Is it normal for different meters to be so different. =+6 today on Contour was 146 (yeah) and on Relion 176 (boo) Can there really be that much difference between meters or am I doing something wrong with one of them? Been using Contour since day one but just got a ReliOn Ultima. Not sure now I want to use it if it is so much higher!

I used the Contour in the beginning and then bought a Reli-On micro....the opposite was true for me. The Contour was much higher. I liked the price of the strips for the Reli-On so I stuck with that. Strange, isn't it? Well, there is a difference between brands. And even two of the same brand can have different numbers. So no, it's not you....
Nice blue any way for Imogen this morning!!

Nice blue numbers for Inogen--Looks like you are doing a good job! And a green yesterday!!! Inogen is liking this dose!
I use accu check aviva-more expensive, but I got used to it & it is pretty good for us! Relion is good too!

I'm just nervous that 30 points is a big difference. I don't want to assume she is doing well when she may in reality be much higher. This just totally bummed me out!!

Hi! These meters all just put you in the ballpark. They are not intended to do more than that. You'll go crazy always comparing one against the other!! You can even get different readings with the same meter when the tests are done within a minute of each other. Pick whichever one has the least expensive strips (almost certainly the Relion Ultima) and stick with it. I found the Ultima to be excellent, and you can't beat the price of its test strips.
Best of luck.

You want to get enough information that you are following Imogen's trends. Laurie always says Tinkles numbers vary from one ear to the other. Elle is right and I believe I read here somewhere that a 30% meter variance is essentially the same number. Don't let it make you crazy,

If you look @ Spitzer's spreadsheet, I did some double tests w/ the ReliOn on 10/16/2010, when his numbers were low.
I was told the variability increases the higher the number; his were in + or - 6 to 7 when under 100 & 11 over 100, with a limited # of tests.
I thought my vet would want me to re-check on the lower #s, so when I could, I did. She wanted me to get an AlphaTrack from them @ $200 for a kit w/ meter, strips, etc. I opted for the ReliOn and inexpensive supplies.

I know! I have to keep telling myself that! happy to be even under 250! First all blue day!! we'll see what tonight brings....

really beautiful day.

Try not to focus too much on one number. Meter variance is normal, and you can get varied readings even using the same meter on the same blood drop!
