Re: 6/21 Atlas AMPS 261 (Free Pizza?)

interesting article. a vet friend of mine alluded to this practice at the school he went to.
it's really hard to keep dry food addicts away from kibble when it's in the house. they always find it...

What I found interesting was following the link over to the 24 page dissertation. The idea that any gift, no matter inconsequential it may seem, actually holds sway and influence over the recipient. Vet doctors and human doctors too.

I often visit vet offices and drop off candies and business cards or sometimes donuts and coffee packets. While I have never had a recommendation from a vet to use my services, most will put my candies and cards out for a while. I guess I never thought about how much sway or how ingrained this idea is.

Yes, MudCat is my kibbler. After trying for a year to get her switched...she is an aficionado devote of kibble. So we only serve up EVO. Usually the overnight left-overs are a small handful of kibbies. I don't fuss too much about it because if Attie for some reason misses the last chamber on the auto-feeder...he does know where to go for the alternate. He generally only does that if he is running low....

Re: 6/21 Atlas AMPS 261 (Free Pizza?)

Have MudCat and Gordo been talking on the phone?. I have tried everything to switch him over to canned food. Nope! I feed him EVO too.

Hope Attie comes back down soon.

Have a great day.

Re: 6/21 Atlas AMPS 261 (Free Pizza?)

Up until recently, the practice of feeding the med students and residents, supplying them with pens, pads, reference books, etc. was commonplace. Clinics and physician offices were festooned with clocks emblazoned with pharma logos. Finally, people began to question the ethics of this practice. It has since been banned at many training institutions. Now, drug reps need to have special badges, cannot just stroll into clinics, and there is minimal advertising of drug company sponsored talks (that are typically at very nice restaurants). They still pay MDs to go around the country to give talks and the $$ is very good. It has also created a major shift in reporting conflict of interest.

Attie needs to lay off the pizza!

Hi! Free pizza, sure!
Sienne is right - it used to be common for drug reps to give all kinds of goodies, food included.. I work in the ER for a Health System & now they cannot do that at all here. No more catered in lunches, etc. Anyway.. I saw this video & think of all of our cats wanting the kitty crack Cat demands snacks

Well I figure if the worst he can get into is 10-20 pieces of kibble EVO...he'll be oK. It is not like he is eating a whole bowl of kibble!

@Sienne it is good to hear much of this is starting to fall by the wayside. But, as the article points out:

let me let the future Dr. Dally explain in her own words, which appeared in this last issue of the JAVMA (Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association):

It seems to still be very prevalent in the Veterinary schools. We often complain here that the training the vet gets in regards to nutrition comes from the food companies...like Hills.

Hey Nicole, ...yeah I've seen that video. Kinda' cool the kitty is demanding yet so gentle to get what it wants. Although I'd hate to have to make that one wait two hours for a shoot and feed! :o ohmygod_smile

We have two puzzle feeders so far. One is the phatcat you can get through shopping at FD, the other is an orange ball that rolls around and spills treats/foods.

You can create a homemade puzzle feeder box. Just take a small cardboard box and cut holes of a width larger than your cat’s paws, in random places. Tape the flaps of the box closed, and then toss some diabetic friendly treats inside.

Or try a homemade puzzle feeder tube. Just take a toilet-paper or paper-towel tube and cut holes in it. Secure the ends, taking care to make sure the tube rolls easily. Place FD treats inside and you’re all set.

Pure Bites are great options...
