended up having to syringe feed Champ some gravy. He didn't like it, but I kissed him on the top of his stubborn little head often so hopefully he realized I was only doing it because I love him!!
