HI All,
Yes I do see how he will have to go back on insulin. Could he cope until after the next 2 days? I can't get the family to come around to the idea of testing and I won't be home during the day over the next 2 days. When he dropped to 21.6 the other night he looked fine until I tested, I worry if I'm not here? How do you all cope with work and appointments with a sugar cat there must be a secret?
I think the best I can do is test morning and night. DH will feed small meals during the days I'm not here. I will dose .1u Friday night (which is your Friday morning) and continue twice daily over the weekend so I can monitor him with .1u. By the time I need to be away again he hopefully will have settled back on the dose. I do see what you all mean about greens, I was hoping if he settled on the blues that would be enough. He certainly is a lot better than a few weeks ago when he was on dry and Caninsulin as the vet prescribed and showing 450+, so we have come a long way with your help. Still I had hoped......

Thanks for all being out there with help.
Cheers Joan

I'm glad you have a clear picture from your learning experience. As discussed yesterday, it was unlikely he could go w/o insulin. But, I think it's great that you wanted to try and you did. Something new learned first hand ( and not harmful to cat) is always good.

Joan, just like ECID, EBID too ( Every Bean(person) Is Different)
The best way most cope with this is knowing their cat, collecting lots of data. But Oscar went full speed to the micro doses and uncharted waters for you both.
I think this is a situation where you need to take your comfort level into consideration, as well as Oscars best interest. I think only you can decide what is best.

It does no good if you are going to shoot and worry all day . Oscar is not high. He is not in danger of DKA. He'll be fine for a couple days w/o. Will he be set back a little on your track ? a little, probably not much at all w/ the dose he is on. My Winnie was very unpredictable, so w/ my experience and looking at Oscar's drop the other day, I would feel comfortable skipping .

another option is to shoot a token dose and make sure food is always out for him.
( have you noticed in the past that he will eat on his own when low? )
Yes there are doses less than .1. I used a bolus of R insulin and worked a lot w/ micro dosing that.
There is a lot room on that fat zero line. ( do you have a good magnifying glass? )
If you feel comfortable shooting something you could shoot at the zero or even a skinny zero ( yep there's still insulin in there) and then adjust back up on Friday.

or of course, you can shoot the .1 if you feel comfortable with that ( and it doesn't sound like you are)

what do YOU think? what will make YOU feel most comfortable?

and maybe by the time you have to be away again. you can convince DH to test? show him the spreadsheet and see if you can get him interested? Bribe him? LOL one can always hope

ed--typo(s) I give up !

Thanks Cheryl,
You are such a great mentor. I will try a small drop tonight as he has gone up a little again just tested 217 so I'll see how he goes and if he drops tonight I will have to skip day doses.
Poor DH and son they will give injection but testing?? I'll try again!
At least I finally got an avatar to work so you can see who we are trying to fix!
Cheers Joan

oh my -- he is very handsome !! thanks for sharing his picture with us .

sounds like you have a good plan. and at taking another look at Oscar's ss -- that 21 was when shooting .2 so that is a little more comfort room. and looks like he did just fine on previous *1 drop* .
wondering what you are calling (how you are measuring) your 1 drop? I have seen different methods-- some more precise than others (as in counting drops) -- on that. so am curious. The important thing is that however you measure your 1 drop that you always do it same .
I look forward to seeing how he does .

as for DH and DS --- yes work on it. do they have favorite cookies ?? I'm sure you can come up w/ a good bribe. :-D

have a nice night !

Cheryl,
I have drawn up a small amount expelled it to zero and then given him what I hope is a drop - not precise at all, I know. My syringes are only whole units, but I have pre-tested to see what amount it is before giving it to him. I guess it is only a trace but hopefully enough - we'll see.
Thanks again,
Joan

as long as you measure what you call a drop the same every time that's fine.
