Good morning, furbaby friends. I wonder if I should play the lottery & pick the #s "1" "8" "2" seems to be Baby's variation today ;-)
I woke up this morning & was relieved not to give those eardrops. Baby is good.. furry, purry & furbaby fabulous. If I don't start seeing some green I am going to up her to 1 unit bid
I am thinking of her sister Sadi today - quite worried but I have a tendency to obsess & worry over both them. Anyway, Sadi is display noisy breathing, nasal congestion - this has been going on awhile & I thought it was "normal" but have decided to take her to the vet today because I don't hear Baby when she breathes. No other symptoms, no coughing, no discharge from eyes or ears or nose. No respiratory distress, just at times congestion. Please think of us today in regards to the vet visit. I did get a recording of the breathing when she was sleeping last night
She is not making these noises now - but breathing normal. I plan to get her lungs/chest xrayed today too.

Good luck at the vets. Same thing with Maverick and we just ordered some L-lysine. We actually took him to the ER a few months back for out of the blue nasal congestion. I was worried. Within a couple days he cleared up. He is asthmatic but it wasn't anything like an asthma flare up. Now just minor nasal symptoms. I put allergy things in all the vents, changed the furnace filter. He was hanging out in a carpeted spare room that is rarely vacuumed so maybe it was some sort of allergy. Just some thoughts for you. I'll be thinking of you guys today.

Ps. Pick up a lottery ticket :)

Re: 1/6 Baby AMPS 218 +6 182

Good Morning Nicole. Baby's starting the day off nicely. Is the ear looking good now? Must feel good for her, with no itchy drops and mama fussing with it.
Hoping for a good vet visit for Sadie.

Re: 1/6 Baby AMPS 218 +6 182

Morning Nicole - hey Baby - a hear a dose threat... Better get those numbers down, or more juice for you. You can do it, yes?

I hope all is well with Sadi - good vetty vibes your way. I agree - best t get it checked out. nice idea on the recording.

Re: 1/6 Baby AMPS 218 +6 182

best of luck for Sadi at the vet...and let's see some more "Baby-blues" (or greens?)

Re: 1/6 Baby AMPS 218 +6 182

I hope Baby gives you some good numbers today. Good luck today at the Vet with Sadi - Hope she is okay. I always go with my gut feeling and take Maggie to the Vet if I suspect something is amiss!

Re: 1/6 Baby AMPS 218 +6 182

Good morning guys! Nice numbers today baby, keep up the good work! I hope the vet visit goes good and they can figure out what's going on for sadi ... have a great day!

Re: 1/6 Baby AMPS 218 +6 182

Baby...ear problem done so now time to come on down to furbaby fabulous

I hope Sadi is ok...pls keep us posted. Has she had URI recently? Tobey had a bad bout with it a couple months ago and he still occasionally sounds snuffly. We've had him xrayed and U/S and everything is clear so we give him Standard Process Allerplex...seems to help him. You're a great mamabean to be on top of it!!

Re: 1/6 Baby AMPS 218 +6 182

a very nice start to Baby's day.
My thoughts are with you and Sadi, hope the vet visit goes well

Re: 1/6 Baby PMPS 189

We are home & the vet visit could not have went worse. Sadi was an absolute psychotic cat - growled, hissed, spit & scratched and lunged forward at the vet to the point the vet said that in order to do xrays or even an exam she would need to be brought in & sedated. I was crying & a bit of a mess, she was able to listen to Sadi's lungs & the lungs sounded clear - Sadi was so stressed & panting that she did not hear the breathing I described - except for the recording I did last night on my phone. She said she thought it was either something environmental here in my home that has changed (candles, scents, some sort of allergy etc) or some sort of fungus - but without doing an xray & being able to look down her throat, etc. it was impossible to say exactly what it was. She gave Amoxi Drops (2 pills a day) and mentioned an over the counter allergy pill (2 x's daily) too. She said I broght her in.. in 2009 with the same symptoms except there was sneezing too back then & that is how we treated it.

I am just upset because I wanted a physical exam, I told her I would be scheduling a dental/bloodwork in the future & she said that is when they could do xrays. My fear (because of the Internet) is that this is a growth on her lungs (Cancer) & if it is that.. nothing I can do. I am not upset with Sadi she cannot help how scared she was, just feels like a waste of time. I am not upset with the vet - her & her husband have been my vet for 10 years, but in a way I am disappointed a physical exam was not done, but I understand they cannot risk being attacked either :YMSIGH:

I probably handled it all wrong, but I did what I could & will see how the pills work out. Also, for the dental she said they would "box" her in.. putting her down in an aquarium type thing & they are sedated in a matter of minutes - that does not sound right to me either - I dunno. I am going to sign off for awhile, as I am too upset.

Re: 1/6 Baby PMPS 189 Sadi update

I am so sorry it was such a traumatic experience for Sadi and you. I've heard of the box you mention where they place them and sedate. My GA Siamese reacted the same way as Sadi, and this is what they had to do with him. My Vet actually seemed affraid of being scratched by him. I never liked how she always had to sedate him. This was a different Vet than the one I now have with Maggie. I would ask more questions about their method of sedation and ask to see the sedation carrier/box. I don't know. Let's see what others have to say.

