WRC: All P's Very Present

Good Wednesday Morning Everyone ~O)

Please pardon me for not posting last night. My appointment was over 40 minutes away. After business, got home JUST in time to shoot at 87 and realized (just before Wal-Mart Pharmacy was to close) that I was out of strips!!!! (I knew that but forgot to stop on the way home trying to get here in time to shoot ohmygod_smile ). When I came in the door, Gandolf, who typically greets me at the door, did not. Even calling he didn't come. I had to go get him. He was in his usual upstairs spot but was just waking up and seemed groggy and listless. He had not eaten ANYTHING since I left. Nothing! The litter box, too, was unused. Shot 2.5U at 87 anyway and had to jet to the store and back (& and pick up something to eat for myself...it was crazy). So, to shoot and leave at 87, knowing he hadn't eaten a thing and him turning his nose up at all the LC I put down, I fed him some HC/LC mixed )which you can see what it did. Did the store thing, came home, tested and then hit the hay (had him sleep with me so I could watch). I do beg your pardon.

But we're back on track this morning. Also, he's very much "himself" this morning. Butting heads, asking for food, checking things out. Maybe his body has to go through an adjustment period to these low numbers.

( BTW: the presentations went very well and I have 2 new clients! and, in a different location, the start of a new program! They both went well! TYJ!)

Wishing all our buddies in battle a victorious day with lots of progress! Thank you all for your support and kindness!

Re: 11/03 Gandolf AMPS 147 +1 53

Cee, I'm very concerned about Gandolfs numbers this morning....he was dropping from your +11 to AMPS, and has dropped a lot since you shot....I would give get the karo syrup out and put some on a little HC food and give it to him NOW.

Re: 11/03 Gandolf AMPS 147 +1 53

What Laurie is telling you is exactly what I do with Gabby when she pulls this silliness. Add a slurp of Karo plus some gravy to Gandolf's food. This is an early, big drop! You need to get in control of the numbers.

Please test in 20 - 30 min.

Has Gandolf eaten? Is his appetite back on track this morning?

Re: 11/03 Gandolf AMPS 147 +1 53 +2.5 37

Just tested at 37. Yikes! Thanks for the "heads-up" Laurie. Fed 1 Tbsp. HC food w/ gravy. Will test again in 15 minutes and give more if needed. Sound good?

P.S. Does that mean Gandolf earns another dosecrease down by .25 this evening?

Re: 11/03 Gandolf AMPS 147 +1 53

I see you tested at 2.5=37. I do hope you will come back and read this Cee..

Please test every 15 minutes. That little tablespoon HC might not be enough to bring him up. Please add a drop of karo to more HC and give that to him to bring his number up.
You will need to test every 15 minutes form now on until you see his number is higher....
Once he starts to rise, I would test every half hour until he is up in the greens and maintaining the higher number.
They sometimes wobble back down if we give them HC and karo, so you need to keep close watch on him now.
Please post your new numbers as you get them, okay?
I hope you come back to read these posts....

Re: 11/03 Gandolf AMPS 147 +1 53

Cee, when you see a big early drop like that, you need to act to boost her numbers up and test frequently. The insulin is just starting to kick in, you need to get those numbers up ASAP. I don't want to panic you, but this requires action NOW to prevent an emergency.

Give him more HC gravy with karo now, and watch him closely....if he starts to act at all groggy, odd in any way, rub karo on his gums, ok?

Yes, that means another decrease..talk about that later.

Keep testing every 15 minutes, give more karo and HC gravy every test for now and post the results for us, ok?

Re: 11/03 Gandolf AMPS 147 +1 53 +2.5 37

Just tested at 42. 10 mins. later tested again at 50 Yay! Will test again in 30 mins.(his poor ears). If he stays up how shall I feed him. LC/MC? What's a good number to hang at in the greens? What's the absolute lowest number we prefer to "low" to? Thanks everyone for the wise- watching. Hope a little rubs off on this bean. Gandolf says "Thank you very much". He's so glad his bean has this forum to come to too. He's sure it's made his ride smoother than it would have been otherwise. Not to mention so much SAFER.

Re: 11/03 Gandolf AMPS 147 +1 53 +2.5 37

No, Cee, you need to keep giving him HC gravy and karo every 15 minutes and testing every 15 minutes until he gets up over 60 at least. The insulin is just starting to kick in, he will be dropping fast! You need to keep ahead of the numbers.

Give him more HC gravy and karo NOW.

Re: 11/03 Gandolf AMPS 147 +1 53 +2.5 37 +3 50

Here are the directions for handling low numbers.

