Re: 5/26 Trixie AMPS 134 +2 167 +4 114 +6.75 163 PMPS 141 +2
We were feeding Wellness Chicken...she had been eating it for years, even before the diabetes diagnosis. But then we had BarfFest early this month; both Frankie and Trixie were sick, and they're the only two (out of six) that were eating Wellness. So, I completely pulled it and switched to BG with the occasional EVO. Suddenly, Trixie's numbers started looking great, and she was earning reductions. But, she was not loving the BG (or the EVO, really) - especially lately, so I decided to give Wellness a try, in hopes that the barf incident was far enough in the past. I picked up a few cans the other night; both Trixie and Frankie were thrilled! However, the very next day, food spikes started again.
As Sienne pointed out, Trix did have a reduction several days before the Wellness switch, so right now we're not 100% sure what is causing these yucky numbers. My first attempt to see what's going on is removing the Wellness, and if that doesn't do it then we'll think about dosage.
Of course, one other possibility is her insulin itself; it is over 2 months old. So I'm going to refill her script on Saturday, when I'm at Target. Like I said in Julie's condo the other day, I sure wish there is a way to know for sure if the insulin has gone bad or not...very frustrating to play this little guessing game.
So...we're in a watch-n-see holding pattern. IMO, the order we should do things is to try the food thing, then see if new insulin fixes the issue. If not, then obviously we're looking at a failed reduction.
Fun, fun, fun....
