Pepper is rapidly getting back to his old self. He's walking a whole lot better today, the neuropathy is fading fast even without extra B-12. He is also starting to play a little bit. :-D He's also getting a little shy of going into the bathroom with me now (our test spot). :YMSIGH: Knew his total cooperation was too good to be true.

Awwwww. It is so nice when they start to act like themselves again. Glad Pepper is getting better every day! Have a great weekend!

It also makes ME feel better that all this "sticking" him is making him feel better. :-D

Well the grandsons are coming over for the weekend. :-D This will give them a chance to watch and hopefully actually do a few tests and shots. They are my backup team...lol

The 12 yr old seems to be very keen on learning how even tho Pepper seems to hate him. He's never bit him but he hisses at him when he gets close to him. I have often wondered about this. Kyle says he has never been mean to him. I don't THINK Kyle has ever lied to me, but I have wondered why this is happening. Do cats just take a disliking to someone for no reason? Kyle of course is scared of him. He hesitates before touching him, Pepper reacts right away with a hiss and Kyle jerks his hand away before touching him. Pepper doesn't react like this to anyone else. What's going on here?

I'm glad Pepper is feeling better! Good question about the hissing...I don't know, maybe someone else will have an idea. I wonder if it's a reaction to Kyle's fear? It's great to have a backup person to test and shoot! Good luck!

BTW, your link doesn't work...my instructions must not have been very good, sorry! I'll link your condo below..

i've watched The Cat From Hell on animal planet a couple of times and one of the things the Cat Guy does is have people use treats to win over a hostile cat.

maybe if kyle had a little supply of treats and would try calling pepper to him and then giving him a treat, after a while he might like kyle more. could be kyle has handled a dog or something that has a smell that's upsetting pepper. idk, but it wouldn't hurt to try the treat thing.

glad to see pepper's have a pretty good day!

I don't think I've welcomed you and Pepper to LL yet so a belated welcome!!!! I think I saw you were asking about foods on another condo so think I'll hunt that down. You're doing great and I'm so glad to hear Pepper is acting like his old self!!

Enjoy your grandsons!

Re: 6-10 Pepper PMPS/267, +4/197

I sure seems like Pepper likes to visit the lower floors during the evenings.

I know that my kitties react to my friends' kids differently than adults. Younger kids can be noisy, move more quickly (or with toddlers, oddly) and I suspect they don't smell like adults. I think treats are a very good idea!

Re: 6-10 Pepper PMPS/267, +4/197

Funny thing is he doesn't seem to mind toddlers. They can even pull his hair and he doesn't mind. It seems to only be Kyle. Maybe it is the fear Pepper doesn't like.

We tried the treat, but Kyle chickened out at the last few inches and tossed it to him...lol Maybe by the end of the weekend they will be buddies.

Re: 6-10 Pepper PMPS/267, +4/197

I would suggest working at desensitizing both of them. Make sure Kyle understands that Pepper is reacting the way he is because he's afraid of Kyle. Rather than throw the treat, have Kyle put the treat a short distance from Pepper. Kyle should then sit there until Pepper eats the treat. Repeat the process a few times. Over the course of the weekend, keep decreasing the distance. Also, let Kyle feed Pepper (or at least put Pepper's bowl down). Providing food can be a powerful message.

Re: 6-10 Pepper PMPS/267, +4/197, +8/169

He didn't throw it, he just tossed/dropped it to the floor when Pepper was just inches away from his hand...Kyle isn't the bravest of kids...rofl They don't have animals at home and they come straight from school to my house on weekends so I don't think it's another animal smell.

Had Kyle pet Pepper while the 2 of us were snuggling just before this test, Pepper got real tense and meowed loudly and Kyle was afraid to continue.

Had Kyle beside me when I tested, then had Kyle give him his food afterward...rofl...Pepper was circling him, climbing his legs (doesn't have claws), meowing trying to get the food...Kyle was freaking....rofl...it was so funny I almost laughed out loud because Pepper can reach all the way up to his waist and it looked like Pepper was beating him up AND WINNING...

Re: 6-10 Pepper PMPS/267, +4/197, +8/169

sounds like pepper's reacting to kyle being afraid of him. i like the idea of kyle sitting near pepper's food over the weekend. don't think i'd rush it, let them go at their pace.

Re: 6-10 Pepper PMPS/267, +4/197, +8/169

It's been 45 mins. since we fed him and there is food left on his plate, well over a tablespoon! It's the first time he hasn't wolfed it all down in seconds. This is good news right?

He's been free fed dry food all his life and he always did make a fuss when it got low, long before it was all gone, so only having it there a few times a day must be a big adjustment for him.

Re: 6-10 Pepper PMPS/267, +4/197, +8/169

are you staying up to test him? because he's high enough that you're fine going to bed. we have to sleep sometimes!

i'd just leave the food out so he can nosh on it later if he wants.

Re: 6-10 Pepper PMPS/267, +4/197, +8/169

I wasn't going to take it, I figured he was saving some for later...lol

I don't sleep much more than 4 hours at a time so I take 2-3 long naps a day. I had a forklift run over my foot 2 years ago and even tho I was wearing steel toed boots it crushed my foot. I now have circulation and nerve damage in it and my pain meds only last about 4 hrs then I'm in pain again. The pain wakes me up then I have to wait till I can take more pills (6 hrs apart) then wait for them to kick in (about 1/2 hr). That's how I can test so often...I don't sleep normal...lol

Besides, when the boys are here we usually stay up till the wee hours playing games on the computers (we each have one here)...their mom gets so mad at me but I tell her grandma gets to spoil them when they come over here...lol

Re: 6-10 Pepper PMPS/267, +4/197, +8/169

Looking at Peppers numbers I think everyone was right about those pouches being higher carb then what the cans were. The higher numbers during the day was when I was feeding the pouches and at night I was feeding the cans and he had lower numbers.

I had my daughter go get more cans today so maybe his numbers will even out a little tomorrow.