I'd prefer to see Gandolf SURFING in the mid-60s. Follow the instructions I linked. This does not mean one or two tests. You have to be vigilant because numbers wobble around.

Cee, I'm glad to see the 50, but I would continue to test every 15 minutes for now and keep giving HC gravy. He is likely to drop again, since you are not near nadir yet. Did you see Sienne's post? Please look at the link in her post, and keep testing every 15 minutes, ok? Please keep checking this thread often, and post updates...we will be watching for them.

Re: 11/03 Gandolf AMPS 147 +1 53 +2.5 37 +3 50

For now, use the HC gravy, you don't want him to get too full to eat because you could be feeding frequently for hours....we want to see him above 60 and staying there.

Re: 11/03 Gandolf AMPS 147 +1 53 +2.5 37 +3 50

+3.5 tested at 54 and fed 1 fat Tbsp. of HC w. gravy. Except for the ear pokes, he's loving this. Gravy is just one of his favorites.

Great post Sienne! Read that yesterday too but it's really talking to me today. Application & implementation. Thanks!
Will test again in 15 mins.

P.S. OOps! Cross posted. Will only give gravy from now.

Re: 11/03 Gandolf AMPS 147 +1 53 +2.5 37 +3 50

Just tested at 70. OK to take it to every 30 mins. now? Fed him a fat Tbsp. of HC ( had cross posted on that), but he laps up the gravy anyway and leaves a bunch of the solids. Gravy Lover!

Re: 11/03 Gandolf AMPS 147 +1 53 +2.5 37 +3 50

Yay, glad to see that 70! Yes, ok to test every 30 minutes now. Good job, Cee!

Just FYI, the reason I said to use the gravy....most of the carbs are in the gravy, and the gravy works fast to boost numbers. The food slows the effect down a little, although it lasts longer. So, use gravy when the numbers are very low to bring them up quickly, then use food with gravy when the numbers get up higher to help keep them there.

Now that he's higher, you can use a tsp of food to help him surf...you can try LC or MC, keep testing and see how it works. This is great data for you, so try to make some notes of what you are using and when so you can refer back the next time you have low numbers.

Great info in Sienne's post, I suggest you print it out and keep it handy.

LL DAILY NEWS HEADLINE: AND YET ANOTHER SAFE AND SMOOTH LANDING IN LANTUS LAND BY THE WISE & EXPERIENCED!!

Avoiding a dangerous emergency crash landing, Laurie, Sienne and Pat negotiated a smooth and safe landing for the inexperienced "newbies", Cee & Gandolf. New Members Cee & Gandolf gladly share their experience with this reporter and the readers how that these "wise & experienced" helped them to land safely and to continue to surf green successfully with their keen observation and coaching skills. Cee says "Oh yes, please quote me on this... From high to low and up again, it's these folks here that have made this possible and to happen without any serious incidents. All thanks to them, and to the Lord who led me to these skilled & generous folks". This reporter asked Gandolf, (the sugar kitty dancing this sugar dance) how he feels about all this and he answered with gusto! "I really like it when they tell my bean to give me the gravy. AND I love the way my skin and fur feels since my bean hooked up with these smart beans (don't tell her I said this but she REALLY needs the help). Now if you'll excuse me, I've got some green surfing to do!". If the reader will take a little time to read the different posts in this forum, you will see the great work these fine folks are doing for so many in Lantus Land." LL DAILY NEWS REPORTER signing off.

(OK, have a little extra time today and couldn't resist. You folks made "news" in our day. Thanks!)

Just tested at 80.

Will keep watching and move to the MC/LC food. How cool it would be if we stayed  for this whole cycle.

Re: 11/03 Gandolf AMPS 147 +1 53 +2.5 37 +3 50

 Cee, you're very sweet! I'm just happy that he's in safe numbers now! I would try the LC or not feed the 80 and see how he does with it...keep testing. Good job!

I forgot to say earlier....congrats on the presentation and the 2 new clients!

Re: 11/03 Gandolf AMPS 147 +1 53 +2.5 37 +3 50

Hey....I missed your question in one of my condos...here's the information on the bowls you asked about. Nice job today.

I got three little bowls...3" in diameter at Pier One....I only put a little food in the bowl......And then I started putting a folded paper towel underneath the bowl to raise it up a bit.....Curry didn't like sticking her whole head in the feeder.

Here's the link....got the small 3" ones: http://www.pier1.com/Catalog/Dining/Din ... fault.aspx

Re: 11/03 Gandolf AMPS 147 +1 53 +2.5 37 +3 50

This is a new habit that Gandolf has learned...go low, get gravy. Hmmmm. Not a bad idea!
Very nice job Cee!
