Looking fabulous Trixie dawling. I hope you all had a wonderful day. It sure sounds like Trixie did. Have a great night guys!

Trix made it back down to the greens again  ! I'm a little surprised, given her PMPS, but she is, after all, a cat.

She goes for her dental on Wednesdayy. She has to be at the vet's by 6:15am, so the doc said no food after 8pm tomorrow. (She won't be getting her shot Wednesday morning, either.) This is only 2.25 hours after her shot. Could her not having access to food cause her to drop lower than usual? She usually has a few "snacks" (LC canned) up until about +4ish. Should we shift her shot a bit earlier, just to give her a little more time for food consumption?

Thanks for any thoughts...the pre-dental jitters have already begun.

Amy, I know exactly how you feel because Simon just had his dental on Friday. I was a nervous wreck! Simon had to be at the vet by 8:00 but they didn't do his dental until 1:00. He was allowed to eat at 6:00 am because the vet said it is ok for him to eat a little something if it is more than 5-6 hours until the dental. I don't know what the consensus is on this but I would be curious to hear what others say. Simon did not get any insulin at all that day. He came through the dental fine and was actually able to gobble up his regular canned food when he got home, even after 4 extractions! He was a little loopy but I was really surprised at how well he did. His bg was pretty low the first night but I'm having some difficulty right now with high bg. I really thing it might be because of the antibiotic he is on. We'll find out for sure in a few days when it is out of his system.

Trixie is looking fabulous today and I'm sure everything will be fine on wed. I'll be thinking of you and looking for your updates.

our vet said to feed punkin as early as possible, 1/2 amount and give regular insulin, then they planned to do his dental last.

i gave him 1/2 amount of food, 1/2 insulin, both about an hour early at 6am, and the vet did the dental around noon. punkin came through fine. kinda tricky to not do what they said about the insulin, but i consulted here and when they asked how much insulin he'd been given i was honest. they didn't question me more about it.

hoping trixie and you both come through happily!

I would follow your vet's instructions. You can always spread Trixie's food out over the first 2+ hours.

Once you get Trixie home after the dental, please get a test. Anesthesia can lower BG. Having an in-the-door test will give you a number to compare with your PMPS so you'll know if numbers are dropping. As Georgia mentioned, most cats are starving after a procedure. Do not give a ton of food no matter how much Trixie pleads. Anesthesia also slows GI motility and if she eats too much too quickly, Trixie will scarf and barf.
