Yesterday's Condo

Morning everyone! ~O) Raja went over by the vertical blinds by the slider after eating this morning. She kept her back to me but when I grabbed her, she acted all surprised that she was getting a shot. She must be feeling so much better in these lower numbers. I upped her does a little this morning since everyone thinks I should be more aggressive with her and I totally agree.
Thank you Monique for your post about Eos...she does not have diarrhea nor are there any signs of fleas on either of them. they did have that bout with the food allergy a few months ago where they both got itchy and scratched their fur off in different places. Tena suggested Revolution instead of Advantage.....thank you for that!

The vet just said to put Advantage on both of them...she mentions that all the time when she see anything wrong with their fur/skin. She says to not worry about the Eosinophils. One of the vet techs said "You see? THIS is why we shouldn't give copies of this to YOU people...you are always asking questions about it!!"
I said" Well the type is in BOLD and is shows HIGH....so I think it should be addressed!!!"
Shadow:
Eosinophil =18 (ref 2 - 12%)
Absolute Eosinophil =2232 (ref 0 - 1500 /uL

Raja:
Eosinophil =54 (ref 2 - 12%)
Absolute Eopsinophil = 10962 (ref 0 - 1500 /uL)
Neutrophil seg = 24 (ref 35 - 75%) Low
Remarks: sklide reviewed microscopically Neutrophils appear slightly toxic Large platelets present. RBC morphology appears normal.
Lipase = 285 (ref 10 - 195 U/L) taken from CBC 2/23/2010

I linked their lab results to my signature yesterday. Thank you again to Linda, WCF and Jill for stressing the C & S which should be back in a couple of days. If there is something going on with her that caused her higher numbers, the insulin alone is not enough. The more I read the more I question these things on their reports. Now, why do they do a Chem 27 on Shadow and yet they do a Chem 25 on Raja? Amylase and Lipase were left out of Raja's report...and yet her Lipase was elevated in the CBC done in Feb. I will go sit down and be quiet now.
Thank you for listening! Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday!

Re: 9/26 Raja AMPS=158

Looks like it is a good thing you are getting the C&S.
Toxic neutrophils exhibit a variety of nuclear and cytoplasmic abnormalities in Romanowsky-stained blood smears, and are associated with inflammation and infection.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16496919

Neutrophils rang a bell from all the info we are getting about John's DB's cancer treatment. He just went through a second round of chemo and they are watching for a drop in his neutrophil count. If it goes too low he must wear a mast to avoid getting infections. Neutrophils are a type of white blood cell, which if too low raises risk of getting infections.

Re: 9/26 Raja AMPS=158

Hope you have a nice Sunday, too, Pat and Raja and Shadow.

Re: 9/26 Raja AMPS=158

Thank you Ann...I had read that yesterday...it really makes me wonder. All the values that were flagged in the report ended up being a message to me that "all is fine and there is no infection." Also, the same trace blood in the urinalysis is there as compared to early August when that same amount of trace blood brought Raja to a 14 day prescription for Clavamox! It is all just making me wonder what is going on. But, I am "overly conscientious" according to the vet techs there. :YMSIGH:

Re: 9/26 Raja AMPS=158

Nice amps for Raja today. I didn't know that about neutrophils. We learn so much from this Board. I think we are all pests to our vets, cuz we learn stuff here and then we keep asking questions. So you just keep on asking those questions, Pat. We often know our cats better than the vets. Enjoy your Sunday!

Re: 9/26 Raja AMPS=158

Look at you Raja....that's a nice blue number this morning. Your mommabean is taking such good care of you....

Re: 9/26 Raja AMPS=158

hi pat - love the vet stuff. omg - ask away! Sometimes I think vets brush off things that they shouldn't, or at the time see no concern with. Drives me nuts. Good luck - keep after them. :-D

We use revolution here too - I like it - works very well.

Nice number for Raja - so agreed too on the being aggressive with her dosing.

have a great day!

Re: 9/26 Raja AMPS=158

not that i promote contact sports, but did you feel any temptation to slap the smug of the vet tech's face?

Re: 9/26 Raja AMPS=158

Good morning Pat. I can't stand that attitude that the vet tech has. They don't want us to know anything, so we don't ask questions. I've been to doctors like that. I overheard a nuse in the next room complain to the doctor about people learning things from television. She was referring to a commercial that was airing at the time, as though people can't read for themselves.
My vets are wonderful. They welcome the client's involvement, and knowledge.
Keep on asking those questions, and come here and teach us what you've learned. :-D

That's a nice am number for Raja.

