Last post: I'll have to go back and add it in

WCR: He's purry and loving and snuggly BUT I noticed earlier he was holding his lip funny, but he ran off and hid before I could take a look. Now hours later, I'm able to see why... one of his fangs (canines) is gone. He's had redness on the gumline for some time, I can't remember what the Dr called it, but at the annual she basically said he had some sort of sores that she related to diabetes. I can't tell if the entire tooth has fallen out or if its snapped off and left the root exposed. The more I look, the more it looks like theres an exposed root. It's very red and he's not eager to let me examine it very thoroughly. He's still eating and grooming himself and purring. I'm not even sure if my vet is open tomorrow. So much for trying to get caught up financially. I went from feeling like I might be possibly having a chance to pay down some of my debt ($20,000 in CC's, over $1300 in vet bills, and behind on everything else) when I move to the smaller, cheaper place in a week to now feeling like I'm drowning in debt and never going to get out... really sick to my stomach.

i'm sorry. sometimes it seems as if it's not one thing, it's another. hope you can him in to see a vet soon. i'm sure they'll want to get some xrays to see what's going on.

Hi Jordan. Wow on the tooth/canine. I hope it works out OK, but would imagine that you'll have to make a vet visit - so sorry. I do know how tough it can be - been there too. I wish you the best. One of my civvies managed to do the same thing. hers is broken at the gum line - she's done fine with it, and it no longer bothers her. We never did find out what had happened. She was a shelter cat, and the tooth thing happened before we got her. I hope all is ok with Willow.

((((Jordan)))) hopefully it won't be as bad as you think, though I think you do need to get it checked out. Good luck!

I wonder whether the vet used the terms FORL or resorption. It's a syndrome in which the roots of teeth dissolve, leaving the tooth vulnerable to breaking.

Kitty has this, so I've read a bit. Some vets say it isn't always painful, and Kitty doesn't seem to be in pain. But if there are external lesions, or exposed roots, it can be painful. Maybe your vet's office can provide some bupe for Willow until a full exam.

If you can get the root extracted, Willow should do fine -- but yes, I know, another expense. It seems never-ending, doesn't it? Sending healing vines for Willow, and hugs to you.

Definitely getting it checked... it's just a major financial blow. Most places around here seem to be open half a day tomorrow so I'm hoping the vet's office is doing the same. I believe this is tooth resorption or feline oral resorptive lesions.

Oops... Thanks, yes Kathy, I believe that's what the vet mentioned. I know he had lesions at his annual but the said it was early and he was showing no signs of pain. She wanted to revisit the issue if we noticed in changes in him or his mouth. Fingers crossed that the vet is open tomorrow.
