Yesterday
Happy Friday everyone! I don't know HOW Michelle and Mannie do this every night!! :lol: I am a mess! @-)
Even though I gave him his snack early last night at +3, he still plummeted an hour later from that 88. Seems so long ago... oh, and Magic Poops had appeared too!

I was absolutely exhausted and ready for bed when I got that +4=44 reading last night.
My cell phone alarm was by my side as I napped on the couch and we only malfunctioned three times (at the crucial +8.5 and +9 and +9.5 hours) There is a big lapse there and I am sick about that. Shadow was so perfect as he napped on the testing towel for awhile and then moved to the coffee table. I am so fortunate that he is so good. The hours are a maze of straining HC gravy, adding karo and syringing my boy.

You see, Shadow doesn't eat when he goes low. It seems that any number <60 cause food to become unrecognizable to him. Or, he is just not hungry at all. I learned this about my boy that first 4am low I got way back in the beginning. I was in a panic but somehow managed to get a plastic syringe and get gravy down his throat. I have been doing that ever since. He will not eat. I envy you out there who have kitties who just love their gravy and will cooperate. You are very lucky. But, I am happy that he is so good when I syringe the stuff down his throat...he is really unbelievably wonderful about it! I am fortunate that I am retired and do not have to leave during the day......

I was so tired last night...it hurt...and I whimpered and shook, but there was no one to empathize with me. DH was already in a deep sleep and I was left to pray that I would be able to manage checking him all night. I am so afraid that I will just fade out and not wake....I am really terrified about that. As I said, Shadow is no help when he goes low.

Of course, Raja became like a Great White Shark as she cruised around...sniffing gravy in the air and waiting for a mistake by the old woman. I have been know to be so focus on Shadow that I leave gravy unattended. But not last night. Poor Raja sat on DH's recliner all night, trying to nap in between the alarms and the syringing....no gravy coming her way. I can honestly say that it was like the worst nightmare...being up and seeing those numbers not budging. When he vomited, I had to clean that up knowing that he would drop again. Just when I thought he was rising, he would drop; over and over this was repeated~my bed was never to be seen last night. He saw his 3rd <50 number this week so he got himself a dosecrease this morning. I see that his breffis didn't bring him up too much at all.

I feel as if I have been partying all night...nauseous and shaking...but my hangover is not from having a great old time. I am just thankful that I did manage to catch most of his numbers and not totally pass out. nailbite_smile Looks like I have miles to go before I sleep...

OMG. Pat! Even before I read your words, I knew you had a horrific night of no sleep and tons of worry. That long list of Shadow's numbers showed what was - and still is going on.

Shadow not eating when low is such a scary and difficult problem.

I hope he gets to a point today that you can take a good long nap - in your bed.

Lord, woman! what a night! we'll start off our greek chorus with a chant imploring Shadow to come up to safer numbers, and then sing a lullaby for you.

i often think this dance is designed for the young...and then i wonder how many of them would stick with it once they see how draining it is.

I am thinking now that I should have lowered him the .25 instead of shaving...is it Monday Morning? :roll: Nah...but I am second guessing myself. Part of the problem is that I am sleep deprived so that skews the conclusions one draws. I figured that he would be bouncing and that the dose needed to just be shaved a tad...

Oh Pat you and Michelle are truly the testing champs. I struggle trying to get checks at night just for monitoring. You are exhausted but what a woman. ;-) I hope you get some rest today and that Shadow comes up 30 or so points so you can. How high does he have to be to eat on his own? OMG Pat, the string of numbers really tells the tale! You do such an incredible job with Shadow, especially since he won't eat the gravy when he gets low!! That IS scary....but you always make it look like a minor detail. Great job, as always, managing his lows! What a long tough night for you! :YMHUG:

Mike and I were laughing the other day that this is evidently God's idea of a joke that we didn't want kids and so now when we're in our 50's, we're up all night quite often :lol: :lol: I know that doesn't apply to you but it's like "wait!!! I need my sleep"!!

Get some rest when you can and have a good day....and we've all missed those alarms!

Umm...Pat? I'm feeling a bit guilty here, and I think I owe you an apology. I said in Raja's condo yesterday something about if only Shadow would follow in her footsteps... I'm exhausted just reading the string of numbers. You are truly an amazing woman. Sorry Celi blew your cover, tho it does explain so much. :lol: I'm sure after you get some sleep (soon I hope) you'll be just thrilled with these numbers tho! What a show Shadow!