Re: 9/26 Raja AMPS=158

whether it's a person or an animal, you have a right to know and understand what the test results state. If this tech were working for a human doctor and the patient asked questions, they wouldn't get that nonsense and of course wouldn't be told to be advantix on themselves.

Information is key and understanding that information is vital. I learned the hard way and to the detriment of Maui and my others that not getting copies of the reports, trusting what the vet says as gospel is just bad form. If the vet or tech can't handle you being an informed client and asking questions then they are in the wrong business.

This makes me so angry when I hear this crap. My Jake died because of my lack of information. Maui almost died because I was uninformed and didn't get reports or question the findings. It was only after the fact that I collected their records and looked at the tests myself that believe she may not have been hyper t all, was misdiagnosed treated way too aggressively and almost died as a result of my ignorance, trust and not questioning the vets.

Yes, beautiful Maui that is here today 4 years later, no thanks to the vet.

So - Pat - don't you ever let them make you feel bad, wrong or guilty for asking questions, getting copies of the reports or anything, especially the care and attention you are giving them. You should be applauded, not chastised and shame on that tech and the vet for not doing that!

Re: 9/26 Raja AMPS=158

Good job Raja. Hey, Pat, I just had Gus in for his 3 month physical...he appeared to be feeling fine and did not outwardly seem to have
anything going on. We are litter box hawks   always checking when kits go in there to see who peed/pood, how much, etc and
he was apparently normal. But blood panel and urine indicated a different story. His neutrophils and WBCs were high and his urine had
a trace of occult blood and wbcs; we didn't even do a C&S as I had caught his urine here and I don't much like cystocentesis unless we gotta.
So he's on a round of baytril...never would have known if I hadn't taken him in so let's hope that's what is going on with Miss Raja!

Re: 9/26 Raja AMPS=158~+4=95

 There are quite a few vet techs that are there....I have gotten misinformation from just about all of them!
It doesn't make ME feel bad when they do/say stupid things. I learned a long time ago that one must take care of oneself!
I just think it is pretty amusing that they would say things like that to ME...they don't know who they are talking to! We must all be champions for our loved ones, no matter if they are our children or our kitties and droolers. There is too much information out there to NOT be informed, right? I ma like a dog with a bone!!
+3=95
+4=95
She is amazing! DH said he saw her munching on some leftover breffis at +3. She got a fresh snack at +4 and proceeded to lick all the liquid out of her dish and moved her face over to Shadow's dish. He turned and started waking away!! Oh, poor boy. I had to get the other dish for him and gave him more FD chicken on top. He is So polite! And SHE is such a beeatch! :YMSIGH:

Re: 9/26 Raja AMPS=158~+3=95~+4=95

Good for you Pat! So glad you keep pestering them! I cant say anymore than what's already been said...other than the fact that Latte's renal failure was due to lack of information given to me, and MY ignorance in trusting the vet 100% in what was best for MY cat. Ask away!!!!!!

Raja is lookin' good today, dont ya think? cat_pet_icon

Re: 9/26 Raja AMPS=158~+3=95~+4=95

I'm glad to see Raja is responding so well. I hope she's back at the Falls soon.

Re: 9/26 Raja AMPS=158~+3=95~+4=95

I see that Jess and Earl has replied to your post on Health. She is such a wonderful resource. I'm so glad she stopped by.

Linda...I went over to Health after you posted that and have been writing to Jess and reading her posts...she is totally AMAZING!!!! viewtopic.php?f=28&t=25952#p261272
Thank your for reminding me about posting on Health in the first place...duh...
I so wish I knew more about "things"in general.
How wonderful was THAT that she came and spent time helping me like that! What a blessing!
Hugs to you both! :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Hey Pat, It sounds like you have lots of things to discuss with your vet. Good thing you got the lab report (after all, you paid for it and it is yours). I hope that everything will work out ok with Raja and am sending "better and better every day in every way" vines. Good numbers today. Sorry I'm so late getting to your condo. Don't worry about your trip: it's only for a couple of days.
Lots of hugs to You, Raja and Shadow,
Ella & Stu

Boy, I missed a lot by being off the computer today. How dare those people talk to you like that! But I will say, they don't know who they are messing with. It was very nice you had Jess to bounce it all off of, she is a tremendious resource. Raja's numbers are great today. I hope insulin for her this time turns out to be a brief flirtation.
