Re: 5/29 Trixie AMPS 149 +2 109 +4 52 +5 56

+4.5 - 53
+4.75 - 55
+5 - 56

She seems to be enjoying skating on the edge of that decrease!

We'll keep up the higher pokey rate for a little longer...

Re: 5/29 Trixie AMPS 149 +2 109 +4 52 +5 56 +5.5 49

...and we have ourselves a reduction!

I'm assuming we should go with .25, as opposed to shaving down her current .5, right?

Out of curiosity, I gave her a little Wellness instead of gravy to see if that brings her up. I'll test again in 15, and bust out the FF then if necessary.

ETA: +6 - 63. Yes, I would say the Wellness spikes her!

Re: 5/29 Trixie AMPS 149 +2 109 +4 52 +5 56 +5.5 49 - DOSE?

I wouldn't necessarily jump to the conclusion that the Wellness caused a "spike." This is around the time Trixie's numbers start to rise in a usual Lantus cycle.

Here's what I'm thinking. If it were me, I'd shave the dose. If you drop to 0.25, you are cutting the dose by 50%. That seems like a big decrease. At this stage, you want to try to keep Trixie on insulin as long as possible in order to give her pancreas as much support as you can. Since it looks like you're around to test during the day, if Trixie plans on moving quickly down the dose scale, you'll be around to catch it. The other side of the argument is that Trixie is newly diagnosed and not been on insulin that long. You might be OK dropping the dose to 0.25u. Like I said, if it were me, I'd shave.

Re: 5/29 Trixie AMPS 149 +2 109 +4 52 +5 56 +5.5 49 - DOSE?

Okey dokey, we'll shave it. I'm usually around till at least +4, and since I work so close to home, I am able to run home for checks when necessary, so yeah, I can keep close tabs on her.

Thanks, Sienne!

Trixie's first nanner...she spent about 15 minutes licking it, just to make sure no one else would dare go near it!

Awwwwwww....she looks so sweet with her nanner!!!! Congrats on the reduction. I've very envious. We only missed it by 2 points last night!!! :-D My fault with giving the HC. I need to do LC only from now on!

Have a great Sunday!!! :-D

That picture reminds me of J.D. with his nanner

Good luck with the dosecrease :-D

Re: 5/29 Trixie +5.5 49 +7 75 - Nanner Pic!

Thanks Patty!

I'm actually a bit surprised she pulled off the reduction. She's been surfing quite nicely lately, but her preshots haven't been super-duper. I also thought she was going to tease me with it, too, by hanging so close to the edge there!

Don't worry, though...since Champ got so close last night, it will definitely happen for real at some point - probably soon!

J.D. is so cute! Apparently nanners make the perfect pillows!

Re: 5/29 Trixie +5.5 49 +7 75 - Nanner Pic!

mmmmm, nom nom nom, slobbery nanners! wish i had some, too!

trixie's being VERY exciting today! good job handling her, amy!

Re: 5/29 Trixie +5.5 49 +7 75 - Nanner Pic!

Congrats on the dose reduction - and happy kitty with nanner! Funny how they LOVE those things....adorable picture.

Re: 5/29 Trixie +5.5 49 +7 75 - Nanner Pic!

Congratulations on the dose decrease.. That's excellent news. Trixie is a very beautiful little girl! and yeah those nanners are just like "kitty crack".
Have a great evening :-D

Re: 5/29 Trixie PMPS 184 - PreShot thoughts??

Thanks guys! I'm a little biased, but I think she's pretty cute. Funny thing....later on in the day, my senior civvie, Mario, seemed to think Trixie was a nanner...he was sniffing her with great interest, which is a pretty risky thing to do. She's a very lovey cat, but you don't push her boundaries! After he was done sniffing her, he was sniffing the basket she had been sitting on. It was pretty funny...obviously she was wearing Eau De Nanner.

Maybe we should suggest a stickie thread dedicated to nanner pics!

Now, my preshot question...sorry for the tangent.

Trixie has been doing some very nice surfing, and obviously had a busy first half of the day. But, her preshots have not been all that pretty lately. Is there something we should possibly be doing differently, to see if those numbers will come down and she has a flatter curve? Or is this another "patience pants" issue? I'm fine with that...just want to be sure we're doing all we should be doing.

I finally got the new insulin today...made it to Target just under the wire.

Thanks for any thoughts or ideas!!

Re: 5/29 Trixie PMPS 184 - PreShot thoughts??

When are you feeding?

It may be worth experimenting to see if you give a snack somewhere around +8 or +9 whether it helps to bring Trixie's PS numbers down. If her pancreas is working, a small amount of food may kick her pancreas into producing some insulin which would lower the PS numbers.

Re: 5/29 Trixie PMPS 184 - PreShot thoughts??

She usually eats at preshot time, and usually again around +2. We've been definitely not giving her anything after +6.

+8 or +9 snacks could be tricky. We can't go the timed feeder route, because we've got 5 civvies...we'd never know for sure who was getting it, plus we have some crazy dietary requirements mere. Hmmmm...I wonder how we could make this one work, without having to get up in the middle of the night, or without me running home from work....

Thanks, Tena :-D !

Re: 5/29 Trixie PMPS 184 - PreShot thoughts??

I just so happen to think Trixie is pretty adorable as well. ;-)

Love the nanner pictures and sorry i can't help you out with the preshot thoughts but i can bump you!

hi Trixie!
I have thoughts!
I bolded this part of Sienne's post, flashback....back in our first run at remission, we did this, and it was worth it.
we didnt have the timed feeder then, Luna had automatic human feeders  who took turns getting up at 3am for the little snack to keep him going, well it was mostly me. @-) we also have a civvie who is a piggy, so back then Luna was on a strict feeding schedule to make sure he got his share. For the day cycle, that was easier as I was home to monitor.
Luna was OTJ for 11 months :-D

This time around, we have the timed feeder for the daytime while we work, we're nowhere near at the +8/+9 snack stage, but the timed feeder does work very well otherwise. For multiple cats, you may need a couple of them, plus separation so each cat gets their required foods. So that is a bit harder, but I can assure you - well worth it.

Re: 5/29 Trixie PMPS 184 - PreShot thoughts??

usually the preshots are the last thing to come down. Hers aren't really that high, so you probably don't need to worry too much about them yet. Plenty of cats don't flatten out until right before they go OTJ. One thing that really helps, though, is when you are lucky enough to get a green preshot, shoot it! That should help her learn to shoot flat and stay green 24/7.

Re: 5/29 Trixie PMPS 184 +2 134

Thanks for all of your thoughts and ideas!

I guess, for the moment, we'll give Trix a little time to see if she'll her preshots down on her own. As much as I would walk to the ends of the earth for her, or any of my kitties, I have to admit that even our current shot schedule, coupled with working full time, has me more physically exhausted than I think I've ever been before (I never had kids...), so if I were to start getting up in the middle of the night for feedings, I would actually begin to fear for my own health. If things come down to that, I'll certainly give it a try, though.

I will happily shoot a green though...maybe a little nervously, but happily!

Thanks again...you all have given me much to ponder.

Amy