Re: 1/6 Baby PMPS 189 +3 100 Sadi update

I'm sorry about the stressful vet visit and that you don't have any real answers to Sadie's problems today. I don't know much about vet things and this may be a stupid question, but is there something the vet can have you give Sadie at home before she gets to the vet to calm her a little?

I'm glad Baby is doing better today and her +3 looks terrific. Try to have a good night and get some rest after your busy day.

Re: 1/6 Baby PMPS 189 +3 100 Sadi update

Given the thread that Jill linked, and I do remember Dr. Lisa having fits about boxing/gassing a cat, may checking around to see if there's a veterinary dentist in your area might not be a bad idea. That way, you're going to a specialist who should be better skilled at anesthetizing a cat since they have to do so routinely.

Re: 1/6 Baby PMPS 189 +5 56 Sadi update

Thanks, everyone - I will read up on the link provided & explore options.

Re: 1/6 Baby PMPS 189 +5 56 Sadi update

dang it...wish it had been a better experience for you...
our vet went on a rampage one day (verbally) about the box sedation...she's not a fan of it at all..

Re: 1/6 Baby PMPS 189 +5 56 +6 58

I am so sorry. Sending lots of hugs. I am wishing the drops and over the counter allergy pills help. Are you giving l-lysine also? I have to post on how to use ours we just picked it up today for Maverick's slight nasal congestion sound.

Maverick went years not being able to be examined without being sedated. He has referred aggression and lashes out when scared. We do the rescue remedy and that actually seems to help a tad. Keeping him the bottom of the carrier - just taking off the top helps also and a towel to hide his head. So he's mellowing a tad in his old age. The car ride there is still quite stressful.

Hope you get some ideas for next time so its less stressful on both of you.

Re: 1/6 Baby PMPS 189 +5 56 +6 58

Nicole...I'm so sorry for the day you had, and poor Sadi. If you can't find a dentist, try and find a board certified veterinary anesthesiologist who could work with your dentist to do the anesthesia and make sure that person knows exactly what you want. (((Nicole))).

Nice run of numbers for Baby!!

Re: 1/6 Baby PMPS 189 +5 56 +6 58 **l-lysine Question

Thanks again, everyone - your friendship & well wishes and information are appreciated.

***Question, I see l-lysine mentioned on posts lately. I am not familiar with it, what is it? Can I get it at any store? Not for Baby, but for her sister Sadi. She is now (as of today) on 2 amoxi drop pills per day & 2 allergy pills per day (OTC), can I give l-lysine also?

Re: 1/6 Baby PMPS 189 +5 56 +6 58 **l-lysine Question

and it's a BIG bottle...

not sure about interactions with other meds...it's a supplement...but other, wiser folks should weigh in...

Re: 1/6 Baby PMPS 189 +5 56 +6 58 **l-lysine Question

Like with most things, there are mixed reports about L-lysine. It's an amino acid that is supposed to boost the immune system. I've used it when Gabby has had the sneezes. It seems to help but then again, I don't have anything to compare it to!! Jill had recommended it to me.

Re: 1/6 Baby PMPS 189 +5 56 +6 58 **l-lysine Question

Thats what I ordered also. There are coupon codes for first time buyers from iherb also. They were out of stock last week when I wanted to order so I ordered it from amazon. I haven't found out the instructions on how to give this to Maverick yet so I'll be watching your condo :)

How much do you give? Is it mixed in with their water?

Re: 1/6 Baby PMPS 189 +5 56 +6 58 **l-lysine Question

This is interesting. Our vet had us give L-lysine to our feline herpes cat Timmy, when he had a flare, which has only happened once. His flare consisted of sneezing, congestion, etc. the L-lysine seem to do the trick. Can't even remember how we administered it, it was a while ago. I do remeber I was surprised it seemed to help after a couple days, than no more sneezing. Why not give it a try?

Re: 1/6 Baby PMPS 189 +5 56 +6 58 **l-lysine Question

Ok, this is good news - I am going to buy some from that link & I will check just to make sure it is ok with her other meds! Thanks!

Nice numbers tonight!

I'm sorry that the vet visit didn't go so well. I'm no help with the anesthesia. As far as the L-lysine, it is used to combat the feline herpes virus (common cause of URIs). It may or may not help Sadi, but it's worth a try....it's an amino acid, as Sienne said. I just sprinkle it on the food, it is tasteless. My vet recommended it to me. It loses it's effectiveness if you use it all the time, so you should not use it continuously long term. I hope Sadie feels better soon!

I used to have a vet who came to the house--You can only imagine sweet little Moonie & Copper turning into psychotic maniacs the minute they saw him-
Both cats had to be sedated every time they were examined by him!!! They hated him!!
He gave them a shot & they would bcome drowsy, a few times Moonie jumped to the top of the vertical blinds & he would give her a shot way up high til she got loopy & I would catch her in my arms!!! Frightening!!
The vets we use now are so much more gentle & kind, they are hardly scared!!
Cats are panicky at any vet situation...I once gave Moonie a pill, & by the time we got to vet she was pretty sedated..Maybe you could do something like that before you get there?? I dont know except from our experiences...
Hope Sadi will be A-OK real soon--I know how upset you are, but I feel she will be alright--Big Comforting HUgs! from us!
