Last night was too scary for me. Reminded me too much of the beginning of this journey. Harley tested negative this AM for ketones. I know it is over kill, but I have 2 bottles out and double test. He pees just long enough for me to do it. Numbers are better this AM, in the 200’s. Has anyone ever controlled kitty with a combination of Lantus and R? I would think that if they are spaced correctly (don’t really know what that would be) that control might be achieved.

Good morning....

Looks like no ketones this morning from your SS.

No suggestions from me....I didn't even know you could give 2 different insulins to help control the diabetes. I'm sure one of the "perts" will be along to help with dosing instructions....

Yellow is this morning is good. Much better than those pinks,eh?

no advice on the R and Lantus, will leave that to those who are in the know, but I'm glad to see a negative this morning.

I think it depends on what you mean by "control." If it's a matter of dealing with a big bounce, yes. Dyana does this with J.D. and she would be a good resource. The basic idea is that you don't want the R and Lantus to reach nadir at the same time -- no different than what you've been doing. However, it may also be that Harley needs more insulin, rather than trying to achieve regulation using a bolus shot of R. Jill had suggested raising Harley to 9.0u this morning.

That 1 1/2 hour nap right now was wonderful. I saw Jill's note before I entered today's post. It was after Harley's shot. I will try that tonight or maybe tomorrow AM. I hate to try a new dose at night just in case I sleep through a rapid drop. I usually can only get in 1 test at night and I don't want to miss anything. Tomorrow I will be working close to home and will be able to get back here often to see what is going on.

Nice to see the yellow for Harley and the ketone test result is encouraging! Glad you had that nap this morning!
Dyana would probably be a good source of info on the R as Sienne said...(she did switch to Levemir for J.D.)

Right now he is sitting at the 265 mark most of the afternoon (+4 265, +7 265). Should I do the 9.0u tonight. Makes me a little nervous to go up a whole unit in just 1 1/2 days

Harley has been steady in mid to upper 200's. +4 265, +7 265 (2 tbs food), +9.5 295. Do I go to the 9 units tonight or can I wait until day time when I can watch him.

if you would rather wait til tomorrow to increase, that's fine if you can use R tonight to bring the numbers down. We just don't want him to stay high when he seems to be trying to get ketones.
 
I think it was a good day for Harley. He has not peed yet but this AM he was negative. He has been acting better - more life in him. Someone over at Feline Health was able to tell me the carbs in the Tiki cat food and it was 1.1. I gave some to Harley as sn and then dinner and he ate like crazy. No pee yet, but we have not been outside yet. He loves to go there.

I have the R ready to go if he goes high. Right now he seems good. I stayed at the 8.5 for tonight.
