Good afternoon,

Yesterday viewtopic.php?f=9&t=35411

Our computors were down until we went to bed last night, and then we overslept by an hour this morning, making our AMPS food and insulin 1 hour late. I'm not sure how the 1 hour late affects BG but I'm assuming she went a little higher. I will adjust tonights food and shot by 1/2 hour to compensate.

Here are the results from the BG test we had done at the U of M on January 26th, 2011.
I really don't know what to make of the results, if anyone with experiance has input that would be great.

Blood Urea Nitrogen 39 mg/dl Ref Range 12-39

LIH indices Lipemia of 3-4 may falsley increase Ca ang Bun
icterus of 3+ or more may falsely decrease amyylas;icterus of 4+ or
more may falsely decrease TP
hemolysis of 1-4+ may falsely decrease AST and falsely increase T.blli
5-8+ of any of the above serum indices may yield erroneous results
for all tests

The IM Vet told us that her
chloride level was dramatically low
bicarbonte level high
sodium low
potasium little low but not dramatic

we are adding 1/8 tsp of potassium chloride to her food BID to see if it will improve her electrolytes.

Thank you

Re: 01/28WhiskersAMPS 314 Results of full blood Panel eyes

Hi,

I just talked to the U of M senoir student who attended to Whiskers on her visits.
I did an internet search (bad bean) of electrolyte imbalance, and as some have mentioned that can be indicative of kidney failure as well as high blood pressure (which Whiskers has), she said that since her BUN (high end of normal) and creatinine levels are within normal
ranges they feel it may be a dietary issue, so that is why we are adding 1/8 tsp of potassium chloride to her meals BID. If the electrolyte levels haven't improved next week, then we may have to look at other causes and have the abdominal ultrasound. Keeping fingers and paws crossed it is only a dietary issue nailbite_smile .

Hi Cheryl - I really can't help with the labs - I hope someone will be along who can. It seems like the only problem may be the electrolyte imbalance?, which is so out of my league - sorry. I hope that the dietary change will help with that issue. I hope it is just a dietary issue - I would think that if there were kidney problem that the kidney indicators would be high too, which were not. Good luck!

Re: 01/28WhiskersAMPS 314 Results of full blood Panel eyes

I'm not good at interpreting lab results, but it seemed most of the values were not bad. Glad the vet has a recommendation on something to try. I think they would have flagged anything else that needed to be addressed.

Scritches to Whiskers and hugs to you.

Re: 01/28WhiskersAMPS 314 Results of full blood Panel eyes

Cheryl, I'm going to track down my notes from my Dr. Lisa consult... she had given me some things to keep my eye out for in future lab results. I'll find them and post them as soon as I can!

Hope everything starts going better for Whiskers soon!

Hi Christie, Celi, and Nina,

Thanks for visiting our condo, I'm hoping we can get Whiskers better regulated. And Thanks Christie.

Re: 01/28WhiskersAMPS 314 Results of full blood Panel eyes

Hi Cheryl,
You might consider cross-posting your lab results on the Health forum. There are some experienced vet techs there who may be able better to interpret the lab results. Good luck!

I do tend to think that since you are feeding a meat only diet, without the nutritional supplements -- including salt -- the issue may be dietary. Please discuss what you're feeding with the vet. Also, get a complete nutritional analysis from the place where you're getting Whisker's food. You want "as fed" values of everything in the food (not a guaranteed analysis).

I would also make sure that Whisker's is well hydrated. I add water to my guys food.

Right now, I don't know that I'd move to RO water. Whisker's may need the minerals since he's not getting them from other sources.

Re: 01/28WhiskersAMPS 314 Results of full blood Panel eyes

Don't know what it all means, but I'm sure you'll get some good feedback soon. Just wanted to say "hi" and we're thinking of Whiskers.

Hi Tessielou, Sienne, and Ella,

Thanks for visiting our condo, I hope you and your furbabies are doing well tonight.

Ella, I will cross post in health, Claudia and Rocket sent me an email about posting our lab results with a tab in our SS, so I'm going to try to work on that this weekend.

Sienne, I've been waiting for woody's to return my call, I tried calling them this evening, but they were already closed. I'm going to try to call them tomorrow.
