Purring, playing, pestering, litterbox done... It is funny how some mornings they seem to need to "investigate" a certain room in the house. Their "hunt" instinct being well defined.

I try to keep a fresh set of mice available at all times. As the mice are discovered in their hiding places new one's are rotated to new locations. Top of the cat tree, on the hearth behind the potted plant, tucked under the bureau cutout, left as a gift on a pillow in another room, in the tract of the sliding glass windows. The game is hunt and Attie isn't too good at it yet, but it is fun to see him be active, to see him learning to "check" the places and acting like a kid on an easter egg hunt. MudCat...she is very good at it. And she is very good about it. She finds one and that one is her mouse of the day. So Attie has plenty of time to find his too.

Good morning.
I see you have added a new P to the list....pestering. :-D
As long as the mice are not real it sounds like a fun game.

Good Morning Miriam...yes I've added a new P to the list. Last night it was at 11pm, 1am, and again at 4am. Sienne asked me to get some late night numbers, but I am so out of it Attie is lucky he gets walked to his feeder!!! And yes, there is food already in it...so why he has to wake me up... ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile

Is that Mudcat on the scale?

I think some cats really earn that extra P. Maverick sure does many mornings.

I love that you provide such enrichment for your kitties. That's so cool. Maverick also wakes me up to carry him to his food. It makes me wonder what is going on in that head of his. He goes all mushy and purrs his head off while I carry him to the living room and contently starts eating away.

How to get them into "The Game of Hunt."

First thing to do is use their favorite toy(s) and/or new versions of them. Start by simply placing them in a favored location. Cat tree, middle of their bed, obvious sort of thing. Do this when they are not looking or paying attention. Kitties sleep 80% of the time...so this should be easy. You can even use the horded nanners. Simply remove them for a day or two and then introduce them back. My guys love those little furry mice, so I use those. I have probably a total of 15 mice, but there are only 3-5 out at a given time.

Once they display and play at their easy "discovery" set them up for stage two.

This time it is a mouse nose poking out from under the sofa skirt, a mouse left on their food mat or empty plate, do they typically snooze in a window...put one up there too.

Then rotate back to step one. This will teach them to "check" all locations.

By the third week you should be ready to start placing them along their "trail." Don't stash them in the flower pot as they will topple the pots, but next or behind is just fine. This is when you can up the anty and start placing them into the hutch cut outs etc.

Attie today found the one under the linen closet door. What a happy cat he was to have "caught" his mouse!!!

This can also be done with treats.

~O) ~O) Looks like we're warming up the lodge again for a few days...quite a bit of snow with some lake effect for the weekend.

Gary stopped by and got a warm meal plus some kibbies.

Attie was frisky this afternoon and I laughed pretty hard at him doing his big ole butt wiggle for the game of chase.

Beautiful big kitty up for adoption (free from Westlake Police Animal Control) posted up on facebook...must resist temptations....13#, neutered super friendly male...

Butt wiggle for a game of chase LOL.

The kitty is adorable - the pic in the sink is the cutest. I hope he finds a loving forever home. You have such a big heart.
